Gracie the Cat's Symbol in the Wind

There are many ways that our pets communicate from spirit, and back in August 2017, a very special cat named Gracie came to me in spirit to provide a sign for her mom as a comfort.

Linda wrote: I lost my cat, Gracie, to kidney disease. She was 15. As you know the pain is deep and paralyzingly. She hasn't communicated with me yet and I'm panicky about that. So I'm writing to you in hopes that it will stimulate her to contact me through you.

When I connected with Gracie, she provided some physical feelings that she experienced before she passed. She shared those with me and Linda was able to recognize the physical sensations Gracie was making me feel, with the medical conditions that Gracie had before she passed.

As if out of nowhere, Gracie provided an odd sign to me, that wouldn't make sense at first. I wrote to Linda, "She's been trying to let you know she's okay, but you haven't been picking up on the signs. She's telling me that she has recently used a leaf, blowing near your face/head as a means of conveying her playful presence. She said to watch for the signs of leaves. Do you recall a leaf blowing near you recently?"

Linda responded, "No, I have not noticed a leaf blowing near me recently. At least not yet."

Less that a month later, Gracie made that sign happen. On Sept 7, Linda sent me a photo and wrote me the following email, proving that Gracie was still with her. Here's what Linda's email said, "I had to write you!! In early August I emailed you about my cat, Gracie, who I had put to sleep the end of July because of kidney failure. I was upset because I hadn’t received any signs from her letting me know she’s okay.

At that time you told me that she had been trying to let me know she’s okay and I couldn’t pick up on it because of my grief. You said she had been using a leaf, blowing near my face/head. Well, I wasn’t going to be able to believe that because I live in the Midwest and this time of year there are leaves falling/blowing everywhere, all the time. Since then I have been asking her every night to please send me a sign so I’ll know that she’s somewhere and still loves me.

I have a managed colony of feral cats and I washed the feral's bowls today and dried them with some white terrycloth towels (which I have never EVER used before, I've ALWAYS used paper towels and immediately throw them away). I then tossed the towels on the garage step (paper towels wouldn’t have been there). The towels never touched the ground. I didn't walk on the towels. I had nothing on my hands. I closed the overhead garage door (no wind blowing in).

2 hours later I opened the door to the garage and saw this… A HEART shaped LEAF!!!! Right in my path!!!"

Gracie is still very much around Linda today.

Spirits are amazing. If Linda hadn't contacted me in August, she may not have been looking for the sign. That's why I wrote the Pets and the Afterlife series of books. Pets and the Afterlife 4: Messages from Cat Spirits is already in the works for cat parents. I'm planning on a 2023 release (but you know how book writing goes, so don't hold me to it). If You're a Cat Parent Whom Granted me an Okay to Use a Story

This weekend I received an email from a cat parent who gave me permission in 2017 to use her cat's story and reading in my next Pets and the Afterlife. She made me realize that after I suffered a tremendous loss,  I altered the plan for the Pets 3 and 4 books.  That said, if you follow me, you know that the newest Pets and the Afterlife 3 book is only about dogs. But, fear not, cats (only) will be next.

 Please know that I was going to make Pets 3 about dogs and cats, but then tragedy struck my family and 2 of my heart dogs died in 2020.  Given their communications and many other dogs and cats, there were too many stories for one book, so I opted to make one dogs and one cats. That way, cat parents would be more inclined to read a book devoted entirely to felines and relate to it better.

I have not gone back and emailed all the cat parents about the change, and I apologize.  If you're waiting for the story about your cat's messages, please know it's one of 7 books I am working.  I'm currently planning it for 2023 (I have 2 others in the works between now and then). As a dog dad, dog rescuer, and Pet medium, I thought this article was well done and covered a lot of important things, so I'm sharing it here with you. MY NOTE BEFORE CONSIDERING ADOPTING  

Please remember- A Dog or Cat is NOT and OBJECT. They are living, breathing animals with intelligence, memories and personality. They feel love, they feel hurt, they feel loneliness and they need to be loved unconditionally as they love us. 

A Dog or Cat is not something you adopt because you're home alone in a pandemic, then dump at an animal rescue.  You wouldn't do that to human children, would you? There's no difference (and it has been happening). If you're not ready to adopt for the pet's life, don't adopt. There are more responsible people that are willing to do that.

Fun Event- My Lectures at Calvert County Humane Society!

  This past Sunday, August 22, I participated in an in-person fundraising lecture series for the Humane Society of Calvert County, Maryland. Thanks to Tanya Gott, who manages the rescue (which is not government funded and rescues "death row dogs," so  they need your donations). As part of my quest to do fundraisers for all animal rescues, I gave my lecture (in fact TWO of them, at 12pm and 3pm) based on my three best-selling books "Pets and the Afterlife: How pets communicate from spirit."  That's what today's blog is about. 

   Both sessions were well-attended, and restricted due to COVID concerns. The event was held at a local Holiday Inn in Solomons, Maryland (on a Peninsula). 

My good friend, Dr. Bill came along for the long ride (it was 90 minutes each way).

He also wrote one of the chapters about how to cope with grief,  in my latest book, "Pets and the Afterlife 3: Messages from Spirit Dogs."  That book just won an international Book award by the BookAuthority as one of the 16 Best eBooks on Grief (and interestingly enough, the other 15 were about grief from loss of people. Mine was the only one about grief from pet loss).

The events were great, and there were some good questions. Tanya provided great introductions to the rescue operations, and shared that I did a pet spirit reading for her. Both she and I got emotional at times when we were talking about our pets in spirit, but it was healing. Hopefully everyone attending got something good out of the event.  A tremendous thanks to Tanya and her helpers.

Supernatural sites in the UK Corfe Castle

The UK Daily Star Online provided a look at some haunted locations around Britain. I also had the pleasure of visiting England and you can read about my encounters with the ghosts there in my book "Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation," available on Amazon.  Here's today's haunt:  

Corfe Castle

Towering over the Dorset countryside, the ruins of Corfe Castle casts a formidable shadow over the surrounding fields.

The castle dates back to the Norman era of English history and in the 60s it gained a spooky reputation.

Park and Resorts said the most recent sighting was in 1967 “when a local man reported that he had seen a woman in white in the village of Corfe”.

She is, of course, believed to be linked to the castle itself and legend goes the woman in white is the spirit of a female who betrayed the Royalist family to the Roundheads during the English Civil War.

Haunted Trails #9 - Warm Springs Canyon Road, California

The Travel Channel covered haunted trails in the U.S. and this is the ninth installment!

Warm Springs Canyon Road, California

This extreme 16-mile hike in Death Valley National Park is not for the faint of heart, and not just because of extremely hot temperatures and abandoned homes along the route. Despite the pleasant-sounding name, Warm Springs Canyon Road leads to Barker Ranch—the former hideout of the infamous Manson Family. Charles Manson and his followers lived at the ranch for a period of time in the late ‘60s while on the run following the tragic Los Angeles murders of Sharon Tate and six others.

SECOND HAUNTED SPOT ON THE TRAIL - Manson and company was eventually captured at Barker, where he purportedly killed more people, although the bodies have never been found. A fire destroyed Barker Ranch in 2009, so now only the shell remains. Hikers who are brave enough are allowed to camp on the grounds, and some reported hearing screams, the feeling of being watched and smelling decomposing bodies.

BUFFALO, NY NEWS: Ghost Hunter Plunges 20 Feet in Paranormal Investigation Gone Wrong

As a paranormal investigator, the first rule of investigating anyplace is to get permission to enter. Abandoned places can be dangerous. There could be weak floors, asbestos, black mold, rats or crumbling walls to name a few things. In the case of this ghost investigator, they went to a place that they shouldn't have gone, and there was an accident.

Ghost hunt ends in fall through roof at Central Terminal

A ghost hunter was injured in a fall at the Central Terminal on Saturday night, July 31. 

Buffalo police said two individuals – a man and a woman – were ghost hunting without permission at the terminal when the 35-year-old Kenmore woman fell through a substation roof near the back of the property. She fell about 15 to 20 feet, police said.

Ferry-Fillmore District officers and other emergency personnel responded to a rescue call just after 10:30 p.m. The woman was transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where she was treated for multiple injuries. The man with her was not injured, police said.

Police said no charges have been filed in the incident.

The Central Terminal has drawn the attention of ghost hunters – for authorized visits – before. The "Ghost Hunters" TV series once broadcast a six-hour live program from the former train station, and the nonprofit which runs the building has hosted ghost tours.

Paranormal Question of the Day: Are Some Places likely to be more Haunted than others?

 Here's today's Paranormal question from Chris.

 Q:  I understand that running water and some characteristics will allow sprits and ghosts to manifest so not really thinking about those places,but, are some places more likely to be haunted than others? I understand haunting can take place anywhere but do ghosts tend to congregate?

A: Yes, running water provides a non-stop energy source that enables ghosts to be strong enough to communicate more often than usual.  - More commonly haunted places would be where battles or murders occurred, or where many people stayed, like hotels, hospitals or prisons. Chances are that there would be at least one person in those places that would opt to stay behind as a ghost.

Haunted Trails #7 - Norton Creek Trail, North Carolina

The Travel Channel covered haunted trails in the U.S. and this is the seventh installment!

While the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains is the most famous, and has its own share of creepy tales, the Norton Creek Trail is more notorious. Two legends are strongly associated with it: The first revolves around a settler killed by American Indians while searching for his lost daughter. On the plus side, he’s considered a benevolent spirit who helps guide lost hikers out of the woods. The other ghost isn’t so friendly. Cherokee legend warns about a witchy spirit aptly named Spearfinger, who lures children into the woods and eats their livers with her razor sharp finger. Oh, and did we mention that there’s a large number of cemeteries near Fontana Lake, which is also along Norton Creek Trail?

In the news - Entire California ghost town wiped out by the Dixie Fire

 Although not paranormal, investigators often like to visit abandoned towns in the U.S. West, known as Ghost Towns. In the news today, however, one ghost town in California was consumed by fire. Here's the story from the San Francisco Gate news.

Entire California ghost town wiped out by the Dixie Fire

San Francisco Gate News, Aug. 5, 2021

A historic Northern California ghost town in the Sierra foothills has been decimated by the giant, still-raging Dixie Fire.

The state-designated historical landmark has been abandoned now for half a century, and last week the 250,000-acre Dixie Fire left its historic buildings in ashes, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. (SFGATE and the San Francisco Chronicle are both owned by Hearst but operate independently of each other).

Among the casualties is the Kellogg House that was lived in until the 1970s. Built in 1852 with lumber from the sawmill at Rich Bar, the property sat above the roaring gold camp in the Feather River Canyon. Gone too is the mining outpost, the remaining homesteads and the historic cemetery.

While the stories told by miners of an actual lake of gold were apocryphal, the town was a hugely successful during its boom in the 1850s. As with so many California gold towns, along with the riches came the vice and criminality. The Feather River Bulletin once wrote of the riotous scene there in 1850: "Upon hearing of the new strike at Rich Bar those in the Middle Fork area packed up their shirts, trousers, pans and cups and struggled northwest across the mountains in search of a dream.

"They swarmed over the Sierra mountains by the thousands, every color and nationality, and every sort of character, from low-down, thieving, conniving scallywags; to prim, proper, upstanding citizens."

According to the local museum, the town reportedly pulled $23 million in gold out of the ground and river in its first few decades, before its inevitable decline when the gold ran dry.

Last year, new owners Ivan Coffman and Kurt Brock purchased the 1,200-square-foot Kellogg House and had plans to restore it and even mine again. The fire has left them with an unsure future, and they are still currently under evacuation orders, reports the Chronicle.

The Dixie Fire began July 13, likely due to a tree falling on PG&E power lines near the town of Paradise (which was destroyed in 2018 in the Camp Fire, also ignited by a faulty PG&E transmission line). It has burned 274,139 acres and is currently 35% contained, according to Cal Fire.

Paranormal Question of the day: What Percentage of Ghosts You Met were Troublesome?

Here's today's Paranormal question from Chris. 

Q: Of the ghosts you have encountered is there any estimate of the percentage that become troublesome relative to ghosts in a location?

A: Of the ghosts I've encountered, only a few have been troublesome and showed their bad human nature. In the Cockeysville Tavern in Maryland, one ghost was heard on a digital recorder saying plainly, "kill Rob." - I would guess less than 1 percent of all ghosts I've encountered were troublesome. .. OH, and that ghost is spending the rest of his miserable afterlife stuck in that Tavern.

Paranormal Q&A Is The IGT Team surprised when they make contact?

One of the questions I was asked is whether the Inspired Ghost Tracking (IGT) team of paranormal investigators (of which I belong) are surprised whenever we make contact with a ghost. The answer in today's blog, and you can read about many cases of IGT in my book "Case Files of Inspired Ghost Tracking." 

Here's the Q&A : 

 QUESTION:  Does the team get surprised when they make contact? 

ANSWER:  

No. Once we sense that there's someone in a place, we aren't surprised when someone connects with us. We do however, understand that some ghosts are more shy than others because ghosts maintain their personalities. So if they were shy in life, they'll be shy in death. If they were sociable in life, they'll be sociable in death. 

  The tricky part about communicating with ghosts is that we have to earn their trust in order to get them to communicate. It's the same with meeting new living people. You have to gain their trust and find things in common to converse.
