Wonderful Time Speaking at the Northeastern Maryland Kennel Club

Kennel Club logo
I had a wonderful time speaking last night at the Northeastern Maryland Kennel Club about pets and the afterlife.
Below is a note from Carol who organized the event for me. A big thanks to Carol for hosting me and inviting me to provide understanding, hope and comfort to so many who have had their precious pets pass, and hopefully they walked away with a understanding that they're all still around. What an amazing night of hugs, tears, healing and hope, and great experiences from folks.

****A Note from From Carol Agne Wiley from the Northeastern Maryland Kennel Club - On behalf of myself, and the Northeastern Maryland Kennel Club we would like to give a big THANK YOU!! to Rob Gutro.Rob spoke at our meeting
last night.  Everyone enjoyed hearing his experiences, and awakening us to things that are around us, that we just don't take the time to pay attention to.Rob's program goes by so quickly and there is never enough time to ask all the questions, that need answering. His words helped me through the loss of our precious Lexi last summer, and to be able to see and feel her presence.Thank you my friend for all that you do for us!

Guest Blog: A FEW BUT IMPORTANT TIDBITS WHEN HAVING A MEDIUMSHIP READING

This week's blog is from my friend and amazing medium, Barb Mallon. Barb published the following in her newsletter (www.barbmallon.com) recently, and I think it's really important to share with everyone. - Rob

A FEW BUT IMPORTANT TIDBITS WHEN HAVING A MEDIUMSHIP READING

Recently, I've had more people than usual not understand how a medium works, how the process works or why they don't hear what they wish to hear in a session.  I've even had clients tell me how they'd like me to read for them with no "ifs," "ands," or "buts" allowed.   I truly can't dictate a reading, nor can I conform how I work to fit someone else's expectations.  It's really always best to understand how a psychic or medium works, know what to expect in advance, and to get good references, rather than be too "on guard."  Here are a few pointers!  :)

  1. Allow the psychic or medium to work in the way THEY need to work.  Understandably, there are many charlatans out there, and you really DO need to be wary of the "generals" in a reading (and if you feel the psychic isn't connecting with you, and giving vague info, DO let them know and possibly even stop the session.)  It's always best to go into a session relaxed and open to info and messages, not to hear what you want to hear or connect to that exact person in spirit.   Let the psychic or medium do their job in the way they need to do it, leave expectations at the door and your session will more than likely flow much better.  As I told one lady this month, you don't go into the doctors' office and tell the doctor how to examine you, or a lawyer how to work on your case.  The psychic needs to conduct a reading the way they need to.

  2. Try to go to a psychic or medium who has been referred to you by someone who has had a good experience.  If you don't know of anyone who's been to a psychic, try to find a site on the internet with fair reviews on the psychic.  While testimonials are nice on a psychics website, you really don't know for sure they are legitimate, so it's a good idea not to choose a psychic because of his or her own website testimonials.

  3. Don't call or write a psychic or medium for a freebie or "test" mini reading.  Most valid mediums I know need to prepare with prayer, meditation and ritual before opening up to spirit, spirit guides or the angelic realm.  It's not fair to expect a medium to connect on the spot... we have lives too!  :)

  4. Try not to rate a psychic or medium with "hits" or "misses."  There will ALWAYS be information not understood during a session that a psychic will "leave you" with.  These are not necessarily "misses," and are usually understood at a later time.  There will always be validations that occur AFTER the session is over when the unknowns in a reading are discovered!

  5. During a session, if a psychic or medium tells you things about yourself, it's a good thing!  I've had people tell me, "yes, I know this about myself... so?"  Well, I DON'T!  This means the psychic is connecting with your energy and if that's the case, should be able to link with your people in spirit as well, if that's what you're looking for.  We know YOU know things about yourself, but a psychic doesn't know anything about you, so this is a good indication that a link has been established between you and the psychic.

  6. For medium sessions where a psychic links to your people in spirit, it's important to allow the process to unfold in the way spirit would like it to.  Allow them to bring through ANY pieces of info, even if it seems "trivial" or "insignificant" to you.  Example:  Me:  (laughing...) "wow, he tells me he always late, correct?"  Client: (shrugging shoulders...) "yes, he was always late, so????"   Again, YOU may know this about your spirit person, but the medium doesn't, and this is very important.  The spirit person will give the medium anything - seemingly insignificant things, or very significant things - to prove to you it's them!   They are all little puzzle pieces of information about themselves that you'll put together to understand and identify a spirit person.

  7. On that same note, don't feel a medium hasn't connected with your spirit person just because that ONE thing you asked them to bring through in your reading didn't come through.  I can tell someone 50 things about their spirit person with "yes" to all of them, but because that one item didn't come through, the client will disqualify the fact that it was the spirit person they thought it was.  This is so unfair to spirit and the process as they work VERY hard to get as much to you about themselves as possible, and then any messages THEY feel they'd like to give you.  If you don't hear that one particular thing, it's ok.  DO remember to collect all they DID give to you, know they did the best they could and thank them.

  8. Spirit people will also tell you what YOU did today, last week, yesterday, etc.  Why?  To show they DO visit often and are aware of your life!  Again, these can be just silly little things such as you ordering pizza or dropping a bowl on the ground.  The medium doesn't know you did this, but your spirit people do!

  9. Understand that a medium is given information quickly, symbolically and that their guides use what the medium has stored in their brain for references/evidence to give to you.  Don't try to make it fit or hang on the exact thing you're waiting for.  Example:  "I'm seeing the time when I closed the door on my cats tail. Your dad is bringing my experience up because you must have had the same kind of experience.  Does this make sense?"   Normally, it either very closely makes sense for the spirit person or you, and they'll bring this up to give you another puzzle piece.  If you had a similar experience and understand what they are TRYING to relay, it's best to acknowledge it.

  10. It's ok to say "no, that doesn't make sense for him/her."  You won't hurt the mediums feelings!  The medium can and should ask for clarification if something doesn't make sense to you.  Normally, it means that two energies may be blending, and that another spirit person is trying to come through.  Remember too, that some info isn't validated until later.

All in all?  Being an open skeptic is best.  Don't reach for everything and make it fit, and don't be so insistent that only certain people or info should come through.  Understand that it is a process, and for me, it's much like playing charades when I can barely see, feel or hear them.  The connection may be very strong or somewhat light depending on many variables, and we do the best we can to snag that evidential info from them and pass it along to you.  So, just try to let the medium do their work and the spirit people or guides do their work as well.  This will allow the session to unfold in the way it was meant to!

A Walk Through the Haunted Whaley House

My friend Anne Marie recently went to the Whaley House Museum in San Diego and caught an orb (the most  simple form a ghost can take) in one of her photos looking down the main stairway.

The orb is at the bottom of the stairway
Whaleyhouse.org said the earliest documented ghost at the Whaley House is "Yankee Jim." James (aka Santiago) Robinson was convicted of attempted grand larceny in San Diego in 1852, and hanged on a gallows off the back of a wagon on the site where the house now stands. Heavy footsteps were heard moving about the house. Whaley described them as sounding as though they were made by the boots of a large man.

Then there's the ghost of Mr. Whaley: Many visitors to the house have reported encountering Thomas Whaley himself. .

- The website says: The specter of Anna Whaley has also been reported, usually in the downstairs rooms or in the garden. In 1964, Mrs. Whaley's floating, drifting spirit appeared to [television personality Regis] Philbin.Other visitors have described seeing or sensing the presence of a woman in the courtroom.  The site also says there's a ghost of a young girl and a spotted dog. There's a LOT going on in there!!!

Yankee Jim's Grave
Anne Marie said:    Violet committed suicide in the “privy” (a.k.a. outhouse) after her husband, whose intent was to marry her and then run away with the money she’d inherit, left her. He bailed on her and never got the money. She’d been prone to depression, and of course at that time, with no true understanding of depression, and then this having happened to her, and she was in her early 20’s (when a lot of mental illness decides to emerge), she took her father’s gone, went out into the “privy” and shot herself. So tragic!

I stood over Yankee Jim’s grave and asked him to show himself to me there. He didn't.  I don’t think he was the orb in the house. The archway that you see in the salon is the spot where he was hanged. The thing about Yankee Jim was that he was 6’3” or so, and the gallows were not set up for such a tall man, so when the bottom was released to hang him, his neck never broke, and he hung there for about 40 minutes or so, strangling to death.

My gut instinct tells me that the orbs were women of the house. Possibly Violet, Anna, or someone else. The feeling I get when I look at these are not one of fear or happiness or really anything. They’re just kind of there. Not good, not bad… just there. Like maybe a mother and 2 daughters??? Not sure.

The courtroom gave me some pretty significant feelings. The feeling within the courtroom was not a happy feeling. It’s hard to describe – it was like a feeling of severity and harshness. Justice may have been carried out, but not always, and I don’t think people’s outcomes there were necessarily fair. The feeling was “stern” if that makes any sense.

Honor a Spirit with a Living Tribute!

Luna's memorial
This is a wonderful way to honor someone who passed- create a special place in their honor and / or mark it with a  plant that will grow, bloom and provide beauty to the world that reminds you of them. My friend Carla Kis-Major in Australia did this in memory of her beloved dog, Luna who passed. This is a great lesson from Carla, who knows that Luna's spirit is still with her and visits from time to time. Do something positive to honor the spirits of the loved ones you lost as Carla has done.
One thing that I like to do for people who have lost either people or pets is to donate to an animal rescue in the name of the spirit. That way, they "live on" and their name helps save the lives of dogs, cats, horses, etc.

What is an "Old Soul"?

What is an old soul?    Sometimes you'll get a sense when you meet a young person, or adopt a pet that they're wise beyond their years. That's because they're likely an "old soul." An old soul is someone who has lived before and has come back (reincarnated). We all come back.
Sometimes, though, you can tell by looking in someone's eyes that they have lived before and are an "old soul."
Such was the case with my first dog, Buzz Wyatt, who passed away in a tragic accident on Feb. 22, 2005 when his leash opened and he was killed by a car. When he was alive I would look into his eyes and knew that he was an old soul. In fact, many people told me that whenever they met him. People would tell me Buzz lived before and came here for a short time to help teach me about unconditional love. I totally agree. He was incredibly wise for a puppy, and I don't just mean learning things- I mean reading my emotions.
My husband's late partner was an old soul. He had had many previous existences, already learned a lot, and was only meant to be here for a very short time this go-around.  That may explain why he has been able to punch through to reach us while only being on the other side for such a short amount of time.

a book worth reading
Another way to tell if you or someone else is an old soul is if you are attracted to things in the past you have not been exposed to.  For example, my husband is an amateur historian on the Tudor period of England. He was drawn to it, and feels as if he had lived in England during that time. I have recollections of living in the 1870s and 1880s in the U.S. southwest. In fact, when I visited Tombstone, Arizona for the FIRST TIME in the early 1990s (before the movies came out about them), I oddly knew where to find certain buildings that still stand from the 1870s. There was no way I could have known about them or their locations unless I had been there before in a previous life.
There are a number of websites that list characteristics in people that can identify them as "old souls" like being non materialistic, you see the bigger picture, you are thankful, you're spiritual not religious (we grow from religions and become spiritual), you're a bit of a loner. Those are just some qualities mentioned. But if you're drawn to something or somewhere in the past and you've never been there, then it's likely you've lived there before.

Songs Tell you Spirits Are With You!

One of the many ways that spirits can communicate with you are through songs. You may hear a song that they loved and / or used to sing, or a song that reminds you of them. When you hear it, you need to know that that particular person or pet's spirit is with you (yes, songs remind people of pets).
On March 23, while I was at work, I was listening to a radio station over the internet, and Ray Price's song "For the Good Times" came on. As a child, I remember my mother singing that song out loud when she was in the kitchen making dinners. She loved that song. As the song played I realized that my mom's spirit was with me and it made me smile to know she was visiting (my dad came in, too, but as he did in life, he stood quietly in the background).
So, the next time you hear a song and it makes you think of a loved one that passed, acknowledge that they are there with you. It's not a coincidence. They want to let you  know that they're around.
As a tribute to my mom, I'm posting the You Tube link to Ray Price singing that song mom loved to sing. Hope you enjoy it, and listen closely for musical signs from YOUR loved ones! - Rob

A Random Review on Amazon I Like

It's really encouraging that so many people write me every week and ask questions, allow me to help in some way, or

The loss of a pet is like to loss of a child to pet owners. The love we share with our pets never dies, and in a new book called "Pets and the Afterlife" by Rob Gutro, the author provides proof that our pets do communicate with us from the other side.
"I wrote this book to bring comfort to people who lost a pet and explain how our dogs and cats give us messages from the other side," Gutro said. "I'm a dog dad who lost two of my own beloved dogs and both have communicated with me, just as your pets are trying to get messages to you."
Rob Gutro is a dog owner, dog rescue volunteer, medium/paranormal investigator for Inspired Ghost Tracking of Md. and scientist. In Rob's third book, "Pets and the Afterlife," readers will learn how dogs, cats, horses and some birds have the intelligence and ability to send signs to the living after they pass. They will take comfort in knowing our pets are around us from time to time in spirit and recognize the signs they give us.
In addition, readers will learn about the different levels of intelligence that a pet develops and how they are used to communicate signs to the living after the pet passes away. Rob shares scientific studies that prove our pets emotions and personalities. Read the science behind why living pets can sense entities. The author even takes the readers on a paranormal investigation where one of his dogs helps solve a mysterious canine mystery. Learn how our pets in spirit wait for us when it’s our time, what a pet’s ashes can do, the difference between ghosts and spirits and the science behind the energy they use to communicate with us.
"The book also features my dog Buzz who was killed in an accident as a puppy, and became the world's greatest canine communicator in the afterlife," Gutro said. Rob's childhood dogs recently also made an appearance as his mother passed away.
Three of the chapters are written by well-known mediums whose own dogs returned and communicated with them to assure them they were at peace. The book features medium Barb Mallon, Ruthie Larkin the Beantown Medium and Troy Cline. You'll read how Rob's dog Sprite passed and came to all three of these mediums with similar messages and how he revealed his presence to many people in the form of butterfly.
Read an amazing story of how a ghost dog rescued a young girl who grew up to work for dog rescues, and how Rob encountered a tiny ghostly dog in a famous museum in England.

Fascinating Book, Amazing Clairvoyant: "My Passport Says Clairvoyant"

Our friend Ruthie Larkin, known as the "Beantown Medium" in the Boston area recommended that we read a book about the life of a clairvoyant from Holland named M. B. Dykshoorn called "My Passport Says Clairvoyant."
The book was amazing.   Mr. Dykshoorn had an amazing ability to see things beyond the visible. The book explains how he struggled with his gift as a child - as people didn't believe him, questioned him, and he was even thought a troublemaker because he could "see" things that happened elsewhere in people's lives. Children today with this gift or a gift of mediumship are also often mistreated or reprimanded when they're simply telling the truth in what they see, hear and feel beyond the realm of the physical. People can learn from this and acknowledge their children's gifts.
Mr. Dykshoorn worked with police in Europe and America to find missing persons, re-enact murder cases (where he could see what happened to victims from their perspective - including the layout of the rooms they were in when murdered) , and tell people about how their life would turn out. Mr. Dykshoorn became famous throughout Europe in the late 1940s and 1950s. He and his wife moved to Australia and finally to the U.S. In fact, he was so amazing that he was awarded a police badge in Raleigh, N.C. for helping solve murders. (Holland actually stamped his passport "Clairvoyant," - thus the name of the book).
What's fascinating is that in the Netherlands, being a psychic was believed and welcomed. Once he moved to Australia and the U.S., people doubted him. However, he persevered and showed them his amazing talent.
He was a psychic and clairvoyant (That's different from what Rob does- talking with dead people and pets).  He actually cured people of diseases by taking on the symptoms and purging them from himself (I think it has to do with   energy transference).
He and his wife passed in October 2011 in a fire. Although her father’s gift remained intact until his death, their daughter Helga Dykshoorn said he had difficulty making predictions about those closest to him. For this reason, she said that he could not have foreseen the fire that ravaged his apartment.
An article in the NY Times in October, 2011, contained some stories from people Mr. Dykshoorn had met. Here's a paragraph from the article: He had even performed medical miracles, guests were told. One man spoke of the creaky knee that Mr. Dykshoorn had remedied. Then there was the woman with the brain tumor, given 10 years to live, she said, but still plodding along 35 years later. After a visit with Mr. Dykshoorn, she recalled, she returned to her doctors, who were perplexed to learn that the tumor had virtually disappeared.

The book "My Passport Says Clairvoyant" and was published in 1974 by Hawthorn Books Inc./New York and authored by Russell H. Felton.  This book is well worth the effort to track down!
