Part 7: Haunted Devon, UK: Crazywell Pool has mystic powers

My latest book is called "Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation" (by Rob Gutro) and conveys
all of the ghosts I met as I traveled throughout England. There are a LOT more ghosts in England that I  did not (yet) meet, and here is the Seventh  of several postings from Devonlive in Devon, U.K about some of them.. - Rob

Crazywell Pool has mystic powers at night but turns into a 'pop up lido' by day

PHOTO: Crazywell Pool, a Dartmoor beauty spot which was turned into a 'pop-up lido' for Devon's hardy wild swimmers
This pool in Dartmoor has been said to be bottomless with mystical powers. If you simply stare into the water on Midsummer’s Eve, legend claims you will see the next parishioner to die in the water. One Midsummer’s night the legend was being told in an inn and a challenge was laid to go to the pool. Two boys went, and died on their way home.

It is actually an old shallow-cast mine, which is fed by a natural spring and is now a popular spot for wild swimming. The pool is high up on the moors, so expect to be exposed to the elements, and be prepared for the water to be cold. The area enjoys uninterrupted views across the moors, making it the perfect place to get back to nature, floating in the breeze, listening to the birds.

In 2012 the Dartmoor beauty spot turned into a 'pop-up lido' for a group of Devon's hardy wild swimmers complete with an art installation consisting of a portable lifeguard's chair.
Between 50 and 70 people took part in the 'living artwork', setting up deckchairs and towels around the 'pool', swimming, picnicking and listening to their portable radios.

Tarot Tuesday: 9 of Pentacles

Every Tuesday, my friend Joy Andreasen brings us Tarot Tuesday and today it's the 9 of Pentacles.

Joy says:  I love this card! To me this card speaks of women who are empowered, successful, and capable. We know who we are and we enjoy the finer things in life. This isn't just about wealth or "stuff". It is recognizing who we are and expecting the Universe to come into alignment. Be that.

Biddy Tarot provided keywords and the card's meaning:
https://www.biddytarot.com/
KEYWORDS: Upright: Abundance, luxury, self-sufficiency, financial independence Reversed: Self-worth, over-investment in work, hustling

MEANINGS AND DESCRIPTION: The Nine of Pentacles shows a well-dressed woman standing in a beautiful garden. She wears a flowing, golden robe and a red beret, signs of her wealth and social status. The vines behind her are heavy with grapes and golden coins, representing the fruitful accomplishment of all her desires. Her right hand rests upon one of the many coins, and her fingers wrap around the purple grapes on the vine, symbolising her healthy relationship with money. She can enjoy the fruits of her labours without overdoing it. A hooded falcon sits calmly on her left hand, signifying the woman’s intellectual and spiritual self-control. Far in the background is a large house, presumably belonging to the woman herself, a further signal of her abounding wealth and financial plenty.

BIOGRAPHY: Joy Andreasen is an author, shamanic practitioner, psychic medium, spiritual consultant, Reiki Master Teacher and wedding officiant. She has been giving messages from Spirit for almost twenty years. She teaches spiritual development and shamanic classes in Winchester and Herndon Virginia which are always highly acclaimed.

Video: Ghost Inside, but This is an Outside look at Thornbury Castle

Thornbury Castle is a castle in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, England. This is short video scan of the outside of the castle. Inside, there was a ghost in the room where I stayed, and there was a ghost in the main section of the upstairs hallway. You''ll find both of those stories in my book "Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation" by Rob Gutro
Construction began in 1511 as a home for Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham. It is not a true castle (designed to serve as a fortress), but rather an early example of a Tudor country house, with minimal defensive attributes. It is now a grade I listed building.
The site was occupied by a manor house in 930. Part of the original plans for a very grand residence were "well advanced" before the duke was beheaded, in 1521, on the orders of his distant cousin Henry VIII, for alleged treason.

ABOUT "GHOSTS OF ENGLAND ON A MEDIUM'S VACATION by Rob Gutro:

What happens when a medium goes on vacation? Can a medium simply switch off their ability at will? Well…not exactly. Rob Gutro is a medium/author/paranormal investigator and a scientist who has written 4 books about his encounters with human and animal ghosts and spirits.
In this book, you will read about his experiences on two separate trips to the United Kingdom. England’s rich history and many epic battles have caused an over-abundance of residual emotional energy. Everywhere he traveled, he had a paranormal experience. He explored royal palaces and spent the night in haunted castles. He encountered the ghosts of historical figures including a queen, a prince, and a nobleman; and several ghosts even shared their pain of death experience with him. On one occasion, the doppelganger of a loved one provided directions when he became lost while driving in the countryside due to a malfunctioning GPS.
But not all of his encounters were of the human variety: there was also a very special visit from a canine ghost. This book is intended to be more than just a collection of personal ghost stories. In addition to relating my ghostly encounters, he has also included a short narrative history of the places where the experiences occurred. After all, knowing the history of a place is key to understanding why a ghost has decided to stay behind.
So, join Rob as he relates his encounters with the ghosts of England. Rob has written 4 other books about the paranormal, two about people (Ghosts and Spirits and Lessons Learned From Talking to the Dead) and 2 about pets (Pets and the Afterlife and Pets and the Afterlife 2). The books are available in paperback and e-book on Amazon.com.

all of the ghosts I met as I traveled throughout England. There are a LOT more ghosts in England that I  did not (yet) meet, and here is the Sixth of several postings from Devonlive in Devon, U.K about some of them..

Why the ghost of St Thomas à Beckett's murderer haunts Ilfracombe

Mortehoe Cemetery
Photo: Mortehoe Cemetery
Ilfracombe is said to be haunted by the ghost of one of the murderers of Thomas à Beckett, Sir Will de Tracey. He hid on Crookham Common between Mortehoe and Ilfracombe where his daughter fed him bits of food.
On his death, legend tells that he would haunt the shore forever, which already is said to be cursed and a danger to ships as five vessels were wrecked on the winter of 1852.

Tarot Tuesday: Ten of Pentacles

Every Tuesday, my friend Joy Andreasen brings us Tarot Tuesday and today it's "The Ten of Pentacles."

Joy Says: Sometimes we forget that when we make a shift in our own consciousness, we are not the only ones to benefit. Our children and grandchildren benefit every time we heal a part of ourselves. You may notice a shift today in those you love based on a personal shift in perspective.

ABOUT THE CARD: In the Ten of Pentacles card, there is an old man seated in an archway leading into a great estate. It seems he is the head of the family, for he is surrounded by younger loved ones. He wears a robe that is decorated with moon crescents and grapevines - indicating the joining of spirit and matter. He has his family and dogs with him. There is a happy couple in front of him, presumably his children and a playful child behind this couple, his grandchild. The child playfully reaches out to pet the dog.

According to BiddyTarot.com:
Upright: Wealth, financial security, family, long-term success, contribution
Reversed: The dark side of wealth, financial failure or loss

BIOGRAPHY: Joy Andreasen is an author, shamanic practitioner, psychic medium, spiritual consultant, Reiki Master Teacher and wedding officiant. She has been giving messages from Spirit for almost twenty years. She teaches spiritual development and shamanic classes in Winchester and Herndon Virginia which are always highly acclaimed.

Video: The Ghostly Gardener of Hampton Court Palace

In my book "Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation" by Rob Gutro, I have a large chapter about the ghosts I met throughout England while on 2 different vacations. In this short video, I was at Henry VIII's Hampton Court Palace, and just sensed the ghost of a gardener from hundreds of years in the past. This video shows the location of where he (it was a male ghost) was still working in the garden when I sensed him. After the video I learned more. -  (See below for more about the book - available on Amazon.com )

Spirits Can Manipulate Energy: My Mom's spirit plays with Lights

As I wrote in  my books "Ghosts and Spirits" and "Lessons Learned from talking to the Dead," Earthbound ghosts and spirits (who crossed over) are energy, and they can manipulate electricity. .
I had that experience and caught it on video when my own mother's spirit came to visit in 2015 (1 1/2 years after she passed). In fact, the dogs saw her and began barking before she started manipulating the lights.
I was working at home on 4-6-15 and sitting in the sun porch off our kitchen. At about 3:30p our three dogs began barking at what appeared to be nothing . I suddenly got a headache indicating that a spirit or ghost was in the room. Then, the lights flickered.on and off several times while the dogs kept barking (they saw my mom) and I knew it was my mother visiting in spirit. I thought enough to grab my cell phone and take a video, showing the light switch and the lights flickering.

Part 5: Haunted Devon, UK: Viking Ghosts

My latest book is called "Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation" (by Rob Gutro) and conveys

How Viking ghosts from 'the first Battle of Britain' still haunt Bloody Corner
Bloody Corner in Appledore where 1,000 died in a Viking battle
Photo: Bloody Corner in Appledore where 1,000 died in a Viking battle
Visitors to North Devon beaches claim on clear nights they can hear battle noises and shadows of fighting men, as the “bloody corner” battle haunts Appledore. Viking raids were a great threat to Devon villages during the reign of Alfred the Great.
Ancient records of Northam exist from around the 10th and 11th Century and they retell the story of a battle with “Hubba the Dane” at Bloody Corner in the late 9th Century.
Tradition says he landed at what is now Boathyde (Hyde meaning a Cove) with a fleet of more than ships and marched to attack the “Hill Fort” at Kenwith.
The legend is that they were defeated by Odun, Earl of Devon. Hubba and 1000 of his men were said to have been killed. The men were buried at Bonehill (Bunhill was the old name for a burial ground) and Hubba was buried in a Cairn, in the area now known as Hubbastone. There is a stone tablet at Bloody Corner in Northam (above), erected by Charles Chappell, which reads:
“Stop Stranger Stop,
Near this spot lies buried
King Hubba the Dane,
who was slayed in a bloody retreat,
by King Alfred the Great”
But in 2008 the best selling author of the Horrible Histories books claimed to have discovered the long-lost site of the ancient 'Battle of Cynwit' - a bloody clash which saved England from the Vikings.

Nick Arnold, author of the children's book series, says he has solved a 1,200 year mystery and located the site of one the most important conflicts in Britain.

Photo: This is where Horrible Histories author Nick Arnold thinks the battlefield near Appledore really was.
The famous battle in 878 saw the rampaging Viking armies overruning the country except for Devon and Cornwall. England's ruler, King Alfred the Great, had gone into hiding and the last of the Saxon soldiers took refuge in a fortress named Cynwit or Cynuit (corr).
The stronghold was surrounded and besieged by the 1,200 strong Viking force - but according to historical accounts the English made a final charge. In a last ditch act of defiance the remaining English stormed from the fortress and overcame their invaders - banishing them from the country forever.

The clash has been dubbed the 'first battle of Britain' but the site of the fortress became lost and all attempts to definitively identify it have failed. For 300 years historians have speculated its location.
But Nick claims they were looking in the wrong place and says he has located the remains of the fort and the battlefield at Castle Hill near Beaford.

Cat Proves He's Around Through Sign of Tropical Plants

Fudge the cat
Every week I get emails from around the world asking for a message from a pet or a person. I try to answer them all (it takes a lot of time, so be patient as I do it on my free/family time), and I never know what personal sign a spirit is going to give me. In late January, a cat was adamant about showing me tropical plants. Here's the story.

I received the following email from Karen - and I didn't know anything about her, her cat (I only knew it was a cat because she included pictures), where she lived or anything about either of them. That's what makes it hard for a medium like me to understand the meanings behind things spirit shows me. Whenever mediums share something with you, YOU have to figure out what it means- and it's always something personal to you or the spirit. It turned out to be both in this case.

This was her email to me (which she graciously allowed me to share):

Hello Rob,
I found your blog and your page and am emailing you to ask for your kind assistance. Please. I know that you are extremely busy and your time is very precious, and ask that some day when you see this, you would consider communicating with my beautiful boy Fudge, who passed on 5 October 2017. I'm absolutely devastated and struggling to cope with his tragic and sudden passing. I desperately need to hear from him I miss him so much. I just want him back irrational as that is.If you can find it in your heart to help me I will be eternally grateful.
Thank you and regards, Karen

I provided Karen with a number of signs to look for from Fudge, but one in particular struck me odd, and I didn't know what to make of it. I wrote Karen:  "He's showing me a   warm place with tropical-like plants and says he was there. - I'm unsure if you went on a vacation or into a greenhouse (he doesn't know either, because he's only sharing the image with me).. However, even Lowes and Home Depot have greenhouses with tropical plants."

I wrote the "Lowes" and "Home Depot" because I assumed Karen was located in the U.S.A., where I live. I learned in the last email she sent that she's actually from South Africa!  That's why mediums should just pass along what they see from spirit, and not try to interpret the signs.

Karen provided this confirmation about the tropical plants that totally amazed me:

He used to travel with me in my car as a little boy to visit my family, they have an atrium full of huge plants and greenery, it's very warm there. I visit regularly. Fudge loved car travel.I'm really happy that he's visiting, I miss him terribly and I will try to be calmer though it's hard most days.

I was amazed by the message of the tropical plants and the atrium! That's a great example of how a pet's spirit can provide a UNIQUE sign relevant to their lives, to help identify that they are around.
