I Really Enjoyed Inspired Ghost Trackers of Odenton

On Friday night June 11th I gave a talk and had a book signing with the Inspired Ghost Tracking Group of Odenton, Md. http://www.meetup.com/inspiredghosttracking/

(PHOTO: Troy shares his experiences)
Our friend Troy joined us and shared some of his experiences (he's also a "developing Medium."). There were about 25 people in the audience, and they were wonderful. They made me feel so at ease, and we laughed about a lot of things.
Our family/friends Jill, Kelli, Kenny and Allen also came and showed support. Thank you SO much!
When I mentioned a "dark entity" being evil and non-human, someone brought up their mother-in-law. That was a priceless moment. :) Tom and I have joined the Ghost Trackers Group and look forward to going out on field investigation with them sometime.
Here's some of the reactions from the group about the event:
Craig -I thought it was GREAT!!! I learned some things, and enjoyed the laughs. Thanks Rob ...
Linda - Being a medium myself I LOVE the energy that Rob sent out to us. I enjoyed his stories, and the little tips that her gave everyone. It was nice and refreshing to meet a medium that is NOT stuck on themselves....
Margaret - Rob was very interesting and at times funny. He kept us all laughing with him and feeling some of his pain from his stories. Great job Rob and glad I got your book to read more on your stories. The group really enjoyed him.
Ronda -I can't wait for Rob and his friends to come back...great time tonight.

A Residual Haunt in President Adams' Home

When my partner and I went to Quincy, Mass. this weekend for a book event, we toured two of the four Adams houses. The 2 we toured were the birthplaces of John Adams (2nd U.S. President) and John Quincy Adams (5th U.S. President). The houses are side-by-side and still exist pretty much as they were when built in the late 1600s (by two families that owned them before the Adams Family did).
Adams National Historical Park is managed by the U.S. National Park Service. The park consists of the homes of two American presidents and subsequent generations of their descendants from 1720 to 1927. The family's experience represented, shaped, and mirrored significant events in the social, cultural, political, and intellectual history of the nation. The purpose of the park is to preserve and protect the grounds, homes, and personal property of four generations of the Adams family and to use these resources to interpret the history they represent and to educate and inspire current and future generations.
During the tour of the older home, I didn't sense any intelligent haunts (that is, interactive ghosts), but I did feel residual energy in one room that turned out to be Abigail Adams' favorite room. It was like I could sense her energy there that this was "her favorite place."

Adventures at the Federal Hill Jazz Festival

Ghosts and vampires DID make an appearance at Baltimore's Federal Hill annual Jazz & Blues Fest Sunday, June 6. At least, I did with our friend Lynn J, whose husband Steve wrote a great parody of the book/movie "Twilight" called "Twilite: A Parody." Lynn was selling Steve's autographed books, and I was selling my book on "Ghosts and Spirits." To order "Twilite: A Parody" visit: www.twilightparody.com
We arrived at 10:10 a.m. for the 11am-7pm festival. We were armed with a table and chairs (borrowed), tent (borrowed), tablecloth, our books, bowls of candy and great signs that Lynn made for us!
Karma always plays into things and Karma didn't appear to be cooperating for the first hour. One of the other vendors took our space, so we wound up set up next to a chicken and pork BBQ tent. It smelled good, but the smoke blew on us most of the time, so we both smelled like BBQ pig. :) Nope, it wasn't a new cologne.

(PHOTO: Rob at the Federal Hill Jazz Fest)
Unfortunately, the tent we borrowed was BROKEN on one side, so it kept collapsing. In the morning a cold front was approaching so the winds kicked gusts up to 20 mph, so Lynn and I wound up holding the tent most of the first hour until we could figure out how to secure it. I did run to the truck and got bungee cords that we used to hold it together. After an hour we were able to sit down!

(PHOTO: Lynn at our book table at Federal Hill's Jazz Festival)
We talked with a number of folks, and several told me of their ghost-experiences. Some asked about the differences between ghosts and spirits. Others are also developing mediums. In the end, we learned that people don't go there to buy books, but to enjoy the great music and food, and we enjoyed each other's company.
We were happily surprised when Lynn's hubby Steve arrived at the festival. The festival was in full-swing and packed with people, good food and music. Our friend Jim from Las Vegas was in town and came by to say hello, and our friends Jim and Craig came by, too! Between their visits and spending the afternoon with Lynn, it was fun. Tom (who was sick at home with a summer cold) called me at 3pm and warned us of strong thunderstorms, so we packed up quickly and left. Four hours in the heat was enough. Besides, Lynn and I both smelled like BBQ pig!

Book Event at Federal Hill's Jazz and Blues Fest Sunday June 6

Ghosts and vampires are going to make Baltimore's Federal Hill annual Jazz & Blues Fest their favorite "haunt" on Sunday, June 6. Two Maryland authors who wrote about real-life ghosts and a vampire parody of a famous novel will be at the festival talking with humans and signing their books.
Author and developing medium Rob Gutro just published a book called "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium," about his abilities, experiences and how entities communicate with the living. Author Stephen Jenner recently published "Twilite: A Parody," a hysterical look at the characters created by Stephanie Meyers' famous novel turned-movie.

A Presence in the Barnstable Restaurant and Tavern

Before my talk at the Cape Cod Community College last weekend, my partner and I met some others for dinner at the Barnstable Restaurant and Tavern in Historic Barnstable Village, Massachusetts. It's a fantastic, beautiful restaurant with great food and excellent service. What I didn't know is that it has a ghost... at least until I got inside. As soon as I entered the main room, I got my tell-tale headache alerting me that there is an entity in the building. Then I felt a quick burning pain in my front right temple that disappeared quickly. During dinner I continued to feel the headache so I know the presence didn't leave.
I learned from Derek Bartlett, manager of Cape Cod Paranormal Society, that the Tavern is the first stop on his local haunted tour, and that the ghost of a woman haunts it. That night, she also let me know she was there.

A Residual Energy at the Historic Josiah Quincy House

(PHOTO: Front side of the Josiah Quincy House where some ghostly imprint energy resides on the lawn).
While in Quincy, Mass. this past weekend, my partner and I also stopped by the historic Josiah Quincy House (1770 and pronounced /ˈkwɪnzi/). This was the "country home" of Revolutionary War soldier Colonel Josiah Quincy I, the first in a line of six illustrious Josiah Quincys that included three Boston mayors and a president of Harvard University.
Josiah inherited the land from his father and built his mansion on a 200-acre farm called the "Lower Farm," which had been in the family since 1635. Tom immediately noticed that the house has an unusual "monitor roof," the oldest known example of this roof style to survive from the original colonies, and includes a Chinese fretwork balustrade and classical portico. The National Park Service notes that "during the American Revolution, Quincy aided General George Washington by observing the British fleet in Boston Harbor from his attic windows."

(PHOTO: Front door of the Josiah Quincy House)
The house is only open by appointment (we didn't know that) so we walked the grounds. While walking the grounds my head was filled with residual energy on one side of the house, and vivid images of Colonial men, women and children in period garb, in addition to horse-drawn carriages coming up one entrance to the home. There's a lot of residual energy even outside of that house! It's too bad we couldn't get inside it.

Book Review: Pet Ghosts by Joshua Warren

Book Review: Pet Ghosts by Joshua Warren
This book came out in 2006, but I hadn't heard of it until I did a search on the topic recently. I just finished reading it, and I was disappointed because I was expecting insight into animal intelligence, behavior and communications with those they left behind. Having lost a puppy (who communicated with me a LOT), I hoped to read signs from others. Instead, paranormal investigator Joshua Warren focuses on ghostly animals throughout history, such as from ancient and medieval texts (including the Bible) and different cultures. The book talks about Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster, hellhounds and werewolves. None of this made much sense to me because none of these things are "pets." I think the book should have been called "non-human and mythological ghosts."
If you've lost a beloved dog or cat and are looking for comfort from this book, you won't find it here, unfortunately. Warren does great research, but the title of the book is really misleading.

Thanks to all at the 2 Massachusetts Events!

(PHOTO: Rob (left) and Derek Bartlett of CAIPRS (right) before the talk on Cape Cod)
This weekend has been full of wonderful experiences and the two book talks/signing events were wonderful. On Friday, May 28, Derek Bartlett (manager of the Cape Cod and the Islands Paranormal Research Society (www.caiprs.com) hosted me at the Cape Cod Community College. I met a lot of wonderful people, some with the gift of mediumship that that are also trying to develop, others with after-death experiences, and others who have seen ghosts or spirits. Derek set me up for a Powerpoint presentation with a microphone, and I had a lot of great interaction with the audience. I'm looking forward to staying in touch with so many folks, and immediately felt a connection with Derek and his wife. My thanks also to my partner Tom (for always coming and supporting me), my mom, brother and friend Janice who came over from Nantucket Island.
On Saturday night, May 29, Jenn from the Coffee Break Cafe in Quincy enabled me to provide an intimate talk and signing with a great group and enjoy great coffee (http://www.coffeebreakcafe.net/). I also connected with Jenn and her mom, and my mom's best friend Jane came with her daughter and husband; and our friend MaryAnn also surprised us! Everyone at both events had great questions and it was a fantastic experience to meet and talk with everyone.
- My next event is THIS SUNDAY, June 6 at the Federal Hill Jazz Festival in Baltimore. I'm teaming up with my friends Steve and Lynn Jenner (who wrote an hysterical parody of "Twilight" called "Twilite: the Parody." Come out and visit! We'll be there from 11am-7pm!

Our Dogs Sense Sarah's Spirit

On the night we learned of our close friend Sarah's passing, our dogs could not get to sleep. So, I put them on our bed. Our Weimaraner kept looking at the corner of the bedroom near Tom's side of the bed and I got my tell-tale headache alerting me that a spirit was there. Meanwhile our Weim just stared and stared at the corner.
I'm sure it was Sarah letting me know she was okay. It was a peaceful presence, indicating to me that Sarah was indeed here, so I was able to relax, knowing she's at peace. Our dogs would not sleep on their beds after "seeing" or "hearing" Sarah, and had to sleep on our full-sized bed. That made for quite a crowded bed!
As I've mentioned before, dogs have heightened abilities that humans don't share. Spirits are energy, and they even communicate at a higher decibel range than humans can hear, although dogs can hear it. Think about how a digital recorder can pick up a spirit or ghost's voice even though it is unheard by people. Dogs also have different cones and rods in their eyes and a different visual physiology that although makes them less able to recognize colors (most colors appear gray except for yellows and blues), they have a better ability to sense motion (including spirits).

Amityville Horror House for Sale

Here's a house I wouldn't give you 2 cents for!
The Amityville Horror House is For Sale
For $1.15 million, the AP reports. The movie and the book were inspired by the case of Ronald "Butch" DeFeo Jr., who killed his parents, two brothers and two sisters in Long Island, N.Y.
"The Amityville Horror" was about a family that lived in the home for a short time after the DeFeos were murdered; the new occupants left because they claimed to have been terrorized by paranormal activity. Newsday quotes a real-estate agent who says the home has been restored and "nothing spooky about it."

Remembering Our Friend Sarah

Last night our close friend Sarah passed away from her battle with cancer. It's always a shock when we lose someone we love, no matter how much we understand what happens after we pass.
I wanted to post this tribute to our dear friend because she deserves to be recognized for the wonderful person she was here on Earth, and is in the next stage of life.
Our friend Sarah has been a tremendous part of our lives for the last 5 years when I Rob met her at a dog event with her husband. There was an immediate connection, and my partner and I have grown to love her and Denis so very much.
On Sunday, we went to Sarah's birthday party and she was all smiles and glowing with love, despite her deteriorating condition. Sarah never lost hope. This is a photo from Sunday of Sarah with her husband. Her smile is infectious as it has always been.

Less than 6 months ago, Sarah went to the doctor to check out a stomach ache, and learned she had stage 4 cancer, although she was asymptomatic. It was a shock, but she never gave up hope. That's Sarah. She was the kindest, most loving, happy, optimistic person who always had a smile, a hug and a kiss for us. I always looked forward to her emails every week asking for SNOW, even in July Sarah LOVED Snow. Well, this winter I "gave" her 2 blizzards and record snow in the area. She was ecstatic, and still wanted more. She made me laugh when it came to my forecasts and the weather.
Sarah had a tremendous love for dogs that started through her husband. It didn't take long for Sarah and Denis to become an advocate for pet rights- and when they lost their beloved dog Shadow to the bullet of a madman in Vermont, they pushed for pets to be recognized as companions in the state, not just "empty animals." We're behind that 110%. Anyone that has a dog understands that feeling. Our dogs ARE our children. The day Sarah passed, the Vermont Supreme Court issued a decision that acknowledged dogs are more than just replaceable. Sarah told the Vermont press "It's so important for people to really recognize the relationship between the families and their companion animals." Sarah and her husband have 5 dogs and a foster dog, so their house was always full of canine companionship and love.
Sarah was very excited for us when we went to Connecticut and got married last June. When we told her about a small local reception she immediately volunteered to bake gourmet cupcakes for all of the guests! For weeks we tried her various recipes, got boxes and other things together. The cupcakes were such a hit that there were only 2 left after the reception, and people still talk about them even a year later.
Sarah is a tremendous person, so full of love, life, happiness, optimism and someone who has deeply touched our hearts. We miss her so much, but we know that she's now at peace with her loving dog Shadow.

Thank you for coming to Karmafest!

My thanks to all who came out to "Karmafest" north of Baltimore on Sunday, May 23. I learned about it from a nice woman named Maggie that stopped by the Annapolis book event on Sunday, May 16. After I contacted Patty (the person managing the event), she invited me to partake in the author area. Here are some photos from Karmafest.

GOOD AND BAD KARMA - The day was mixed with good and bad "Karma." I tried going into a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot enroute to Karmafest and there were no spaces and a very impatient (and huge) man pulled into the parking lot behind me beeping his horn. I guess I stood between him and his dozen donuts, so I backed around his van and left without coffee. I did find another Dunkin' and got my coffee. So, good Karma won out! :)
I met a lot of really nice people at Karmafest. I'll explain stories and topics in later blogs here, as they are all interesting for discussions. One "bad karma" that I found interesting was from another author at the Karmafest. I arrived at 9:45am and was told to just sit on the corner of a stage and spread my books (and sign) out. The "stage" had a table and chairs for multiple authors but there were no others when I arrived. By 11:15am a young woman arrived and appeared outraged that only my book sign was up. I told her to sit on the stage next to me and put her books out. She stormed off.
Five minutes later someone from the festival had me pack up my books and brought me all the way to the front entrance of the festival, while the young woman sat at the table on the stage with her books. Fascinating. 45 minutes later when I looked at the stage she and her books were gone. I thought "having bad karma at karmafest likely doesn't make for success." The lesson I noticed was "always be kind to each other, and learn to bend." I felt badly for the other author who didn't experience the welcome I received from festival goers.
Overall, the event was fun, and wonderful, and the attendees really understood about ghosts and spirits. My thanks to Patty and the staff of Karmafest!

2nd Book Event / A Friend Confirms 2 Spirits

BOOK SIGNING EVENT - Sunday May 16 was the day of my 2nd Book signing in Annapolis. The downtown Hard Bean Coffee and Cafe hosted me for a book signing and meet and greet event from 1-4:30pm today. It was awesome. I was positioned just outside of the store's front doors at a table on a busy sidewalk. There were a lot of people that stopped by to say hello and many of them had the ability to sense spirits and ghosts. Like myself, they were also trying to enhance and refine their abilities. I had lots of wonderful conversations with people from all walks of life.
WHO IS PATRICK? - The night before the book signing the spirit of a young man (likely in his 20s or early 30s) came to me and showed me a white and pink rose (with dark trim on the flower petal edges). This means that whomever he wanted to communicate with could have met me at the book signing (or someone reading this blog). I forgot to ask the first couple of people, but others I asked didn't know of a Patrick that passed. Patrick's message was "stop grieving for me and start living your life. I'm okay on the other side." The flowers represented a birthday or anniversary. Because of the pink, I'm certain that the message is intended for a woman. I'm waiting to hear who Patrick belongs to.

A DOUBLE EXPERIENCE CONFIRMS SPIRITS - Our friend Troy also has the ability to sense ghosts and spirits, and he can also sense someone's energy. Troy joined us and he sat with me for the last hour or two of the event and we had some odd experiences.
A YOUNGSTER'S ENERGY - A young boy (about 7 or 8) stopped by with his older sister. The boy stopped right in front of the table and said "tell me about ghosts and your book." I found it odd and he stood stock still listening. I explained what's in the book and asked if he had ever seen a ghost. He said no. However, he was visibly shaking (his sister said he was cold), but that energy hit me and the muscles in my sides started shaking. Troy looked at me and I knew he was also reading it. When I mentioned an "orb" his sister asked what it was. The little boy stated "it's a ball of spiritual energy." (It is!). He then asked if I could sign a promotional post card to him, which I did. He thanked me and left with his sister. After talking with Troy, we confirmed that the little boy was much more in tune with the energy of spirits and ghosts than he was admitting. He radiated light and emotional energy and both Troy and I confirmed it.

THE MYSTERIOUS TALL MAN - Another visitor that struck Troy and I was a tall, thin, older gentleman in a blue shirt. He walked past me twice and the second time I could see there was a spirit attached to him, walking with him. I immediately turned and looked at Troy who confirmed that he also felt a second presence next to the tall stranger. After the book event ended and I was inside with the manager, the tall stranger came back and sat in the seat I had used, then got up and left before I returned. He definitely had an entity attached to him.

My Dad's Spirit Helps Mom Fly Home

On Sunday, May 9 my mother's two-week visit ended and I took her to the airport. This was the first time that she had to fly alone in her life (My brother flew down with her and flew back after a couple of days) and she was nervous. When you're dealing with someone who is prone to anxiety attacks, sometimes news like "you'll be flying home alone" shouldn't be shared well in advance because that person will obsess over it, so we told her at the airport that morning of her return after getting her through security (and she was okay because I got a special "Non Passenger Escort" pass that let me take her to the gate (Southwest airlines is WONDERFUL!).
While we were in the security line my mother saw a dime on the floor but couldn't pick it up. Spirits often toss pennies, dimes and quarters in front of us to let us know they're there. Mom didn't tell me about it and we went through security. On the other side, she went to the restroom and came out holding a dime! She said "this dime was just on the counter in the restroom," and she explained about the other dime she had seen. She said "I know it's your father." She was right. When she told me that I had already started getting the tell-tale headache that lets me know spirits or ghosts are around. I sensed my dad sitting right beside her with his hand on her shoulder. I told her he was there to sit with her on the flight. My dad told me to tell mom that she should return for Christmas, so I told her. She said "Like heck I will!" I heard my dad's spirit laughing and he said "That's my Norma!" He stayed with us and he showed me that he'd be sitting with her on the flight to keep her calm. She understood and was calmed and relieved!
When it came time for her to pre-board, I asked the attendant to take her to a seat and he did. Great service on Southwest! I didn't feel my dad's spirit with me and knew he had "boarded" the plane with my mother, so she was safe and sound. Once again, my dad comes through from beyond!

AMAZON HAS A NEW KINDLE E-BOOK: "GHOSTS AND SPIRITS: INSIGHTS FROM A MEDIUM"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Free-Press-Release.com) May 8, 2010 --
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Giving a new to the phrase "Ghosts in the Machine," Amazon.com's Kindle has a new E-book called "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium," by Rob Gutro.
"Ghosts and Spirits: Insight from a Medium" is also available in paperback, and is published by Virtualbookworm.com. In its first week of publication, the book rated #30 in popularity of paranormal books at Amazon.com on January 9, 2010.
"Having the book available in Kindle is very exciting," Gutro said. "Kindle is a tremendously popular way to read books, and I'm thrilled that people with the service will now have the ability to learn about ghosts and spirits through my book."
Gutro is more recognized for his work at NASA about hurricanes, but has recently published the book based on his inherited ability to communicate with Earth-bound ghosts or spirits. His abilities became evident to him when his late grandfather materialized in front of him. Since then, he lost his fear of ghosts and spirits and gained insight into the afterlife. Gutro even lived in a house that turned out to be haunted.
"The purpose of the book is to educate people about what happens after their loved ones pass," Gutro said.
To order the book on Amazon.com as a Kindle edition or paperback, go to:

Return to Belair Mansion - and Little Anna's Ghost

(PHOTO: Belair Mansion Credit: City of Bowie)
On May 5, 2010, I returned to the Belair mansion in Bowie, Md. with my mother who was visiting from out of state.
The Belair Mansion (circa 1745) is the beautiful five-part Georgian plantation house of Samuel Ogle, former Provincial Governor of Maryland. Enlarged in 1914 by the New York architectural firm of Delano and Aldrich, the Mansion was also the home of William Woodward, famous horseman in the first half of the 20th century. Restored to reflect is 250-year old legacy, the Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Several years ago I had taken a candlelight Christmas tour through the mansion and sensed the ghost of a little girl in the nursery. I later confirmed who the ghost was from the house historian and learned that little Anna Marie Ogle died at the age of two in the mansion.
This time, my mom and entered the mansion from the basement door which is now the public entrance. We were met by a docent named Catherine who welcomed us. I immediately developed a headache in the back of my head, the tell-tale sign a ghost or spirit was present. The docent then showed us a 12 minute videotape about the history of the Belair Mansion and its many former owners. Some of which include the breeders of two triple crown horse race winners.
(PHOTO: Anna Marie Ogle's nursery and bedroom where her ghost still runs around and plays)
After that, we took a self-guided tour through the two upstairs levels of the house. On the first level after passing through the dining room and moving toward the west wing (which was added in 1910) I felt Anna's ghost tugging on the right side of my shirt. I suddenly felt a cold spot on my lower right side as if a child's hand was placed above my waist and I heard her ask me to "come upstairs and play with her toys."
We went upstairs and looked through all the rooms and came to the nursery where she passed. Anna kept giving me the feeling of a dry throat and a lot of swallowing. Then, a sudden onset of feeling my body heat up and perspire came over me, as if sweating from a high fever. Anna was sharing with me how she had passed. She's still at the mansion now, enjoying running through the house and trying to get people to play with her, still unaware that she needs to cross over.
We exited the mansion and walked through the small garden far into the backyard, where we saw the small fenced family cemetery. In the cemetery sits a tombstone with a crucifix on it, labeled "Anna Marie Ogle, 1849-1851." (PHOTO: Plaque on the cemetery fence that notes of Anna Marie's short lifetime).

Spirit Guides Watching Over Us

Everyone has a spirit guide or guides. Those are spirits that watch out for us. They help guide us and keep us from harm and give us a push to make decisions that will help us in some way.
One example is my elderly mother's visit this month to stay with my partner and I. My mom lives some 400 miles away from us. Originally she came to visit for a week, but because of various circumstances my younger brother and I planned to extend her visit a week. That was about one month ago that we made those plans.
The last-minute decision to extend my mother's trip benefited both my younger brother and my mom. My brother has become her "go-to" guy (they both live in the same town) and as it turned out he needed some time to do some important things this week so he wouldn't be able to give my mom daily attention. More importantly, I learned of Boston's huge water main break this week, cutting off drinking water to a tremendous number of cities and towns in eastern Mass. That would've stranded my mother without water for a week! Instead, because we extended her stay to two weeks, she's now safe here with my partner and I, and being cared for.
I'm sure my dad had a lot to do with influencing my brother and I in extending Mom's trip to visit. Spirits guide us to do things all the time. Just be aware of it. I'm grateful for my dad's influence, even though my mom was hesitant to stay that long. Everything works out! Have faith and know that YOU are being looked after from the spirits of those who love you.

Read the book: Ghosts in the Tower of London

Being a developing medium, I love reading ghost stories, especially now because I try and figure out the hauntings. I like to determine if ghosts inhabiting places are intelligent haunts (that can interact with the living) or residual haunts (that are like a tape playing the same event over and over) that can't interact with the living.
I just read "GHOSTS OF THE TOWER OF LONDON" - by G. Abbott. It gives a very detailed look at all of the buildings of the Tower of London and all the ghosts that haunt them. There are a lot of ghosts in that complex of buildings (it's not just one tower), and some of them are pretty unsettling. Of course, the executions that went on there caused some of them. The book is a must if you're going to visit there!

Afterlife and Choosing Happiness on Earth

On Sunday morning over breakfast, Tom and I had a conversation about the different levels of places people go in the afterlife. He's currently reading a book about "Karma and the Afterlife" by a Japanese author (It was translated into English). our friend Lynn J. gave it the book to us, and it's interesting that even in Japan the afterlife is viewed the same way by professionals investigating people's experiences. The author says that there are 3 levels of the afterlife: lower, middle and higher. Similar to Hell, Heaven and Perfection.
Tom said that the book went onto say that people who are negative or morally corrupt (or just evil) go to the lowest area. They can't get to the higher areas, closer to perfection until they come back to Earth and live another life- going through life's trials and maybe getting it more "right."
I agree with the coming back to Earth in another life to do a better job of learning how to live better - showing more love and compassion for each other, being more loving, thankful and optimistic about life, no matter what you're dealt.
I'm not sure I agree with "three places" people's spirits go. I think that our spirits go to two places, either into the light or into the darkness. In the light, spirits are judged for their behaviors on Earth and their conscience places them on different "levels" in the light. As Betty Eadie mentioned in the book "Embraced by the Light," we choose to come back to Earth to try and live a better life the next go 'round. Before we come back in another life we know the challenges we're going to face, either with a physical or mental disorder, healthy yet impoverished, struggling to find love, a decade-long search for a good job (I can relate to that), even being born into a difficult family. All because we know there's a lesson we need to learn to achieve a higher level of understanding life.
That's why everyone goes through the trials in life, although many of them seem unjustified and unfair. We know friends that have illnesses that you would think would make them depressed or mad at the world, but two of them I'm thinking of are the MOST loving, wonderful, optimistic people. They radiated love. They know the secret of life.
I, myself have gone through periods in my own life where I should have been miserable - hiding who I am and being scared and unable to live the way that would make me happy. I realize that was wrong and I wasted a lot of time, but I enjoyed every day. I also came out of that time appreciating life every day. During another period, I lived off student loans while getting my degree in meteorology, eating tuna fish and ramen noodles while working 2 part-time jobs that barely paid my rent and car insurance. But I was thankful I was able to do it.
Tom and I know of people who have great jobs and houses, not having to worry about where their next meal is coming from, but are totally miserable. They're healthy for the most part, but can't find much positive about their lives. Some haven't found love, others found it and left it behind, and just dwell on what they don't have, instead of appreciating anything they DO have.
There are a lot of people who live paycheck to paycheck, who choose what bills to pay, decide on food or electricity- but somehow they remain optimistic. It's all how you look at life.
A friend told me several times that a friend of his said often "I can't be as happy as Rob. It's not natural." Well, it is natural. You can choose to be thankful for a sunrise, or a hot cup of coffee, or getting green lights on your commute, or having a dog or cat to hug, an email from a friend, or a book or TV show you liked.
Find the simple things in life that make you happy and RECOGNIZE them.
The bottom line: You can CHOOSE to be happy, or choose to be miserable. I choose and have always chosen to be happy. You can, too. It will not only improve YOUR life, but people will want to be around you much more.

Medium Barb Mallon is Amazing (and her website features my book)

MEDIUM BARB MALLON IS AMAZING! I had the pleasure to meet Medium Barb Mallon at a seminar in 2009, and have stayed in touch with her. She amazed me with her ability at the seminar, especially because she picked up a dog coming through for a member of the audience. (My puppy Buzz was killed in 2005 when his leash opened and he ran in front of a car. Buzz has since come to me many times).

Over the last year, Barb and I have learned about and befriended each other. She did a reading for my partner Tom last week and she was so amazing and spot on with everything (I'm still developing and strive to be like Barb). She even saw my puppy Buzz run by her (she didn't know about Buzz until Tom told her during the reading). If you want to communicate with someone who has passed, I strongly urge you to contact Barb!! Her website is: http://www.barbmallon.com/
As I mentioned in my book and this blog, I'm still developing and refining my abilities (although I usually get messages almost daily from spirits and ghosts), but Barb is well-learned. You should also sign up for her newsletter (which she so gracefully included a plug for my book! Thanks, Barb). BTW- My book includes mentions of Barb, from when we met at that conference.

Our Puppy Buzz's Spirit Visits

On March 17 we were taking photos of our dogs, Dolly the Weimaraner and Franklin the Dachshund. We took two photos in a row, and to our surprise, our late Weimaraner puppy Buzz (who passed February 22, 2005 when his leash opened and his was killed by a car) also wanted to get in the photo. The first photo shows an orb to Dolly's right side. That's where Buzz's spirit decided to sit for the photo. An orb is a ball of light that is spirit energy.
Note that the second photo confirms that it was not a smudge on the camera lens as it wasn't there anymore. You can also tell an orb from dust, because dust doesn't have a design of color in the middle of it.
Further down, you'll see a photo of Buzz as he was in 2004 (when he was alive). We're just glad that Buzz continues to visit!

Fun Radio Interview with New England Ghost Chronicles

Tonight I had the good fortune to be a guest on the weekly Internet radio program hosted by the New England Ghost Chronicles. I was interviewed by hosts Ron Kolek, the lead scientific investigator of the group, and Maureen Wood, the group's psychic investigator.
Ron was curious about how my career as a meteorologist/scientist works with the intuitive side as a developing Medium. I told him that I continually try and prove every message that I get, which Maureen agreed can sometimes be hard to do. Not every message makes sense immediately. Sometimes the people whom the messages are for have to think about what an object or words mean - from a spirit giving them to the medium.
We talked about how my puppy that passed, and my Dad, who also passed inspired me to write my book "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium." I shared a story about our haunted mattress and we talked about the science of energy. It was fun time, and I would love to go back on the program!

A Visit from my Aunt - First Since 1996 /Concentration

The key with mediumship is meditation and concentration, and in today's world, it's hard to find time to do those! Usually, the only time I can do them is when I'm in the shower or driving to work - and those are the times I usually get messages. Today was no different.
On my drive to work this morning I was listening to an old CD of Barbara Mandrell's greatest hits (I love older country music). The song "If loving you is wrong (I don't want to be right)" came on. That song reminded me of my aunt Tillie, because before she passed she was seeing a man who was separated from his wife and she always thought it was "wrong" but couldn't resist his charms. That man passed before my aunt did.
I suddenly received a message from my Aunt right as the song was beginning. She told me "thank you" for getting my mother's (her sister) forgiveness for the things Tillie did to my mom during Tillie's time on Earth. Back in 1996, when I lived in Kentucky, my aunt came to me as a dark figure (apparently feeling shame and guilt for those things she did when alive) and begged me to help get her sister's forgiveness. It wasn't until years later that I was able to convince my mom to give that forgiveness, and my aunt was able to cross over into the light.
My aunt let me know she's happily with my uncle Richard now, and they're happy. I loved them both very much. She showed me their old 1967 car, with black leather interior (I don't remember the make) that she and uncle Richard would drive us around in when we stayed on weekends. She and uncle Richard then started singing "Red Roses for a Blue Lady" in my head (it was a Bobby Vinton song they loved). They then reminded me of "A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation," by Marty Robbins, that they also used to sing in the car.
I asked my aunt if she was at peace, and suddenly the CD playing that Barbara Mandrell song skipped 4 times fast (that was her way of saying "yes.") The CD played fine for another 30 seconds, then I asked if she was happy on the other side, and the CD skipped again! Another "yes." I then saw some blue blouse that she showed me that she had apparently taken of my mom's when she was alive and had regrets over it. I asked her one more question (the CD was now on another song and was playing without skipping, and the CD skipped fast 4 times again, indicating a "yes!" The rest of the CD didn't skip at all, so it's obvious she was manipulating the CD player to answer me.
Whenever I received her answers, I was "forced" to smile. It was odd. But I knew it was my aunt assuring me she's fine and happy on the other side.

Ghosts and Religion

I've heard from a couple of people I know that "Christians are taught to believe that ghosts don't exist, and not to believe in mediums."
I find that all fascinating, because ghost references were scattered throughout the bible. I've looked at various websites, and the right-wing conservative interpretations of the Bible say "no." Ghosts of people who have passed don't walk the Earth. Other interpretations indicate they do. What it all comes down to is that the Bible was written by man and is not infallible, just like anything.
This is the same argument I make about pets "not going to Heaven." WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Dogs and cats most certainly DO cross over and go to the other side. Any medium will tell you that. Any person that has had a dog or cat may be able to show signs that they've come back from the other side to indicate they're okay, just like people do. I've even SEEN my puppy that was killed standing in the light (with our 2 other family dogs who passed) when my dad walked into it in 2008. Any preacher that tells you dogs and cats don't go to heaven is lying and simply uninformed.
As for ghosts and spirits - they certainly do exist and there's a difference between them. My own aunt was stuck here on Earth as a ghost until obtaining forgiveness, then she moved on. Spirits (who have passed into the light) come back to us in our dreams among other ways. We've proven it with mediums, we've proven it with scientific equipment.
The issue I see here is that some religions have "told" people that any supernatural entity is a demon. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Yes, there are dark entities, some that are non-human, but there are genuinely ghosts and spirits that come back to communicate. Even the Vatican, who dismissed psychics and mediums now employs them. Think about it.
I found that people raised in evangelical and Baptist religions were particularly taught the all spirits were "demonic" (which is untrue). I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on this.

The Importance of Debunking

Just because you hear a creak in the house, or think you see something paranormal, it could be a house settling or some living thing that moved, or an object that resembles a former living being.
I received an email and this photo through facebook from someone who was going to purchase the house this photo was taken in. This is a picture of the attic, and the person thought they saw a ghostly dog in the attic and took the photo. If you look to the right side of the photograph, you can see that the spiderwebs actually form an outline that resembles a dog's face, but it is the spiderwebs!
Keep in mind that if you're looking for something paranormal your mind can trick you into thinking that you're seeing something. It's always good to try and debunk whatever you can. Those that can't be explained are likely paranormal!

A Woman's Interesting Water Stories

SPIRIT SHOWER ENCOUNTER - I recently met a young woman from South America who told me that soon after her boyfriend was killed, she often felt his presence while she was in the shower, like she was being hugged.
EDITOR'S COMMENT: Spirits (those who have passed into the light) can use different forms of energy to communicate with the living. Water, especially moving water is one of those energies. That's why you find haunted towns typically have a river or stream running nearby. One example of that is Ellicott City, Maryland, where the Patapsco River runs through it. Interestingly enough, I've received messages in the shower. My friend Kathy's mom has come to me while I was showering twice. I didn't see her, but she gave me messages (in a telepathic manner).

BOWLS OF WATER - She also told me that it is a custom to place bowls of water around a room after someone in the family passes away. EDITOR'S COMMENT: I neglected to ask her what country she was from... but if anyone has heard of this, please let me know. I asked why that was done and she didn't know. Perhaps it was so the spirit of the person could use the energy in water to cross into the light.

A Presence Attached to Hitler's Car in a Museum

EDITOR'S NOTE: The following story was shared with me, and it's a prime example of how energies can attach themselves to objects. I've run into this before with entities attached to a mattress or a piece of furniture. In this case, it's a car!
The Lyon Air Museum is located on the west side of John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California. It was founded by Major General William Lyon. In the museum you'll find authentic aircraft, rare vehicles and related memorabilia, with emphasis on World War II.
The museum has a Mercedes that used to belong to Adolph Hitler. It was likely one of his staff cars. The interior in the front of the car is the original leather interior, also the hand hold on top of the window of the car which Hitler gripped when saluting to the crowd is intact. No one is allowed inside the car but Gen. Lyon's driver stood in the car, grabbed the hand hold as to imitate Hitler's pose which is portrayed in a poster in front of the car. He claims a strange feeling overtook him that he couldn't explain. He got out of the car very quickly.

Email Question: - Logical Thinking and Spirits

I received an email from a gentleman asking about how to determine whether his parents are at peace. His background is similar to mine, a background in science- so we were "taught" to both be logical thinkers. Because our logical mind always tries to explain things and usually discards unexplainable events, and calls things "coincidences" we don't recognize signs from spirits (those who have passed into the light). For the person that doesn't have mediumistic abilities, the only way that those spirits of passed loved ones can communicate is by coming to us in our dreams.
In fact, in this case, both parents did appear in this man's dreams. One thing I've noticed in speaking with a number of people, however, is that usually within the first year or two loved ones who have died will appear in a relative's dreams. However, that tends to fade.
After thinking about it, I believe that the spirits have given the person left behind, a year or two's worth of signs that they're okay in the afterlife. After that, they hope the living relative moves on with their lives and stops grieving. It's important that we who are left behind understand these signs, and that our loved ones who pass want us to move on.
We can, however call to those who have passed, and they will hear us. More on this in a future post.

Article on Book in Prince George's County Gazette

An article came out today in the local county newspaper about the book!
(PHOTO: Leah L. Jones/The Gazette
Bowie author Rob Gutro, photographed at his home Feb. 11, wrote Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium. It was published in December.)

Bowie author details contact with afterlife in ‘Ghosts and Spirits'
by Dennis Carter | Special to The Gazette
Rob Gutro says he can't go anywhere without chatting with a ghost or spirit.
Gutro, a Bowie resident and author of "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium," said he even had contact with the afterlife during a cruise in the Eastern Caribbean Sea this month. After a spirit identified himself as "John" three times, Gutro approached the woman "John" was trying to communicate with.
The woman said she had an Uncle John, and Gutro said she thanked him for approaching her.
Gutro said that this happens a lot since he encountered his first spirit — his deceased grandfather — at 14. In 2005, Gutro began detailing his dozens of otherworldly encounters, and adds analysis and the crucial differences between spirits and ghosts in his book, which was released Dec. 30. Gutro, deputy news chief at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt and a former radio weatherman, said ghosts have not yet crossed over into the afterlife because they might have "some unfinished business" or simply don't understand what happened to them.
"Sometimes they're not aware that they're dead yet," said Gutro, 47. "When people get killed suddenly — like in car accidents, for example — it takes a while to process that you're actually dead."
In contrast, spirits have accepted their new form and entered the white light seen by many who live through near-death experiences, he said.
"They've passed on to the next stage," said Gutro, adding that there's a surefire way to know if your loved one has become a spirit: "You can dream about them."
Ghosts, Gutro writes in his book, won't play a starring role in your dreams.
Gutro said he strived to support his experiences with scientific analysis. This often helps skeptics embrace the idea of an afterlife and separates Gutro's findings from unproven superstitions passed down in folklore.
"Energy can only be transformed; it can't be destroyed," he said. "Science is much more effective in convincing people that it's a reality. ... If you have a theory and you're a good scientist, you try to prove it."
And it's not just people who contact Gutro from the great beyond. After his dog, Buzz Wyatt, died, Gutro said the animal made 13 attempts to contact his owner.
"One of the times was the sound of claws on the hardwood floor," Gutro said with a chuckle as he rattled off a string of Buzz Wyatt memories.
Gutro said his dedication to honing his sensitivity to the afterlife is a very different path than the one taken by many mediums. Seeing a ghost or spirit for the first time sometimes frightens mediums so much that they avoid further contact with the deceased.
He admits seeing his grandfather materialize before his eyes 34 years ago made him flee the house, but Gutro is determined to maintain contact with those who have passed on, both family members and strangers reaching out to their spouse, child or friend.
"This is a gift," Gutro said, "and not something to fear."
"Ghosts and Spirits" is available on Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com and Virtualbookworm.com.

More Photos from the Barnes and Noble Booksigning

Sunday, February 21 marked the day of my first book signing for the book "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium." The turnout was great, and I had a wonderful time.
My thanks to Darleen, the manager of the Barnes and Noble in Annapolis, Md. for making it happen. Photographer Robert Carter captured these great photos- Thanks, Robert! (to see more of Robert's photography visit: http://rearlcarter.zenfolio.com
Here are some more photos from the event:

(Photo: I was talking with another local author who was also participating in the event. She wrote a book about the Murder of Mozart. She was also sensitive to energies and spirits, so we had a lot to talk about).

(Photo: My friend Diane came to the book signing, and I gave her a hug- her spaniel, Tegan came to me, and her story is included in the book!)

An Anniversary

(Photo: Buzz the puppy in 2004)
We all acknowledge anniversaries in different ways, and sometimes with flowers. Today, February 22, five years ago Rob's first Weimaraner puppy Buzz-Wyatt lost his life from a reckless driver when his leash opened. It's always been a somber day, but Buzz has come back to me (Rob) about 13 different times, including audible signs a visible appearance and various other ways. I know Buzz is at peace, so I'm content with that. Besides, if that tragic event didn't happen, we wouldn't have adopted our Weimaraner Dolly, who brings so much joy to our lives today. Buzz had deep green eyes, and everyone that saw them said "that puppy had an old soul." I totally agree. He was here for many reasons, and he taught me so much in a short time. I could go on, but I won't.
As I do on this day every year, I drop a single red rose on the spot where the accident occurred to let him know I shall never forget him (he knows that anyway, as do all spirits of loved ones who have passed on). So on the way home from a doctor's appointment today, I paid a quick visit to the site, told him I love him and brought him his rose (see photo).
It's so important to know that when someone passes away, they're only gone from the physical plane. They're still around whenever we call them, talk to them out loud (although you should limit those conversations to a private place so people don't think you've got issues), or think of them. Energy (the human spirit) can never be destroyed, only converted to a different form.
Here's to you, Buzz, I will always love you, and thank you for letting me know you're still checking in from time to time.

Some Ghost stories At the Book Signing

At the book signing I met a woman and her 6 year old daughter who told me of a female presence in their home. The woman apparently died there. I had the little girl draw a pic of the woman she saw, and it was a woman in a long brown dress holding a flower basket. The mother mentioned that a Menonite family lived in the old house, and I believe that this woman was the mother of that family. The little girl said that she hid her head in her hands after seeing the woman, who then appeared to vanish through a wall. I told her that the woman probably lived there before but wouldn't harm her. I instructed the little girl's mom to tell the ghost aloud that she doesn't live there any more- that their family now lives there and there's no place for the ghost. The ghost needs to go to the light. She agreed that the ghost was nothing to be afraid of, but it was a little unnerving to see things moved (apported).
Another fellow author told me that she's had quite a number of experiences, including feeling some oppressive force. I told her that it was likely not an entity but a bad energy, likely from people who are projecting bad feelings against her. The same woman also mentioned that she's been sensitive to ghosts, and had some encounters in New Orleans. She was fascinating to sit next to while I was signing books!

First Book Signing a Success!

SUCCESSFUL FIRST BOOK SIGNING!
Wow. Today I learned what it was like to have a book signing (That's my face in the middle of the group of people). I signed books in Barnes and Noble in Annapolis, Md. from 2-4 p.m., along with 11 other local authors. My thanks to Darleen at the store for arranging it and sending out postcards and advertisements.
To my friends who came and showed support, thank you all so very, very much for coming out to the book signing today. I was totally overwhelmed. I can't thank you all enough for the support, love and friendship. Most of all, thank you for believing in me, and for helping make this such an exciting first book signing event for me. I'll always remember it!

A Ghost in Grand Turk Island's Coverely House

As I mentioned before, Tom and I took a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean in early February. I encountered several spirits on the ship that were around people, but those weren't the only entities I sensed. There was also one on Grand Turk Island.
There are 6,000 residents of Grand Turk island and the only industry is tourism (so we were told). Wild horses (that were once raised there) and sea salt mining used to be other industries.
When we were there, we noticed that it was still reeling from the devastation brought on by Hurricane Ike in 2008. We stopped at St. Mary's church and looked inside. It was obviously rebuilt and one of the nicest buildings on the island. We also had a tour in the National Museum, where we learned about the 3rd largest coral reef in the world that surrounds the Turks and Caicos island chain.

We then stopped at what appeared to the the main street of the island, and saw various bed and breakfasts. One old ruined house had a plaque on the wall surrounding it, that said it's haunted by a one-armed ghost. It was the house of Alfred and Millicent Coverely, built in the 1830s and moved across the street (it was originally on the beach and would've been washed out to sea from hurricanes).
(PHOTOS: The haunted house on Grand Turk and Rob next to the plaque outside the house)

The plaque says, "Legend has it that an American couple who lived there following the Coverelys were greatly disturbed at night by the sound of footsteps dashing up an down the staircase, and they saw a small, plump white man with one arm. The former owner, Alfred Coverley perfectly fit that description, as he only had one arm!
Ironically, I got my tell-tale headache when we walked by the side of the house, so that was my confirmation that there is, indeed a ghost in the house. We stopped and took a picture of me next to the plaque.

Question about Diff. Btwn Ghosts and Spirits

QUESTION RECEIVED: WOW. Pls. tell me what is the difference between a spirit and a ghost. I think I know but I want to be sure. my guess is my mom is a spirit now.

MY RESPONSE: Ghosts are Earth-bound entities that choose to stay behind for several reasons. They feed off of negative energy (fear, anxiety, pessimism) and can manifest themselves in the presence of those emotions. They typically either have unfinished business, died suddenly and didn't go into the light so they're stuck here; or need forgiveness from someone they've hurt in life.
Spirits are souls that have passed into the light. If you can dream of someone that means they've passed into the light. You can't dream of someone stuck on Earth. They are at peace, while ghosts are not.

A Mom's Spirit Comes to me on Vacation

The third spirit encountered while on a cruise ship last week was a very emotional one. Tom and I watched a "mind games" show on the cruise, and afterward our new friends that we call "A2" because their names both begin with A, introduced us to the mentalist and his partner. The mentalist, Bob Lawson, was amazing. When he joined us at our table, he offered to do a handwriting analysis for us, and it was pretty spot on.
When his partner came over, I sensed a lot of emotion. We all started talking about ghosts and spirits, and then the conversation topic changed. While I was sitting next to his partner, I got a couple of names, that sounded like "Adelaide" but I couldn't be sure. It was the spirit of a woman trying to communicate with me, that I knew. She showed me a cat, a color like "green," (I'm color blind, so what I see as green may be blue) a white "house" or building, and poured me full of so much love and emotion for Bob's partner that I was physically shaking. I couldn't stop either.
Bob's partner told me that he had a very strong bond with his mother who passed, but her name was Margaret. (Hmmm... so perhaps Margaret was trying to tell me about someone else in the family who had previously passed, and that she was with? I don't know). Regardless, Bob and his partner told us that when she passed, she refused to be waked in a church. Instead she wanted to be waked in a white house- a funeral home, and she was. Apparently, she was very happy that they honored her wishes.
The cat belonged to the woman's daughter (Bob's partner's sister). It was a cat she got before her mother passed. I assume that the mother loved the cat, too.

The final point was about the "color" that she showed me. Turned out to be more "aqua" or blue-green, and it was about a pen at the funeral home that mysteriously appeared. Bob said that when he and his partner went to the funeral home for his mother's services, there was no pen to sign the guest book. When they went looking for one and came back minutes later there was a pen in the holder. The pen wrote in aqua colored ink, unlike the black ink used on all the other entries in the book. They said that no one else came behind them, so they didn't know where the pen came from. They thought it very strange that the pen appeared from nowhere.
The spirit of Bob's partner's mom was there to convey that she's around him, watching over him all the time, and was so full of love that it made me shake.

Spirit Encounters on Vacation

Last week I took a cruise in the Eastern Caribbean (and perfectly timed it to avoid record snowfall in the Mid-Atlantic). We've been saving for a year for this cruise, and it was on a ship that was only two years old, so I was pretty sure there wouldn't be any ghosts on it. There weren't any ghosts, but there were spirits that tapped into me to give messages.
SPIRIT IN THE THEATER - During one of the evening song and dance shows, a gentleman came to me and gave me his first and last name and told me that he needed to tell Marjorie in the audience that he was around her, and he was safe. Of course, sitting in a crowded theater as one of the audience made it impossible for me to identify who Marjorie was, so I regretfully couldn't pass along the message. I assume that it was likely the spirit of a husband who was married to a woman in the audience. Most of the people on the ship averaged in age between 60-80, which is fine by me, because they all went to bed by 10pm as I do!

SPIRIT IN THE OPEN CAFETERIA - A second spirit came to me while Tom and I were having lunch one day. A man called to me several times. In fact, each time a woman walked by our table (which was about 3 times as she kept getting up to get food and drink from the buffet) a man said "my name is John." He told me he was connected to that woman. He then showed me ivy, like the vine that grows up the sides of buildings, and I heard "Ivy league school." He said that the woman has a book of his that she inherited, that has a dark cover, and to look where the bookmark was in it. After finishing lunch, Tom convinced me to walk over and talk with her about it. I did. It turns out that John was her late uncle. He used to go by "Jack" and he was an attorney that graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. An "Ivy league" school. She wasn't sure about the book, but made a note of it. The following day, the woman stopped me and told me that her uncle Jack was gay, but never came out of the closet (she apparently felt comfortable telling me that after seeing me with my partner). She said she thought that's why he felt comfortable coming through me to give her the message. I agree.
I'll put the next spirit encounter on a later blog this week.

A friend's childhood story about a Ghostly communication

The following is an email I received (reprinted with permission) about a friend's encounter with an intelligent haunt (ghost) when she was a child. Fascinating story, and I appreciate her sharing it:
S wrote: This was when I was young, about 7 or 8 or so. Every Christmas my parents would take my sister and I to visit my paternal grandmother's family. They lived in a rather large house, very old. According to my great aunt it had been in their family since the Civil War. I didn't really like visiting that part of my family since they were very distant and I didn't really know them. So I used to go to one of the sparsely used parts of the house to read a book alone.
One Christmas while I was reading in one of the older rooms, a nice lady came in and sat down with me. The room was poorly lit (maybe the cause of my bad eyesight lol) so I never saw her clearly. All I could see was that she wore an old fashioned dress and her hair was dark colored. When she sat next to me I became very cold. She said that I should put on my jacket, which appeared right next to me when I know it wasn't there before.
We talked for a long time. She was nice, very friendly and I got the sense that she was lonely like me. I told her about my best friend, J., and she remarked that he was a part of my soul, and me him. She said that we should never let our friendship die. We had to stop when my mother called for me. I asked her name, which she said was "Maggie." I said that I was glad to have met here and that I was glad I had found a new friend. She looked very happy, and I think there were tears in her eyes.

I never saw her again after that. When I questioned my relatives, they said that there was no one called Maggie in the house. J. says that this was the first sign of my psychic abilities. We both agree with Maggie's assessment of our relationship. Still holding true to this day!
MY COMMENTS: Very interesting story, and totally understandable.
I absolutely believe that you saw a ghost in the house- a former resident. Obviously it was an "intelligent haunt" as the ghost was able to communicate with you and sense things about you and J.
I'm not sure if you have a way to research the past owners of the house, but I wouldn't be surprised if you learn of a woman named Margaret or Maggie, that lived there. - It may be in records in city hall. Let me know if you pursue that!
As children we have the ability to have open minds. As I mentioned in my book, open minds are necessary to see and sense ghosts and spirits. As we grow older, we learn to be logical and lose the ability to be open-minded. We also tend to become more pessimistic, which also acts as a barrier to the senses. Thanks for sharing your story. I love hearing about these events.

My Dad's Spirit Assists My Mom Again

Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Happy Groundhog's Day. Well, it was happy until the little rodent saw his shadow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania today - indicating 6 more weeks of winter for the Mid-Atlantic.
Today was also significant for another reason - My dad helped my Mom again. I called my mom to check in with her, as I usually do, and she told me what happened today.
She said: I have been looking for the back plate to the replacement kitchen wall phone for a couple of months now, and today your father led me to it. What's strange is that I found it on a chair right next to the microwave oven in the downstairs kitchen. I use that microwave almost daily and I know it wasn't there before.
For some reason I asked your father to help me find that missing part of the phone today. I felt an urge to go downstairs, so I did. I happened to walk over to the microwave and was surprised to see that sitting on a chair right next to the microwave, was the missing piece of the phone! I can't believe I had not seen it over the last several months!

What happened here is an apport! My dad's spirit moved the missing phone piece to a place where my mother always goes (next to the microwave). I had a similar experience when I asked my dad to help me find something and I found myself standing in the garage. It was there I found it, too, which was odd, because it had nothing to do with the garage.
My mother also mentioned that the light in her hallway continues to flicker whenever she walks by it, and she said "I know that it's your father." It is.
