Thanks to ARLNH for a great Virtual "Pets and the Afterlife" Event Yesterday!

Yesterday, I did a virtual fundraiser for the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire (ARLNH), and talked about how pets communicate from the afterlife. My sincere thanks to Charlotte Williams who  manages the rescue, for hosting me for the third year in a row (although this one was not in person because of the pandemic).

I'm grateful to the people who joined the event. All registration fees were donated to the rescue (and the rescue is full, so they need the financial assistance).  The session ran for about 90 minutes and many of the participants had their own stories of experiences and messages from their pets in spirit. It was moving and very healing.

My thanks to everyone who participated, and for those who shared their stories. I hope the session has helped ease the grief that you're working through after the loss of your furkids. Hopefully next year, I'll be able to return in person. Meanwhile if you would like to read my "Pets and the Afterllife" 1 and 2 books, they're on Amazon.com and under $10.00 (paper) $3.99 ebook.

Haunted Dogtown, Cape Ann, Massachusetts

There are a lot of haunted places in Massachusetts, and the Patriot Ledger newspaper spotlights them
each month. Here are the hauntings of Dogtown, Cape Ann, Massachusetts.

Once a somewhat prosperous inland settlement on Cape Ann in the 1600s, with nearly 100 families and plenty of pasture, the tides of war were not kind to this village north of Gloucester. First, the Revolutionary War brought a new economic boom around fishing and other marine industries, sending people past the village and to coastal Gloucester. Then, the War of 1812 took the rest of the farmers still living there, creating a perfect place for pirates and other unsavory types to hide out away from the busier cities like Rockport.

After the war, the village’s seedy reputation stuck. At one point, it was reportedly inhabited by witches, including Thomazine “Tammy” Younger, known as the “Queen of the Witches,” who would stand in the road and intimidate travelers as they passed by.

Eventually even the unsavory residents moved elsewhere — often leaving their pets behind to turn feral, hence the name “Dogtown” — and the last buildings were demolished in 1845. Now, the area is a public trust and open to hikers — just keep an eye out for the numerous cellar holes that still dot the land, as well as the 36 boulder carvings commissioned by Roger Babson sporting such ominous phrases as, “When work stops, values decay.”

FROM THE BOOK OF DOGTOWN - According to the book Dogtown: Death and Enchantment in a New England Ghost Town it was during this time that the village acquired its name “Dogtown,” either from the plethora of dogs some of the village women used for protection or from the low-level inhabitants it attracted:
“In the 1890s, the area and its named piqued the interest of Gloucester Daily Times editor Charles E. Mann, who documented its history and interviewed ‘sweet-faced old ladies’ and ‘men with whitened locks’ to produce a slender little volume titled In the Heart of Cape Ann or the Story of Dogtown. ‘The name Dogtown,’ Mann wrote, ‘…came from the canines kept by the so-called ‘widows’ of the place, when the evil days came that saw their natural protectors either in their graves or buried beneath the ocean.’ But other than this explanation there are no stories about dogs in this place. What changed the Commons Settlement to Dogtown was the people: women who dressed like men, men who did housework, alleged witches, and former slaves, who lived, according to what Roger W. Babson called ‘Gypsy Ways.’”

Imagine Solving the Mystery of Your Death- This Spirit Did- in the book "Kindred Spirits" by Rob Gutro

It's uncommon for a medium really get know a spirit so well that the living person considers the spirit a best friend. But that's exactly what happened to medium and paranormal investigator Rob Gutro. Gutro, best-selling Amazon.com paranormal author, medium and paranormal investigator recently published his story "Kindred Spirits: When a Medium Befriends a Spirit."  In fact, the spirit of Ed helped solve the mystery of his own death.
TO BUY ON AMAZON: https://tinyurl.com/y9an9jo2

When Rob met his partner Tom in 2005, Ed's spirit came along for the ride. Tom knew Ed but Rob never met him since Ed died in 1996. Over the last 14 years, Ed has communicated with Rob so much, that he now considers Ed a good friend.

Now, Ed often communicates to Rob and has revealed his sense of humor, his heart, and helped solved the mystery of his passing. Ed's "Spirit Treasure Hunt" showed his family he's with them, too. Ed even sent a look-alike to rescue Rob during a vacation in England. As you read about this special spirit named Ed and his sometimes funny communications, you'll learn signs your loved ones send. This book will teach you how to be more aware of messages from your loved ones in spirit.

"Being a friend with Ed in spirit is like having a friend who lives in another state," Gutro said in describing his relationship with Ed's spirit.

Although Rob has become known as a "Pet Medium" through the success of his books "Pets and the Afterlife" and "Pets and the Afterlife 2," he also connects with human Earthbound ghosts and spirits.

He is the first in the paranormal field to make the distinction between earthbound ghosts and spirits who have crossed over. Rob has three books about his experience with human ghosts and spirits, called "Ghosts and Spirits," "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead," and "Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation," the latter of which was published last year.

Rob Gutro is a member of the Inspired Ghost Tracking Group of Maryland, and has been featured in the Washington Post and nationally syndicated radio programs like "Coast to Coast AM." Rob is a volunteer with Dachshund and Weimaraner rescues and gives fundraising lectures for animal rescues around the U.S., teaching grieving pet parents how pets communicate from the afterlife.

Archaeology: Bronze Age tradition of keeping human remains uncovered

Archaeologists have discovered that ancient peoples had other ideas for the remains of their relatives, than burying them. ...

Bronze Age tradition of keeping human remains uncovered

An "inconceivably macabre" tradition of keeping human remains as relics during the Bronze Age has been discovered by researchers.
The discovery by University of Bristol archaeologists revealed how the dead were commemorated 4,500 years ago.
In one case, a human thigh bone found in a grave near Stonehenge had been crafted into a musical instrument.
The findings were made using radiocarbon dating and X-ray scanning techniques.
Dr Thomas Booth, from the university, said: "Even in modern secular societies, human remains are seen as particularly powerful objects, and this seems to hold true for people of the Bronze Age.
"However, they treated and interacted with the dead in ways which are inconceivably macabre to us today."

In the discovery made in Wilsford, near Stonehenge, the carved and polished artefact was found with other items, including stone and bronze axes, a bone plate and a tusk.
"Although fragments of human bone were included as grave goods with the dead, they were also kept in the homes of the living, buried under floors and even placed on display," said Professor Joanna Brück.
"This suggests that Bronze Age people did not view human remains with the sense of horror or disgust that we might feel today."
Researchers said the findings revealed human remains of those within living memory were regularly kept and circulated amongst the living.
The team also used micro-computed tomography at the Natural History Museum to look at microscopic changes to the bone produced by bacteria, to learn how the body was treated while it was decomposing.

Paranormal Q&A: How realistic are the mediums on television? What percent of mediums do you think are truly contacting spirits?

Each week, I'll answer a question about the paranormal, whether a general question, or one about human or animal ghosts (Earthbound) or spirits (crossed over). Here's this week's question:

Q: How realistic are the mediums on television? What percent of mediums do you think are truly contacting spirits?

Rob and Ruth Larkin, the Beantown Medium
A: I honestly don't watch a lot of mediums or ghost investigations on TV. Producers edit the programs to a fraction of the time filmed, in order to keep the viewer interested. - I've seen Lisa Williams in person (she was on TV for a short time) and she has a genuine gift. The Long Island Medium, Teresa Caputo also has a gift, but sometimes I think she asks for some information.  I'm unsure about the others on TV.
If you're looking for an accessible, and extremely gifted medium I recommend my friends Ruthie Larkin, the Beantown Medium (www.beantownmedium.com) or Barb Mallon (www.barbmallon.com).

Dogs and Cats give Us Signs from Spirit! Read Pets and the Afterlife to find them

Are you grieving after the loss of your dog or cat?  These books can help you work through your grief by showing you how their spirits are still very much around.

The love we share with our pets never dies, and there's proof that our pets do communicate with us from the other side, just as people do who pass. I'm a scientist, medium, author and paranormal investigator who has had many experiences with ghosts and spirits, both pets and people, who have communicated messages that helped prove their identity. I've written Pets and the Afterlife and Pets and the Afterlife 2 to teach people how to recognize the signs from their pets in spirit.

Pet parents like me think about and mourn the loss of their pets often. Sometimes the grief feels inconsolable. One way to work through that grief is to understand that our pets are around us in spirit from time to time and visit us. You just need to be able to recognize those signs. In my two books I explain many of the ways that pets communicate with the living, to convey their presence.

I've received emails from people around the world who have confirmed signs from their pets and have received comfort knowing their pets are very much around in spirit from time to time.

Both are available on Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle.: https://tinyurl.com/y8l6alq4

Haunted: Providence, Rhode Island's Biltmore Hotel

The Patriot Ledger newspaper in Quincy, Massachusetts runs a "Haunted New England" column, and I wanted to share this one about Providence, Rhode Island's Biltmore Hotel. It's reputed to be haunted, and even one man who was staying in a room watched his bathroom door slam shut (there was a wall behind the door) and he captured it on video (below). The Hotel has a giant neon sign on top that says “Biltmore.” Around 2019, the hotel purchased and it's name was changed to Graduate Providence... Here's the story and the video!

Built in the early 1920’s, the hotel was financed by Johan Leisse Weisskopf, a man for whom it is impossible to find any other information except the facts that he was apparently 1. Very wealthy and 2. An open Satanist. Not passively Satanist, but open in the way that he allegedly wanted to use the hotel as a kind of recruiting device, creating hot springs in the basement and building chicken coops on the roof reportedly for a continuous supply of fresh sacrifices. Then, there were the Bacchante Girls, who worked in the Bacchante Dining Room serving as hostesses while wearing little to no clothing. In short, the opulent hotel was a testament to indulgence, and as such, attracted the kinds of characters that tend to gravitate toward such displays.

Quick - what do Satanists and the mob have in common? Turns out quite a bit and the two groups got along swimmingly when the hotel reportedly housed a speakeasy in the basement during Prohibition, bringing with them all sorts of unsavory activities. And while the animal sacrifice thing was definitely creepy, some believe that those sacrifices were actually helping to keep spirits off the property , and it was only after local authorities put a stop to them that the hotel started attracting ghosts like a white shirt attracts cat hair. In the first decade after it opened, it is reported that at least eight murders occurred in the hotel, some possibly committed by local law enforcement or local government officials. That is quite a lot of murder for only 10 years.

VIDEO: Ghost slams door at Biltmore Hotel in Providence: Jack Stevens said he stayed in room 1102 at the famously-haunted Biltmore Hotel in Providence, RI. He documented some freaky experiences
he had while staying in the room. Take a look. Has anyone else observed anything similar?
https://youtu.be/6v1GsAyEhDw

A few decades later, then-Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci helped save the hotel from demolition with historic landmark status, and a few decades after that, Cianci himself would call the hotel home while awaiting trial after his federal indictment. And a little less than a decade after that, the hotel’s new owners hung a portrait of Cianci in every room of the hotel, before very quickly deciding that was actually not a good idea.

Since then, the hotel has been named Rhode Island’s most haunted . Turns out the smallest state actually has some pretty stiff competition in that department, particularly with historic Newport. There’s plenty of reviews on TripAdvisor specifically mentioning haunted happenings, but if you prefer, you can also check out some Youtube videos of questionable quality that purportedly show some paranormal activity.

Video: A Look at the Unfinished Part of Thornbury Castle (from my Ghosts of England book adventure)

In my book  Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation  by Rob Gutro,

I stayed at Thornbury Castle and there were several ghosts there!  This is a look at the part of the castle that was never finished (although it looks like it's in ruins, it isn't because construction halted when the owner died) thanks to Henry VIII.

ABOUT THORNBURY CASTLE:  Thornbury Castle is a castle in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, England. This is short video scan of the outside of the castle. Inside, there was a ghost in the room where I stayed, and there was a ghost in the main section of the upstairs hallway. You''ll find both of those stories in my book "Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation" by Rob Gutro Construction began in 1511 as a home for Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham. It is not a true castle (designed to serve as a fortress), but rather an early example of a Tudor country house, with minimal defensive attributes. It is now a grade I listed building. The site was occupied by a manor house in 930. Part of the original plans for a very grand residence were "well advanced" before the duke was beheaded, in 1521, on the orders of his distant cousin Henry VIII, for alleged treason.

ABOUT "GHOSTS OF ENGLAND ON A MEDIUM'S VACATION by Rob Gutro:

What happens when a medium goes on vacation? Can a medium simply switch off their ability at will? Well…not exactly. Rob Gutro is a medium/author/paranormal investigator and a scientist who has written 4 books about his encounters with human and animal ghosts and spirits.
In this book, you will read about his experiences on two separate trips to the United Kingdom. England’s rich history and many epic battles have caused an over-abundance of residual emotional energy. Everywhere he traveled, he had a paranormal experience. He explored royal palaces and spent the night in haunted castles. He encountered the ghosts of historical figures including a queen, a prince, and a nobleman; and several ghosts even shared their pain of death experience with him. On one occasion, the doppelganger of a loved one provided directions when he became lost while driving in the countryside due to a malfunctioning GPS.
But not all of his encounters were of the human variety: there was also a very special visit from a canine ghost. This book is intended to be more than just a collection of personal ghost stories. In addition to relating my ghostly encounters, he has also included a short narrative history of the places where the experiences occurred. After all, knowing the history of a place is key to understanding why a ghost has decided to stay behind.
So, join Rob as he relates his encounters with the ghosts of England. Rob has written 4 other books about the paranormal, two about people (Ghosts and Spirits and Lessons Learned From Talking to the Dead) and 2 about pets (Pets and the Afterlife and Pets and the Afterlife 2). The books are available in paperback and e-book on Amazon.com.
