In Part 2 of ghostly encounters at George Washington's Mount Vernon house, you'll read 2 stories from people who shared them with me.
In 2012, I visited Mount Vernon, the estate of George Washington when he was the first President of the U.S. (click here to read my experiences).
I'm not the only one who had encounters with ghosts at the estate, and here are the others:
STORY #1: A Male Ghost
West Parlor, Mt, Vernon
I
have also been in the house on tour and when I was there and I could of
sworn I saw a figure in the corner of the living room. It was a male, I
would've guess about in his 50s, but I am not really good with guessing
ages myself, I think the man was wearing a nightgown.
At first I
thought it was all a trick of the mind, I haven't had too many
experiences like that before then, and when I went upstairs to the
bedrooms, I saw a picture, and I have learned that Washington died in
his sleep and the picture was showing him in his death bed with his
family surrounding him, and he looked exactly like I had seen.
George and Martha Washington bedchamber
STORY #2: Freezing Temperatures in George Washington's Bedroom
Julia said:
Mt. Vernon
I
went in the summer of 2015 and it was ABSOLUTELY FREEZING in President
Washington's room. There was no air conditioning in the house esp on the
second floor on the landing it was stiflingly hot with several mini
fans blowing to make it easier for the guides to do their "talk"but when
I came to Pres. Washington's room, even though there was plastic that
prevented entry into his room proper, you COULD extend your arm into the
actual room and it was FREEZING i could not help but feel he was in
that room

"Ghosts and Spirits" and Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead" by Rob Gutro
I receive a lot of emails from people who have lost pets. I try to answer them all within a week or two and give them any signs I receive. Of course, I never know whom I am writing to and usually just get the person's first name, the name and sex of the pet, and the pet's name. That's all a medium usually needs. Recently, one of the people to whom I provided a reading was connected to someone who works for the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science, and they sometimes publish a pet memorial page in their Animal care newsletter. I was honored to be asked if a story I posted recently about a message I received from a dog after he passed (and the message was confirmed) could be published in the organization newsletter. Of course I said yes! Thank you so much for "T" and CALAS for allowing the remarkable story to be shared so that more grieving pet parents can learn that their pets are still around them in spirit! - Rob
One of the ways in which pets, like people can prove who they are from the other side is to make mediums like me experience the pain they felt before they passed. Often, whenever I read an email I'm able to connect to the energy and get messages from the person or pet who passed. In the following excerpts from a recent email exchange, a dog identified the exact "pain spot" on me as I got messages. The writer was also able to identify signs from her dog (over a couple of emails). In this blog, though, I'll show you exactly how specific a dog's sign can be to prove their identity. REST OF THE BLOG AND THE CONFIRMATION:http://ghostsandspiritsinsights.blogspot.com/2017/07/chica-shares-pain-associated-with.html
About the really cool organization that shared the story:
Since 1961, CALAS/ACSAL has been serving a diverse membership of over 1,000 Technicians, veterinarians, members of animal care committees and others who care for animals in research settings across Canada. CALAS/ACSAL strives to continually elevate the standards of laboratory animal practices to enhance animal welfare and excellence in science through training, certification, and continuing education. Members are trained to strictly adhere to all applicable Canadian laws, guidelines, and policies.

In 2012, I visited Mount Vernon, the estate of George Washington when he was the first President of the U.S. (click here to read my experiences). I'm not the only one who has encounters with ghosts at the estate, however. In part 1 of 2, here's an experience I received from Mady, who says:
A bedroom inside Mt. Vernon
I visited Mount Vernon in the summer of 2015. I was in Virginia/D.C. for
the fourth. It was my first time ever visiting and it was BOILING hot. I
mean like 98 degrees outside, and dry (compared to my native South
Florida).
It's hot. I'm wearing a tank top and sweating my a$# off. The house was
built in the early 1700s/late 1600s, so it's safe to assume adding
central cooling into the house might jeopardize its structural
integrity. So, the only breeze entering any room of the house came from
open windows.
But, I kept on enthusiastically through the house since I am a FANATIC
for the founding fathers and their complex, rich histories.
Now, some of the rooms (the ones with more important artifacts, I
suppose) have a plastic half-door over the door frames so as to allow
visitors to peer into the room (sticking their heads and torsos in) and
nothing else. Pretty standard stuff.
So the tour guide's taking us through the house, telling us about the
history of the estate and the purpose of each room, and- finally- we
reach George and Martha's bedroom. I'm SUPER excited at this point. I
knew that this is the room George slept in (as well as the one where he
died), and I was DYING to see what it looked like. I vaguely noticed
that everyone else in the tour group was standing around the room,
looking at it from afar in the hallway, but I paid that no mind.
Instead, I walked right up and peered past the half door. There, I saw
his bedroom. I was in the room past my chest. I was looking around and
felt it was absolutely FREEZING in the room. It wasn't like, mildly
cold. It was like I had just stuck my face into a freezer cold.
I was confused (because NO other room was like that) and trying to find a
source for the cold (a vent or an A/C unit outside the window) but
there was none. The tour guide was talking about Martha's experience
with Washington's ghost. Before I could ask more about it, I felt all
the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
I mean like. In a way I've NEVER experienced before. And, from the
center of the room, I felt somewhere staring at me. Like, intently
staring at me. I felt their eyes move closer and closer, as if this
spirit in the center of the room was walking towards me while staring me
down. It was an intimidating presence. I knew immediately that it was
him.
At this point, I was FREAKIN
George Washington's Mt. Vernon Carriage
G out. I tried to move away, but I found I
was paralyzed (at least from the waist up). I couldn't move at all. I
struggled and tried to move or at least look away but couldn't. I tried
to open my mouth and scream, but nothing but air came out.
Finally, after what felt like at least 30 minutes (but was probably more
like 2), the eyes left me, and I was able to free myself, and I nearly
fell trying to pull myself away. The tour guide looked at me like I had
two heads and I tried to ask him if there was A/C in that room and he
told me "no, of course not."
IN PART 2 OF GHOSTS AT MOUNT VERNON (NEXT BLOG) - You'll read about another person who felt freezing temperatures in that same bedroom!

"Ghosts and Spirits" and Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead" by Rob Gutro
What is an old soul? Sometimes you'll get a sense when you meet a young person, or adopt a pet that they're wise beyond their years. That's because they're likely an "old soul." An old soul is someone who has lived before and has come back (reincarnated). We all come back. Sometimes, though, you can tell by looking in someone's eyes that they have lived before and are an "old soul." Such was the case with my first dog, Buzz Wyatt, who passed away in a tragic accident on Feb. 22, 2005 when his leash opened and he was killed by a car. When he was alive I would look into his eyes and knew that he was an old soul. In fact, many people told me that whenever they met him. People would tell me Buzz lived before and came here for a short time to help teach me about unconditional love. I totally agree. He was incredibly wise for a puppy, and I don't just mean learning things- I mean reading my emotions. My husband's late partner was an old soul. He had had many previous existences, already learned a lot, and was only meant to be here for a very short time this go-around. That may explain why he has been able to punch through to reach us while only being on the other side for such a short amount of time.
a book worth reading
Another way to tell if you or someone else is an old soul is if you are attracted to things in the past you have not been exposed to. For example, my husband is an amateur historian on the Tudor period of England. He was drawn to it, and feels as if he had lived in England during that time. I have recollections of living in the 1870s and 1880s in the U.S. southwest. In fact, when I visited Tombstone, Arizona for the FIRST TIME in the early 1990s (before the movies came out about them), I oddly knew where to find certain buildings that still stand from the 1870s. There was no way I could have known about them or their locations unless I had been there before in a previous life. There are a number of websites that list characteristics in people that can identify them as "old souls" like being non materialistic, you see the bigger picture, you are thankful, you're spiritual not religious (we grow from religions and become spiritual), you're a bit of a loner. Those are just some qualities mentioned. But if you're drawn to something or somewhere in the past and you've never been there, then it's likely you've lived there before. \\

Recently I gave a lecture about how pets communicate from the afterlife. It was well-attended and a woman who bought one of my Pets and the Afterlife books wrote me a nice letter. She didn't have any pets but she knew people who did, and who lost them. Here's the letter.
The ORIGINAL EMAIL: Hi Rob, My good friend lost her Chica yesterday after a very sudden onset neurological type (head) event. We are in shock, she had no indication that anything like this would happen, in fact had a checkup with her vet the day before. Unsure what it was, tumor/aneurism/infection etc, but hope she went peacefully and not anxiously as she had to be rushed to the vet (where she was never comfortable) for her euthanasia.
MESSAGES I RECEIVED FROM CHICA: - So sorry about your friend's dog Chica. I'm getting a pain over my right eye, and Chica tells me it's something associated with that. It very well could have been an aneurysm that seems to have caused a heaviness in her heart...like a stroke.
I just googled "aneurysm" after I wrote that and the definition says: "A brain (cerebral) aneurysm is a bulging, weak area in the wall of an artery that supplies blood to the brain. In most cases, a brain aneurysm causes no symptoms and goes unnoticed. In rare cases, the brain aneurysm ruptures, releasing blood into the skull and causing a stroke." - I believe that this is what happened to Chica. Dogs can convey how they passed, as a means to identify themselves.
There was nothing that could have been done to help her recover, so helping her cross was the right thing to do. She thanks her mom for helping her cross and pass out of discomfort (she continued to feel a strong pressure over her right eye until she crossed and now is pain free in spirit).
She's of course, standing again with Buddy, and she's giving her mom a smile.
THE CONFIRMATION: Thanks for replying Rob, you have no idea how bang on you are!
Chica had sudden swelling around her right eye that morning, and some blood coming out of her ears/nose a bit before that.
My friend will probably email you herself, she was amazed at your response and is happy to hear that Chica pain free now.
Thank you for sharing your gift to help us ease the pain of losing our best friends.

Whenever I give talks about how our loved ones in spirit communicate, one of the ways is to
influence birds, butterflies, dragonflies, etc. or some creature in nature to behave oddly around us on an important date relative to the person in spirit, or the living person. Such was Exactly the case with this mother in the U.K. who visited the grave of her son. I write about these in my books "Ghosts and Spirits" and "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead"( by Rob Gutro)
You can also watch a video the woman took of the bird's actions. See bottom of this story>>>
Bird Comforts Grieving Mother as She Visits Late Son's Grave on Anniversary of His Death
A tiny bird seemed to hear a grieving mother’s cries when it offered her comfort on the anniversary of her son’s death.
Marie Robinson, of England, posted a video on Facebook of a robin landing on top of her son Jack’s gravestone.
Read Rob Gutro's books for more signs from spirit
Moments later, Robinson held up her hand and the bird landed on her fingers.
"It brought me to tears," she wrote on Facebook. "Taking it as a sign from Jack."
Robinson also posted a photo of the same bird landing on her shoe.
She wrote on Facebook in an earlier post that Jack passed away from brain cancer when he was 4 years old, and Robinson had visited last week on the third anniversary of his death.
"[Three]
years ago today I was totally numb at losing my little Jack," she wrote
in a Facebook post shared on April 1. "And [three] years on I’m still
numb on this day. Today will be hard."
Although
she continues to grieve Jack's death, she said she hopes the video of
her encounter with the bird going viral will raise awareness for childhood cancers.

Looking to adopt a great Senior Dachshund? Gillian may be 13 years
old, but he's got a lot of life in him. Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue
has just taken in this sweet boy, as his family moved into a place that
doesn't allow dogs.
Meet Gilligan, a very active senior boy who
wants to be your snuggle buddy. Gilligan does not act his age. He
loves to go on walks, meander in the yard and play with toys. Gilligan
is a talker; he will let you know when he wants attention and a belly
rub.
GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS
He has lived with other dachshunds and is friendly to other small
dogs he meets on his walks. Gilligan is not so sure about the big dogs,
and we don’t know how he reacts to cats. He’s happy to meet new humans
and he grew up with teenagers.
HOUSEBROKEN Gilligan is housebroken, but he
does mark inside so he’s being retrained with a belly band.
HEALTHY - He's getting shots, dental, etc.
He’s heart
worm negative, up-to-date on his shots and he will soon be neutered and
receive a much needed dental cleaning. Gilligan is in great shape.
A LITTLE GUY! Just 12.5 pounds!
He’s a trim 12.5 pounds and has no trouble getting around or jumping
onto the couch to be next to you – not that we encourage that! Gilligan
isn’t crate trained and prefers to sleep on the couch at night. We are
training him to sleep in a cozy dog bed instead.
WHY HE CAME TO THE RESCUE Gilligan’s
family lost their home and could not keep him. He has many years of
love and play left to give. Gilligan would love to be your forever
companion.

my friend Joy Andreasen of Whispers of Joy: The Queen of Swords.
Today may be a day to seek council or to offer council to someone else.
Remember the power of your words and use them wisely. The Bible says the
power of life and death is in the tongue. Speak out loud what you want
to see happen in your life and expect your words to bring you what you
want. There is abundance available in every area of your life. Speak out
words of life and blessing and watch your world change.

Pets and (some) Vets don't like fireworks. So be considerate and be safe. Pets are afraid of fireworks, so
below are some safety tips and precautions you can take. (Unfortunately
if you live in a neighborhood with people who are inconsiderate, try to
generate white noise and even give your pet a Benadryl to make them
sleepy (1 tab over 30 lbs, 1/2 tab under 30 lbs).
Some Veterans who suffer from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) are
also afraid of fireworks, as the loud noises can trigger the PTSD. I heard from one veteran who said fireworks don't both him, but for others fireworks act as a trigger for PTSD, so this isn't meant to be inclusive, however, if you have a veteran living in your neighborhood and you don't know their situation or reactions, take the cautious approach and assume that fireworks do affect their PTSD. Bottom Line: If
you live in a neighborhood with a veteran, or where there are pets,
please, please be considerate and do not light off loud fireworks.
Earlier in the year during one of the public ghost investigations at the Belmont Manor in Elkridge, Maryland one of the public ghost hunters took two photos in the woods when she sensed something. The first photo showed nothing but blackness among the trees. The second photo had what appeared to be red eyes looking at her. The photos are below. What do you think? WHAT IS PAREDOLIA?Pareidolia (/pærᵻˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-DOH-lee-ə) is
a psychological phenomenon in which the mind responds to a stimulus (an
image or a sound) by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists. It's like seeing a face in a cloud.
Do you see the red eyes on the right side?
FIGURING OUT THE PHOTOS - I'm not saying the photos are paredolia, however, One of the Inspired Ghost Tracking investigators suggested that the red lights could be a car's tail lights, or some kind of beacon n the other side of the woods. There are a number of things it could be, however, the photographer claimed she heard no car, and there's really not a road near the cemetery of the Belmont Manor, because it lies in the back of the property. Further, there are also no radio towers, and usually any lights are not that close. So, it could be paranormal...

In this last blog about our Our Annapolis Haunted Encounters you'll hear about the Ghosts in Shiplap House's Windows.
THE HISTORY OF THE SHIPLAP HOUSE - The Shiplap house is a pre-Victorian house, built around 1715, and is now used for offices for "Historic Annapolis." According to Waymarking.com, "This large, separate house is at the end of Pinkney Street in the historic downtown district of Annapolis, Maryland, just blocks away from the Maryland State House and the US Naval Academy. Shiplap House served as a store and tavern in the eighteenth century. The house is named for the random-width flush siding (called shiplap) on the rear facade and the north-east ell. " OUR EXPERIENCES - As Tom and I (we are both members of Inspired Ghost Tracking) walked by the house we were both drawn to the windows in the
Ghostly face in the window?
upstairs (second floor). We didn't know that this was the site of a former tavern, but we both saw figures moving around in the upstairs windows! However, the building was closed and no one was in it. I took a couple of pictures of the windows but didn't catch anything on film. However, we knew that there were ghosts moving from window to window. GHOSTS IN THE WINDOWS! - On the top left window, I (Rob) described a woman wearing a bonnet, who would be working in the building, circa 1759 or so, when it was a tavern. Then the ghost moved back and forth past the windows on the 2nd and 3rd floors (we both sensed them running back and forth). When we got home I enlarged the windows and came across what looks like the bottom half of a face, from nose down, peering out the top, right hand dormer window (3rd floor!). I checked for reflections, and since it was a cloud-less, clear, blue sky, it was not a reflection of a cloud.
Wow. What an amazing crowd at my talk last night called "Recognizing Signs from Spirits of Loved Ones" at the Belmont Mansion, Elkridge, Maryland. Thanks to Margaret Erhlich of Inspired Ghost Tracking who manages the event with the Belmont Manor and Historic Park (where we held it), and Ronda and Greg from the IGT team there supporting it, too. Each of them shared personal stories about how their loved ones gave them signs from spirit as did so many in the audience. So many in the audience were able to relate to the different signs I talked about, and felt comforted. Even a turkey I mentioned was a personal sign to someone!
It was a very moving and uplifting event for me, the rest of the IGT team and the audience. I hope that they tell others, so that more people can find peace knowing their loved ones are around them. A fascinating study-
The mystery of death is not to be told. It is something to be
experienced. We all know one thing for sure: we are all going to die one
day. And when we do die, we may not get the opportunity to come back
and explain our experience.
Many religions believe in life after death. It is said the soul goes
out of the body to live a new life in the spiritual realm. A wicked
person is sent to hell to be tormented by a blazing fire, while a
righteous person is sent to heaven to live an eternal and joyful life.
However, scientists believe that this religious interpretation of death is just a mythology. Some researchers have therefore devoted themselves to unraveling this mystery. The starting point: establish that there is some sort of life after death.
At the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, researchers have confirmed in a new study that there is indeed life after death. The study has been published in the online journal Resuscitation.
The study is said to be the largest ever medical study into near-death and out-of-body experiences.
The study revealed that some awareness may continue even after the
brain has shut down completely. A human being is pronounced clinically
dead if the heart stops beating and the brain shuts down. The condition
can also be called cardiac arrest. According to the researchers,
they spent four years examining more than 2,000 people who suffered
cardiac arrests at 15 hospitals in the United Kingdom, the United States
and Austria. They found that nearly 40 percent of people who survived
their resuscitation, described some kind of awareness during the time
when they were clinically dead.
Of the 2,060 cardiac arrest patients studied, 330 survived and of 140
surveyed, 39 percent said they had experienced some kind of awareness
while being resuscitated. Although many of them could not recall
specific details, some themes emerged. One in five said they had felt an
unusual sense of peacefulness, while nearly one third said time had
slowed down or speeded up.
Some recalled seeing a bright light; a golden flash or the Sun
shining. Others recounted feelings of fear, drowning or being dragged
through deep water, 13 percent said they had felt separated from their
bodies, and the same number said their senses had been heightened.
A 57-year-old man from Southampton, who was pronounced dead for three
minutes, said he left his body entirely, watching his resuscitation
from the corner of the room. He was able to accurately recount the
actions of the nursing staff and the sound of the machines used in his
resuscitation process.
Lead researcher of the study, Dr Sam Parnia said the study accurately revealed that people experience some awareness after death.
Dr Parnia was quoted as saying: “We
know the brain can’t function when the heart has stopped beating. But
in this case, conscious awareness appears to have continued for up to
three minutes into the period when the heart wasn’t beating, even though
the brain typically shuts down within 20-30 seconds after the heart has
stopped. The man described everything that had happened in the room,
but importantly, he heard two bleeps from a machine that makes a noise
at three minute intervals. So we could time how long the experience
lasted for. He seemed very credible and everything that he said had
happened to him had actually happened.”
Dr Parnia also added that many more people may have experienceswhen they are close to death, but the drugs or sedatives used in the process of resuscitation may stop them remembering.
“Estimates have suggested that
millions of people have had vivid experiences in relation to death but
the scientific evidence has been ambiguous at best. Many people have
assumed that these were hallucinations or illusions but they do seem to
corresponded to actual events. And a higher proportion of people may
have vivid death experiences, but do not recall them due to the effects
of brain injury or sedative drugs on memory circuits. These experiences
warrant further investigation,” Dr Parnia said.
Commenting on the study, the editor-in-chief of the journal Resuscitation,
Dr Jerry Nolan said Dr Parnia and his colleagues are to be
congratulated on the completion of a fascinating study that will open
the door to more extensive research into what happens when we die.

When we visited Annapolis on April 2, we walked around and walked into a couple of places that
turned out to be haunted. In Part 2 of Our Annapolis Haunted Encounters, you'll meet: The Ghostly Woman Outside.
Warehouse sign
I've sensed a woman outside of one of the old buildings before, and she continued to stand on the southeastern corner of a white building known as the Waterfront Warehouse. She didn't work in the warehouse in the early 1800s, but she was murdered outside of it by a man with long curly hair (so I (Rob) sensed). It's really weird to get these images when you're just standing outside on a sidewalk in front of a building, but after proving them for many years, you go with it and trust it.
The Waterfront Warehouse is on the corner of "Market Space" and Pinkney Street" in downtown old Annapolis, about 2 blocks from the dock.
Historic display in the warehouse
Stairway to the 2nd floor of the warehouse
What's interesting is that the warehouse itself is not haunted. The ghostly woman, who wears a bonnet and a shawl of sorts, stands outside in front of the right corner. That's where she was murdered by a vagabond who apparently came off of one of the ships at night, and was seeking pleasure (that she refused to give) and money, which she didn't have, so he took her life.

Today your focus may be on children or someone may show up from the past

the benevolence of the Universe is always a good idea. Our past is
filled with people who made an important impact on our lives. Today as

your life in some way and helped change your life and bring you to where
you are today.

In today's blog we're going to take you to a new shop that opened in downtown Annapolis where we
both had a weird experience. There's a shop on the corner of Market Street (I can't see the cross street on the sign and don't remember it) across from the State House. There was something weird going on in that shop.
The shop is filled with art work, pottery, jewelry, paintings and other decorative things. There are many nice things within, and some strange things, too. The shop was apparently the location of a former florist as there are 4 large freezer cases (or they used to be) that now act as a showcase for artwork.
It was the basement, however, where things happened. Tom sensed a man crouching in the northeast corner of the basement, and it was there that I had a very strong pain in my left eye. I (Rob) realized that the man (ghost) was either stabbed, shot or punched in the eye. It was likely that he was shot or stabbed since he was dead, and died in that building. He still haunts it today. It's unknown what his name is, or what he was doing there, but it seems to me that it was either a tavern or a brothel in the late 1700s.
Regardless, there's a ghost in that shop, and we wonder what strange things happen in there. Next time we visit the city, I'll have to ask if they have experiences.

Here's this week's Tarot lesson from
my friend Joy Andreasen of Whispers of Joy: The King of Pentacles. Abundance
means different things to different people. Abundance is not just
money. The feeling of abundance is all about what makes life joyful for
you. If you are a millionaire but are miserable, then you are not
abundant. Every day, do something that brings you joy. Never make a
decision based upon how much money you will make. Make it based upon how
much joy you will derive from life. Obviously we all need money to
live, but joy is what makes us truly rich. Just for today, think of
abundance as what gives you joy, and work towards doing that more often.

Recently I received the following great question about spirit, and here's my response:
Q: Is there a way to know for sure who is giving me signs from spirit?
A: Here's how to know which spirit is giving you a message:
1)
If you're thinking about that person or pet, then that is who is
dropping a coin, making an insect or bird act strangely, etc.
2)
If the sign comes around the time of a birthday, anniversary or
holiday, or date associated with them - like the adoption anniversary or
anniversary of someone's passing, wedding, date they met you, etc.
3) If you find a coin, the year on it will give a clue to whom is around you
4)
If you're missing someone in particular at that time, and thinking
about them they often want to let you know they are with you.
