Amazing Spirit Helps 2 Neighbors Find Answers!

This is story from my day at the Richmond Pet Expo promoting my book "Pets and the Afterlife." In

this blog you'll hear an amazing paranormal story from two attendees who are friends and neighbors. Right after I gave my talk about my book "Pets and the Afterlife" two women came over to talk with me.

SIGNS FROM A NEIGHBOR'S SPIRIT- One of the women, I'll call her Mary, had a tiny peach colored teacup poodle in her arms who couldn't cuddle enough. Mary said that the dog belonged to her late neighbor Connie. Connie knew that her time was coming and told Mary that she just wants to make sure her poodle is safe in a good home. Mary said if none of Connie's children would adopt the dog, she would take the dog. Connie worked around that by placing a note-turned-last-will on her kitchen table before she went to the hospital for the first time, stating "My neighbor Mary is adopting my dog." So it was.

THE DOG'S GRIEF - Mary said that she knows the dog has been grieving and seems to be aware of the passing of Connie. She said that the tiny dogs eyes had streaks of tears for 2 weeks, and the little dog can't cuddle closely enough to Mary. Yes, dogs grieve, just as they do when another pet dies. One thing I've learned from pet spirits (yes, to some it would sound crazy) is that they want us to get another dog and give him/her the love that was given to them.

NEIGHBOR'S SPIRIT INFLUENCES A WIN - The other woman (I'll call Betty) who was there with Mary didn't have a dog. But Betty noted that all of Connie's (the late neighbor) feral cats had come into her yard when Connie passed (and there was no food outside anymore) looking for food. Betty said she began to feed them and there were several. Just before she came to the Pet Expo, she was trying to figure out how she would afford cat food for many feral cats! THAT'S WHEN CONNIE'S SPIRIT STEPPED IN - Spirits have a way of influencing us to do things for our

benefit. Betty and Mary both said they weren't planning to come to the Pet Expo, but decided last minute "as if being pushed" (said Mary). When they got there, Mary needed to hear how I talked about a spirit's influence on our decisions. So did Betty. As soon as they arrived, they heard about a Karaoke contest and entered it singing "Cats in the Cradle."  
   So, I asked what happened. Betty said "We won $1,000.00 worth of cat food, can you believe it?"
   Yup. THAT'S EXACTLY how spirits work. Connie's spirit pushed Mary and Betty to the expo knowing that Mary needed to know about influencing spirits and the grief the little dog was showing was real. Betty needed to be able to afford to feed Connie's feral cats and now she can.
   BOTTOM LINE: Next time you think people (or pets) on the other side can't influence you for the better, they can.

Cat Spirit at the Vet's Office!

Tonight I went to my local vet as two of our Dachshunds needed to get their Bordatella update shot.

After the Vet Tech weighed them we went into the exam room with the dogs to give them their shots. She asked me if I was the medium (the Vet's office folks know me and some have read my books). I told her I was. I told her that there was a feline spirit around her. She said that her cat passed recently and she wanted to know if she was around.
  Her cat was in fact, there, although I couldn't get her cat's name. Her cat had a great message for the Vet tech, though. Her cat's spirit said, "Thank you for taking care of other animals, mom, and giving them the love you gave to me every day. I'm still with you."
  I was trying to corral my two dachshunds, so I kept getting distracted, and after I was on my way back to my car, the cat's spirit had followed me outside and told me that she's going to be walking around her mom's house tonight and will curl up on the bed with her mom. Hopefully, her mom will realize her spirit cat is present!

Spirit Cat Call at the Fortfest Conference!

Yesterday I had the honor of speaking at the FORTFEST conference in Baltimore, Md. I gave a talk I

called the "Dark and Light of the Paranormal." The first part was about a Double Murder Ghost Investigation that I took part in with the Inspired Ghost Tracking Group. The second part was about my new book "Pets and the Afterlife" and how pets can communicate with us from the other side.
   As I was giving the talk, there were a couple of spirit animals running around in the room!  One resembled a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, with a light brown patch on his back. The other was a light brown cat that kept weaving in and out of the chairs. The cat was a very strong spirit and wanted to let his mom know that he was there and that the love they share keeps them bonded even in the afterlife. A woman in the audience immediately knew that it was her cat.
   Several people I spoke with afterward told me how their pets came back and gave them signs!

Mother's Day: Celebrating Moms Alive or Passed

Happy mother's day to all the moms!  That includes moms of human, canine, feline, etc. Hope you enjoy the day. For those who lost a mom, we have some advice to make it a good day.

CELEBRATING THE DAY - Yesterday we took my partner's mom out for a mother's day lunch because the crowds in restaurants today are out of control. We had a great lunch at a restaurant which was a hidden gem in a golf course clubhouse Apparently, not many thought of it, and it was really good. Those are the kinds of places that make lunches more memorable. 

FIRST YEAR WITHOUT MY MOM - LIKE BEING OUT-OF-STATE-     This is the first Mother's day without my mom, and several friends have mentioned how difficult it may be - well, because of my gift to talk to my mom and understand

messages from her- it's really not. That may sound somewhat cold, but it's not. My mom has lived 400 miles away in another state for 25 years. That's a long time... and it's like she's still living in another state. That's how everyone who lost their mom should think of them. Your mother will always be a part of you. They helped raise you (well good moms do). You've learned habits and talents from them. You repeat their expressions when you talk. You treat others the way you learned from mom. You may or may not clean your house the way she did.

WHAT'S IMPORTANT -    What's important is that when our moms pass away in physical form, their spirit still comes back from time to time. If you don't recognize the signs, then pick up my book "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead" and learn what they are. Don't sit at home and pout. Your mom on the other side would say, "cut it out!" Go enjoy mother's day. If not for you, then go out in the world and do something good for someone and say it's in my name."

So, enjoy mother's day and don't dwell on the fact your mom may have passed. She's still around. Think of her as living in another state and you can't drive up there to see her. She can hear you. Just let her know you love her, and remember that she wants you to do something to enjoy YOUR day and even honor her if you wish.

Amazing Day at the Hope and Healing Conference!

Recently, my friend and medium Troy C. and I got to give a talk at the "Hope and Healing Conference in Annapolis, Md. We met a lot of wonderful people and many times when I would point out a way that spirit communicates through signs that they're around, people would raise their hand and tell me that's exactly what happened to them.

It was a conference for parents who lost their children. We spoke about "How to Recognize Signs from Loved Ones Who Passed" based on my books.   
SPIRIT USING CELL PHONES:  I think there were about 5 people that raised their hands after I mentioned spirits will sometimes use  telephones or cell phones. They all proceeded to tell me that their late daughter or son called them !  They all said that their child's number came up on their phone when they knew that the phone number had been disconnected. Amazing what spirits can do!

BUTTERFLIES, BIRDS, ETC. - I talked about how butterflies and birds can be signs from loved ones, and several of the people acknowledged they started seeing certain ones after their child passed. One woman said that her grandmother always had goldfinches in her yard. The woman however, said she had never had one goldfinch in her yard until after her grandmother passed away. She immediately knew those goldfinches were sent over by her grandmother's spirit!

2 AMAZING CONFIRMATIONS - Before I arrived I received signs from a young man who said he died in a car accident after driving down a neighborhood street at night. I was also given names and car type (although I'm not good with identifying cars). A young woman came through so strongly and it turned out it was two young women - both of whom passed of bleeding on the brain. That's what I told the folks in the workshop, and it matched up with two people in the room, whose daughters passed that way. 

TROY THE HEALER -  Troy provided a lot of healing to a certain group of people in the audience, too. He gave them messages that suicide victims had crossed over, and helped one cross over in the room, who had been attached to her mother! Troy's dad is in the ministry and Troy called his dad the night before the conference and they blessed a "prayer cloth." It is intended to bring peace and healing. He handed them out to the 30 people we had in our 2 workshops.
- I think I can speak for Troy and say that we felt that we gave people comfort, hope and knowledge that their loved ones are still with them from time to time. We also taught them how to look for signs and what the signs were.
    Being at the conference was truly one of the best places that we could ever be to share comfort and provide hope to anyone that lost a loved one. It was also amazing to see how many people wanted to know more about pets in the afterlife, too. (I didn't have enough of those books with me!).
 We really feel as if we made a positive difference in the healing of hearts this weekend, and that's a good feeling! 

Signs from a Dog Spirit Named Sahara: Part 2: Game Playing

 Last week I wrote about an email I received from Deborah, whose dog named Sahara passed and keeps sending her coins to let her know that Sahara is still around her. This week, Deborah shared another way that Sahara communicated- by playing a game she loved to play when in the physical plane.

Rob,   I remembered a couple of things I wanted to share with you: First, Sahara and I used to play "Find it" where I would toss or hide cookies and she would find them - I think that she does this with the coins for me! I think that is why they come in multiples. She didn't really carry a lot of things in her mouth at once, but she would scout around for lots of cookies.
    When I found the five dimes, there was a tennis ball on top of the first one which I instantly saw and went over to it thinking of Sahara (her favorite toy.) The tennis ball was upstairs on a dining patio where she used to like to sniff for obvious reasons. When I went to pick it up, there was a dime beneath it and then I discovered the others one by one which were all under chairs belonging to the same table and within a few feet of the tennis ball.
    By the way, I have found a penny each day since I wrote (4 days), but only one of those days was in the parking spot and I found two pennies that day! ;)

Had an amazing time at the Richmond Pet Expo yesterday! Thanks to Karin Bakken and Ann of DC Weimaraner rescue! 
   My talk went very well about my book "Pets and the Afterlife" and I touched a lot of pet parent hearts (Despite dealing with asthma and recovering from sinus surgery!). 
   So many people recognized signs from their pets, it was amazing. There were a lot of hugs, happy tears and acknowledgements.

Signs from a Dog Spirit Named Sahara PART 1: Coins

   I just released my new book called Pets and the Afterlife, and I've been receiving some great questions about how pets communicate.     
   One email was from Deborah who asked about how her dog Sahara could make coins appear before her. Deborah also was kind enough  to provide me with photos of her dog Sahara, and a very, very moving video (below).

DEBORAH WROTE: Question: Can you tell me how she can do this?
  My dog (who was my soulmate) recently passed in January, 2013. In this one particular parking spot where we used to park to go for a walk, I find coins. It started one day as I was thinking about Sahara and how when we parked, I would open the back, etc.... I looked down and there was a dime. That was last June. Since then, I have found about 15 or so coins at different times (mostly pennies and dimes) in the same exact parking spot (I've also found about 30 other coins in other places plus 24 pennies at one time - not when I was looking). I will often find a cluster of coins: once I found 5 dimes and I have found a few pennies with a nickle and dime and also I sat one day, picked up a stick and dug up a quarter.

   I notice that I find the parking spot coins 'on demand' sometimes - I want to connect and I'll ask her to please send me a coin. I will kick over leaves and stand around for about 5 minutes. Suddenly, I will notice a coin, either I turn around and it is on the curb or I look around and it just appears. The most I have gone without seeing a coin in the parking spot was 2 months. The coins are usually in alignment with where I would sit in the car; in other words, not willy nilly, but I can count on them being on the left side of the spot and about 1 foot from the line. I have found 3 coins (dime/nickel/penny) in the same exact spot on 3 consecutive days. The third day, I went back again because I couldn't believe what was happening and asked Sahara if it was really her - After a few minutes, I spotted a dime behind me, sitting on top of the leaves.
   Rob, I know it is her; I am closer to her than to anyone else in my whole life, but ...My question: Can you tell me how she can do this? Does it take a lot of energy?


MY RESPONSE: What a great story of communication!  Yes, those coins are signs from Sahara (sorry about your loss).  Dogs, like humans have the ability to move things from place to place (that's an "apport") using energy.
  - There are a lot of energies that can empower them do that. Spirits use the emotional energy of love that we share with them in addition to physical energies like light, heat, movement and water energy. It takes some effort for a spirit to do that, but I get the sense that Sahara is VERY attached to you, and liked carrying multiple things/toys/etc. in her mouth sometimes, which is why you may get five coins at a time. Of course, she also wants to be noticed. She's saying "I'm still here with you, mom!"
-  Obviously Sahara knew you had coins when she was in physical form ... so because they're the smallest, lightest (and likely most shiny -which dogs love) object she remembers you having, she chooses to send them to you.  The proof that you asked her to send you one and then found one after is all you need!  So,please  acknowledge that Sahara is there everytime you find a coin. She's tagging along with you, and maybe even riding in the front seat!

  DEBORAH REPLIED:   I want every guardian to know that they ARE here with us after we physically say goodbye. It's so important that people be reassured so they can feel uplifted and begin to communicate with their pets in their own way.  Thank you many times!

VIDEO HONORING SAHARA:  Goodbye Sahara. The life of a dog. A beautiful soul who lost her leg due to bone cancer became a reading therapy dog for kids. This tripawd lived on another five whole years to a ripe old age of 13 (and a half) due to her courage and spirit. She was an amazing three-legged dog who always was the center of attention and quite happy to entertain. Goodbye Sahara. Return to wholeness with peace and freedom, and visit me often in dreams.

My Amazing Reunion with the Bean Town Medium!

On April 10 I took the day off from work to welcome our friend and medium, Ruthie Larkin to the Mid-Atlantic. She  came to visit 4 families, each of whom lost a teenager in a car accident one year ago in eastern Maryland. I joined Ruthie and met the families, where I provided a background on how mediumship works, and how spirits send signs and messages.

RUTHIE'S IMMEDIATE CONNECTIONS - Ruthie really is amazing. She told me on the way over that someone's mother died in the last year or two (one of the teenage boys' grandmothers)  and that one of the boys is with her. She gave other details, too. Once in the house, she walked up to a young woman and asked if she was a sister. She nodded "yes." Ruthie said that her brother's spirit told her that she got a tattoo in her honor (the girl was wearing long sleeves and didn't have any visible tattoos). She rolled up her sleeve and showed Ruthie a big tattoo in her brother's memory.Ruthie stayed the rest of the day and met with each family member and provided a lot more amazing signs and confirmations!

A persistent Robin visits

  During Ruthie's opening, I got some messages that were confirmed.One was about robins, one was about airplanes.

ROBINS - MORE THAN A SIGN OF SPRING -  Two of the teenage boys' spirits told that their parents were sent Robins who lingered around them for days. That was a sign from them that they're both still around they're families.  
   NOTE: Spirits will send birds, insects or small animals to people to let them know they're around. It's just not a matter of a bird coming, but lingering and returning over and over, which is what happened here. 
  While I was giving my introduction, I mentioned this and two different parents acknowledged they each had a Robin around them. One father said that a Robin has been returning to his window over and over. Another father and mother said that a Robin has been around their lawn - the same one, over and over in a certain spot (not in a tree).

AIRPLANES - One of the teenage boys also showed me visions of planes flying overhead and coming in for a landing. He "told" me that he loved watching planes and was fascinated by them. I clearly saw the underside of a  plane landing. He told me to tell his parents "whenever a plane flies overhead, I'm standing with you." His dad disappeared for a minute and returned with a photo of he and his son in front of a Navy fighter jet and told me his son loved airplanes.
   - It's simple messages that help identify a spirit and let others know that they're around.

A Tribute to My Mom's Creativity: Homemade Dog Sweaters get 2nd Life

One of the best things we can do to pay tribute to those we lost is to re-purpose something they made or had, so it becomes valuable to someone else- in this case, our dogs!  
   My  mom passed on Dec. 29, and I returned in February to continue with the organization and clean out of the house to prepare it for sale. While I was cleaning out the "storage room" in mom's basement I came across a plastic bag full of dog sweaters that my mother hand made back in the 1980s/early 1990s for her poodle Gigi.
   Gigi was one of our family dogs who came to us in 1975. She lived until October 1993. My mother loved that little white poodle with all her heart and never got over losing her in 1993. While Gigi was part of the family, my mom, who made some of her own clothes, made shirts and pants for us (and a Batman costume for me), also handmade sweaters for Gigi!
  In the late 1980s I don't remember dog sweaters being around for sale in stores. In fact I don't remember many accessories for dogs like there are today. So, Mom was on the cutting-edge. Mom hand-knit several dog sweaters and even made Gigi a raincoat from one of my childhood raincoats!

   So, I happily took the dog sweaters that had been sitting in my parent's basement in a zippered plastic bag for 21 years (since Gigi passed). The sweaters perfectly fit our two Dachshunds: Franklin and Tyler and they've already enjoyed plenty of use from them with all the bitter cold and snow we've had over the last month.
  So, I post this story as a tribute to my mom's creativeness and talent as a clothing designer and clothing maker (for dogs in this case). Now her grand-dogs are enjoying her handmade gifts.

On April 5, I was responding to an email from my good friend Shelley, who is also a dachshund rescue volunteer. She just lost her beloved dog, Webster. As I wrote in my new book, Pets and the Afterlife" - losing a dog is the same as losing a child. My heart hurts for Shelley and everyone who loses a pet (as I've lost several dogs).
 
As I was writing to Shelley, her dog Webster's spirit came through to me immediately. I happened to log onto Pandora.com radio, and one of the stations I listen to is music from the 1980s. As soon as the music started to play, I wrote to Shelley and said "Webster JUST sent me a song for you. I've never heard it come up on Pandora and I instantly knew it was a message from him. Pets and the Afterlife: A Note to Help People Understand Why Pets are Our Children

  As you may know, I  just published my third book called "Pets and the Afterlife" about how dogs and cats can communicate with us from the afterlife. Today, a very good friend of mine who works with adults who tragically lost their human children told me that some of them were "offended" by my promotional postcard that compared losing a pet to a losing a child.
  To those folks, I say that it's important for people who either have human children and / or don't have pets to not criticize those of us who have a dog or cat and look at them as our children. One reason is because couples like my partner and I cannot have children. Another is that even people who have human children also regard their pets as children.  
   SO, WHY DO WE (and other) PET PARENTS CONSIDER THEIR DOGS/CATS CHILDREN?
     I think about and mourn the loss of our dogs Buzz and Sprite every day, just as people mourn the passing of their human children.  Why? Because, we taught them how to go to the bathroom, bathed them, groomed them, took them to (obedience) school and was excited at their graduation, watch them interact with others, take them to the doctor when they're sick, play with them, teach them, make friends, learn, love etc. They share love, anger, fear, excitement, just like human children do- Dr. Stanley Coren tested dogs (Chapter 3 of my book) and proved many have the intelligence of a 3-4 year old child.
    Dogs know when we're disappointed in them if they tear something up - and we come home, find out and they cringe. They know when we're sick and stay by our side, like human kids do.  The only thing they don't do is have careers and take care of us when we're old. 
   What's more, and more is that WE have to make the decision to put our "pet child" to final rest, something human parents don't really contend with unless in certain tragic circumstances.  - And that is the hardest part of unconditional love. So, for anyone that says to pet parents like me who can't have children, that pets are not like children, they choose not to recognize things outside of their own lives.
  My dogs are  my children. I am responsible for feeding, caring, loving them and keeping them healthy, just as humans are with human children. To tell me otherwise is as disrespectful of my feelings, and hurtful to me as my sentence was apparently to them.  So it's a matter of perspective. 
    Yes, of course losing a human child is horrendous. But to people that don't have human children, people that DO have them need to understand it's the same feeling of shock, horror, sadness, depression and a longing that will never be fulfilled. Grief is grief, and no one should tell you how to feel over losing someone you love.
