I get a lot of questions about the power of ashes, and what they can and cannot do with spirit. Here's a question I received about whether having ashes keep a spirit Earthbound (as a ghost).
Q: I lost my cat several months ago. She loved being outside in the backyard and so I wanted to put some of her ashes out there but I am scared of tethering her spirit to this house. In the next few years it is very likely we will sell this house and I don't want her to become trapped because some of her ashes are here. Is it safe to bury some of the ashes or will I prevent her from being able to be free?
A: Since she loved being outside, it's a wonderful idea to sprinkle some of her ashes in the backyard. - That will not tether her to the house. Ashes are just remnants of the former physical body, and don't hold a spirit back. In fact, your cat's spirit crossed over.
Ashes have a little residual energy,so they can help draw a spirit back to them, but it doesn't trap them!
Yes, you can also bury the ashes. Spirits aren't tethered to them. In fact, spirits have the ability to find us anywhere in the world.
