Great Local Hauntings Book: Haunted Boulder

I recently finished reading one of the best collections of local ghost stories I've ever read. It's called "Haunted
Boulder" as in Colorado, and it was written by Roz Brown and Ann Alexander Leggett.
The book is really interesting and makes you feel like you're inside the haunted properties they're talking about. The authors provide pictures of the properties, too, which really helps enhance the stories. Each story is well-written, and the authors did an amazing job of researching the histories of the past residents, interviewing current residents, and referencing newspaper articles.
Some of these stories are sure to stick with you for some time, like the Obsessive (grown-up) Boy Scout who is apparently still attached to his scouting awards long after his death. The hanging ghost of William Tull is another story I won't soon forget.
If you're planning to be in or around Boulder, Colorado, this book is a must-have. You can use it to make your own personal ghost tour. I highly recommend it!

What Cats and Dogs Can See that Humans Can’t: You Won’t Believe it!

In my books "Pets and the Afterlife" and "Pets and the Afterlife 2" I explain how dogs and cats have a different physiology that enables them to see and hear ghosts and spirits. As a scientist, I'm always excited by new findings, and now, new research revealed that they also can see in ultraviolet light, too!

What Cats and Dogs Can See that Humans Can’t: You Won’t Believe it!

Have you ever felt that your cat or dog can see something you don’t? Well, you may be right, according to a new study.

Cats, dogs, and other mammals are thought to see in ultraviolet light, which opens up a whole different world than the one we see, the study explains.

Seeing the World in Ultraviolet (UV) Light

UV light is the wave length beyond the visible light from red to violet that humans can see. Humans have a lens that blocks UV from reaching the retina. It was previously thought that most mammals have lenses similar to humans.

Scientists studied the lenses of dead mammals, including cats, dogs, monkeys, pandas, hedgehogs, and ferrets. By researching how much light passes through the lens to reach the retina, they concluded that some mammals previously thought not to be able to see UV actually can.

"Nobody ever thought these animals could see in ultraviolet, but in fact, they do," Ron Douglas, the study leader and a biologist at City University London, England, told LiveScience.

What purpose does being able to see UV light serve for animals such as reindeer, rodents, and other mammals? It allows reindeer to see polar bears, for example, which would be invisible in regular light because they blend in with the snow.

UV light also allows mammals to see urine trails. This would be helpful for prey animals, such as cats and dogs, to find food in the wild. (Click for original article)

OTHER THINGS they can see - a lot of common detergents, cleansers, minerals, dyes and pigments.

Amazing Night with Ruth Larkin, the Beantown Medium

Last Friday, my friend Ruthie Larkin, the Beantown Medium made a special appearance in Maryland at the
Inspired Ghost Tracking (IGT) meeting to do a show of mediumship and messages from spirit. The meeting generated a lot of interest from the public and more than 150 people registered for it.
Margaret Ehrlich, founder of IGT opened the meeting and I gave an overview of how mediumship works. Ruthie gave messages to many people in the audience for over 2 hours. It was a pretty amazing night and the readings were spot on. We hope that Ruthie will come back for another show.
If you would like to book a phone reading with her or an in-person reading in Massachusetts, visit her website: www.beantownmedium.com.

Here are some photos and comments from the event.

Jeffrey  - I was listening to each reading Ruthie had done and she was hitting home runs, the energy I was feeling in that place was very strong tonight. I kept thinking cell phone was going off but I had turned it off, just that energy. When she hit on the energy I was feeling and my mother right off the bat Ms. Ruthie Larkin is the best I've seen.

Angie       Really enjoyed the evening

Renee      - Really enjoyed this event...and winning my book !! I hope Ruthie comes back some time soon

Margaret - This was a good meeting and hope to have more like this. There were lots of people there too which is always great.

Patricia  - Enjoyed the evening and meeting Ruthie. Hope she comes back again!

A Way to Pay Tribute to pets in spirit

Sprite and Buzz's ashes and favorite toys
I receive a lot of emails every week asking for messages from pets who  pass, and thought I'd take a moment to share how we recognize that our pets are still with us. In one of the rooms that we're usually in, we keep the ashes of Buzz and Sprite with their photos and favorite toys.
backyard markers for Buzz and Sprite

In the backyard, we ordered plaques that we had engraved with their names and dates and a paw print. They are pictured here with newly planted flowers. *******************************************

The loss of a pet is like to loss of a child to pet owners. The love we share with our pets never dies and author Rob Gutro proves that in messages from pets in spirit in his new book "Pets and the Afterlife 2" and "Pets and the Afterlife." Both are available on Amazon.com
