Glastenbury, Vermont
Tucked into the unforgiving Glastenbury Mountain, Glastenbury was never a particularly popular place, with families settling, then moving in short order.
After the Civil War, the area saw some success as logging businesses moved in and began to cut down the mountain’s vast forests, turning the logs into charcoal. The logging and charcoal industries saw such great success that, by the 1880s, all the mature timber had been cut down and most of Glastenbury’s residents moved on.
Now, the area is known for its spate of hikers disappearing under mysterious circumstances, as well as Bigfoot sightings. However, the hike up the Glastenbury Fire Tower is said to be one of the best in the state, if you dare.
