Rob Gutro is an author, paranormal investigator and medium with Inspired Ghost Tracking of Maryland. Since he was a child he could receive messages from ghosts or spirits (who have crossed over). *He wrote the books "Pets and the Afterlife," "Pets and the Afterlife 2," "Ghosts and Spirits" and "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead" to teach others how ghosts and Spirits communicate with the living and to give proof of the afterlife. As a scientist, he also provides some scientific explanations about how energy is the baseline for the afterlife and the medium that entities use to communicate.

Urns, Ashes and Spirit Visitors

I gave a talk at the Novel Places Bookstore in Clarksburg, Maryland this week, and was asked about urns.
 - People who have urns in their homes with ashes of people or pets may get spiritual visitors. Ghosts are earth-bound and usually stuck to the places they choose to dwell.Spirits (human or pets) who cross over into the light, however, can come back to earth and visit their loved ones any time they have something to say. Having their ashes in the house gives the spirits something to be drawn to.
- At the talk in the book store, someone asked a good question - Why are spirits drawn to their ashes? The answer is energy. Spirits (and ghosts) are all energy. The ashes we leave behind have residual energy of the person that passed. Just as if a human left residual energy on an object (like a clock or a door) when they were alive, if it had some emotional meaning to them. Ashes also have that "thumbprint" of emotional energy, and spirits are also drawn to them.
- Spirits of both humans and pets can be drawn to their ashes. Ashes act like a beacon to them whenever emotional energy is present to help power them.
- One of the women in the audience told me that she has he ashes of her cat, and has sensed that cat several times. My own puppy that passed has come back to me many times, and I have his ashes in the house. Years ago, a roommate had ashes of his mother in the house and she appeared in the house who appeared as a dark shadow in the apartment. So, urns containing ashes can enable spirits to come back from time to time and visit. Just watch for them!

    1. No need to be scared of your loved one! They always visit regardless of if you have their ashes in an urn or not. They're not harmful either. Physical death is just one step in the entire life process. They're still the same person as they were, just without the physical body. You can talk to them and they'll hear you, too. If you didn't fear them in life, no need to fear them on the other side either- just let them know they're loved and remembered.

    1. I don't know where you heard that- but it's simply untrue. The souls of our loved ones either cross over or decide to stay here at the time of their passing. There's nothing to "take." - This sounds like a superstition made up to make people paranoid and scared - there is no basis in truth to it.

  8. I have recently had to euthanize my dog(on September 2, 2014 @ 4:15 a.m.z) due to strong pains from his slow, painful, process of becoming paralyzed from the waste down. He hasn't communicated with me either in person or in my dreams.. Does that mean he is angry with me? I am still very hurt by the process and just recently received his ashes.. I talk to him and feel a sense of joy but don't know whether that's just me or him being near..

    1. I'm so sorry about your loss. Your dog is not angry at you. In fact, once they're on the other side, our pets know of the difficult choice we had to make on their behalf- one that bring us pain and sorrow. - Be assured that your dog is around you from time to time and that he treasures the love you share. - You may consider reading my book "Pets and the Afterlife" - which may help you recognize signs from him. : http://www.amazon.com/Pets-Afterlife-Rob-Gutro/dp/1497378613/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1395953729&sr=1-1

  9. We recently moved to a new house. We are only the 3rd owners and after some research I don't believe there to be any deaths in the house. However a few weeks ago I was awaken by what felt like an extremly light touch on top of my comforter while I was sleeping. I didn't think much of it until this past Saturday I was awoken by the same sensation and again the night after. I tried to explain to my husband that it felt like a cat gently pawing or stepping on the comforter. But he quickly dismissed my thought and said it may have been the knitted blanket at the foot of the bed shifting (which it could've been) But then I immediately remembered that I still have the ashes of a beloved cat of mine who died a year ago that we keep in our bedroom. Could this be her????? If so, I would like to know what I can do to have her move on. Should I bury her ashes? I loved my cat but I don't want to welcome any spirits into the house. Please help!

    1. Thank you for sharing your experience. Love is positive emotional energy that binds us together with those we love, whether pet or person. Yes, your feeling was very likely your cat that passed. Cats usually provide touch as a means of communicating they are visiting us. She's crossed over, so no need to worry. Whenever a pet passes, our human relatives are usually on the other side to welcome them across. She will only be there from time to time. - As for any other 'visitors" - if you believe you have an Earth-bound ghost in your home tell them to move on. Explain that it is your home, and belongs to you and your family now. - Feel free to message me through facebook with future issues or email me directly at rgutro@gmail.com and I'll be happy to help! 10. I got my dog's ashes back today. I also selected a necklace with a heart and some of her cremains were placed inside the locket. I put it on and placed my left palm over the locket and pressed it close to my heart. For two seconds and only two seconds, I felt a soft electrical type of charge. I was shocked and immediately felt peace. I could not believe what I felt so I tried it again and again but there was no other feeling. It was a one time occurrence and I am still in a state of peace and happiness. I believe it was her spirit that was now resting with me on my heart.

    1. Thank you for your note. So sorry about the passing of your beloved dog. What a wonderful tribute to her to keep some of her ashes in a locket- and a great sign from her that she's still with you! Love is positive emotional energy that binds us together with those we love (whether pet or person) - The energy can be physically sensed some times, and it appears that your girl made it happen for you. Take comfort in knowing she's still with you in spirit. Rob

  11. My daughters dog just passed yesterday Oct 11th I am feeling guilty on account I feel like I should of taken her back to the vet. But one minute she was bouncing around then the next she didn't look so good. I just didn't think she was going to pass. My daughter let her out and when she came in she went to her bed. She called her and angel never came she died. I am having a hard time with this. She had a heart murmur and was on medication. I am having her cremated and I want to keep her with me so I can hug her urn. I didn't realize how much I really did loved her but its obvious now because the tears won't stop and I can't eat. I just don't know if she suffered and if she's mad at me because she feels I could of did more for her or I should of known she was dying. This is breaking my heart please help.

    1. You need not feel guilty. Dogs know when they're going to pass, and like people, they make a choice to pass in the presence of someone or pass quietly alone. That's what your daughter's dog did. She made the choice to pass alone and doesn't want you to feel guilty. It was her time and she passed the way she wanted to. - She didn't suffer. It was a quiet, peaceful passing. She laid down, closed her eyes and her heart stopped. She's certainly not angry with you and she is well aware of the good care you took. She does not want you to feel guilty. She passed the way she wanted. Please feel free to email me at Rgutro@gmail.com with any other questions. Sincerely, Rob Gutro

    2. I totally understand what you're going through. Our family dog developed an illness that required him to take meds and also he became aggressive. One day I couldn't get him to take his med and he passed that night. It's been 6 yrs and I still haven't forgiven myself. I should have tried harder but I didn't.

  12. I recently euthanized my young (4year old) dog due to aggressive behaviour. I tried for 2.5 years to help him lead a normal dog life... Several trainers, agility, positive reinforcement, socialization, and more. Nothing helped and then he started directing aggression at me when he reached or went over his threshold (which was as simple as seeing another dog about 50+ feet away). I used an animal communicator to see if he was happy or could be happy... The answer was no. He said he was ready to leave and thanked me for all I had done for him. I made the heartbreaking decision to let him go. I have his ashes. A few weeks later, my other dog started exhibiting behaviours as if my (recently deceased) dog was still here...ie concern that he would hurt her or me again. The animal communicator says his energy is still here and he has a message for me, but will only tell me...I have tried to receive the message but have been unsuccessful. I'm mostly concerned because my living dog seems scared at times...

    1. It seems as if you have done everything you could to address the behavior issues. I applaud you for trying every route including an animal communicator. - Your dog who passed does come back from time to time, so your other dog will see and hear the dog in spirit. However, you need not be worried, just tell your dog (in spirit) to move on. - The message your dog has is actually one of thanks. He was not comfortable in this life, and there was something mentally not right about him, but he sees that now that he's on the other side. He wants to thank you for the extreme effort that you made to try and help him during his time on Earth. He knows he was a handful, but his illness made him unable to help himself with his bad behavior. He also acknowledges the feelings of guilt and agony that you had making the decision to euthanize him, given no alternative. He says 'you did the right thing," and that he could not have lived a normal life. However, he knew before he came here how his life and his behavior would be, and his spirit accepted the challenge. He said that he came into YOUR life because there were lessons that you gleaned from having him in the family. You proved to yourself that you go above and beyond in the care of others, that you are an amazing person who sometimes doubts yourself but should not. ** As for your other dog, offer comfort and say "all gone." - For your dog in spirit, tell him to "go home" - and you can also call on your relatives in spirit to come and get him. Just let him know that you now understand the message he's been trying to convey to you from the other side, and you accept his thanks. - If you have other questions- please email me directly at Rgutro@gmail.com. Sincerely, Rob Gutro

  14. I really love these stories. They fill my heart with some comfort and peace. Please keep up your meaningful work and endeavours. My little dog just died. We only found out she had kidney failure when it was in Stage 4. It took all of two weeks from her diagnosis to her death. She was only 1year 11months. We cremated her and kept her ashes in a beautiful urn in our house along with her other dog who died at almost 17 years of age. (She died 3 years ago). We are devastated by the recent loss. Reading your replies makes me feel so happy that they are in a better place. I pray for them all the time.

  15. My son who was 44 passed on Jan 1st 2013. I felt for the past several weeks I was ready to scatter his ashes which I have and are sealed. I feel secure knowing he is here with me where I live and as he was also a smoker I also smell his cigarette smoke in here from time to time, I don't smoke. My regret is he died alone and I was not with him. If i release his ashes and keep only a small amount for myself will his spirit be totally free. This is the one question that has bothered me the most. I want him to be free and if any chance he wont be if I would keep a small amount of his ashes then I will scatter them all. I need some peace of mind, Thanks

    1. Hi Shirley - Thank you for your note. You're right that he's still around you from time to time. Spirits use sight, sound, feel and even scent to convey their visits. He doesn't want you to feel regret or guilt for not being with him during his passing. Sometimes people prefer to pass by themselves. Regardless, he's with you now and has given you signs to show you how much the love you share binds you together. His spirit is free. He comes and goes as he pleases and only visits to let you know how much he loves you. - You can keep some of his ashes. Ashes are just remnants of a physical life. His spirit and energy are separated from his ashes. You should keep some of his ashes if you wish, and spread out the rest in a place you think he would've liked. His sign of scent is a strong communication that he visits from time to time.

    1. Ashes in urns have a residual energy of the people they once were and when someone who loved them comes near them- it gives them energy to come back and visit! When you sense someone around it means that your love for them helped them come visit.

  18. I am nervous of allowing my parents to be cremated when that time comes. I was told that cremation causes the soul to burn for eternity.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Dear Anonymous- Cremation does not cause a soul to "burn for all eternity." Once the physical body is dead, the spirit transitions to energy and either chooses to cross over into the light (heaven/valhalla/paradise/energies of the cosmos) or remain an Earth-bound ghost. The idea of "burning for eternity" was created by man and is unfounded and ridiculous. Cremation is no different from burying people. After all, would people who die in explosions and fires "burn for all eternity" because their bodies were burned to ash? That's ridiculous. It's just a superstition made up by someone or some religion to scare people into getting them to do something other than cremation. In fact, since there is less and less space for physical burials, cremation is a much better alternative. We've cremated our pets who passed and also plan on being cremated. The physical body was just a shell that housed the spirit. It's perfectly fine for your parents to be cremated, better for the environment, for them (think about their physical bodies decaying in the ground, and either way their spirits will move on.

  19. Mom died six weeks ago, and we had her cremated. We have her urn in the living room. We haven't sensed her presence yet, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about it.

If she is inclined to visit, but Dad and I move to another house, would she be able to find us if we put the urn in the new house? Or would she only be able to look for us in the house she'd lived in?

    1. Your mom's energy is connected to you and spirits can go anywhere, so she will always be with you. Only earth-bound ghosts are fixed to a location - your mom is a spirit and has crossed over.

I decided to cremated him but I Don't know if he wanted that..I have his ashes at home in our room where he passed, but I only got a strong sweet incense type smell a couple days after he died. I didn't got any more signs, and I don't know if he is very disappointed on me because I'm being in some how peaceful state that I don't understand. ..I want the best for him, and I don't know if keeping him at home is maybe bother him. I also felt signs in my home before he passed and I thought there was another energy in the house..Please help protect my husband. What is the best for him to be truly free and in peace. I LOVE HIM

    3. Hello Gabriela- Apologies for the delay in responding! I just saw your note (this was an old blog!). The sweet smell you encountered was your husband's approval of having him cremated. He's well in the afterlife, and around you, protecting you and keeping you safe. He hears you every day (sound and thoughts are energy, and a spirit is energy).

    1. From time to time, your father's spirit may visit, as spirits often do. Usually around birthdays, anniversaries and holidays, so that could be part of the issue. If there is anything shiny on the urn, like a silver or gold, that tends to frighten dogs.

    1. It could be a number of things. 1) moisture on the ground scattered as a result of dropping something on it 2) dust stirred up from dropping something on it. 3) OR it could have been your grandfather's spirit coming back to visit to thank her for scattering his ashes as he requested.
