An Assist from the Other Side: A N.H. man's Lost Class Ring Found 53 Years Later

Here's an amazing story from the Boston Globe about finding a ring in a lake 53 years later. When you read this story, you may understand that the man's late dad helped in finding the ring. That's because it was found on his birthday. Remember, spirits of our loved ones come around on Birthdays, anniversaries or holidays to let us know they're around, and there's no such thing as a coincidence.  I write about these things in my books (Ghosts and Spirits, Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead, Kindred Spirits, and my Pets and the Afterlife books)- all on Amazon.
Anyway here's the story:

A N.H. man lost his class ring skipping stones in 1967. His wife set out to find it 53 years later, and she did.

“I always thought, 'Well, we can probably find that if we went looking,' and it was always
something I wanted to do."
Since Kathy Rowell has known her husband Steve of 31 years, she said she’s also known the story of how he lost his high school class ring. Back in 1967, Steve Rowell was 16 and a sophomore in high school. He had had the ring, which he’d paid for himself, for just weeks before it slipped off his finger while he was skipping rocks with his brothers at Drew’s Pond in Barrington, New Hampshire.

Upset, he tossed his bike into the water, too, Kathy said. His brothers retrieved the bike, but the ring was gone. Until now. The ring hadn’t seen the light of day until Sunday, Sept. 27, when Kathy and a friend with a metal detector pulled it from the pond’s murky depths.

“I always thought, ‘Well, we can probably find that if we went looking,’ and it was always something I wanted to do,” Kathy said in an interview with Boston.com. In the past she’s helped others find things they’ve lost, and she was “determined” to find Steve’s ring. Kathy and her daughter decided last year they would begin searching for it, but life got in the way and they didn’t have the time until recently. Kathy had also mentioned her idea to a friend, noting that she thought using a metal detector could help. “And he said, ‘I have a metal detector, I’d love to go with you,’” Kathy said.

The team went a few weeks ago and searched for about 3 ½ hours to no avail. It began to rain; they marked off where they had concluded their search for the day and went home.

Then, a week ago Sunday, the search was back on. Kathy noted that the environmental conditions were in her favor. While Steve had said the pond water was probably 6 feet deep where the ring landed decades ago, the drought had put the water at about 2 feet in that location. “My husband came with us for a few minutes and kind of showed us the location he thought it was in,” she said.
A New England Patriots fan, he soon left to go watch the game.

After searching for a bit, among a “bunch of junk” in a bucket pulled from the pond was Steve’s ring, red stone intact. Kathy returned home and presented it to her other half. “He couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I had it on my finger. He was just blown away.”

That particular day, Sept. 27, also holds a significance to the couple as it’s Steve’s late father’s birthday. “It was just heartwarming,” Kathy said. “I still get chills thinking about it.”

Steve, now 69, can slide the ring down just a bit on his pinky finger. While Kathy said her friend joked that Steve’s hands are now “pudgy,” Kathy has a gentler answer. “I tell him, ‘Oh honey, maybe it shrunk in the water,’” she said.

My friend Mary Drops in With a Birthday Sign

When it comes to spirits, there's no such thing as a coincidence. I say that in all of my books

. I also note that spirits like to say hello around birthdays, anniversaries and holidays, and that's exactly what my friend Mary L of New Hampshire did last night (Oct. 10).

Mary and I befriended each other several years ago when she invited me to give a fundraising lecture for the Lakes Region Humane Society in Ossipee, NH. She passed last year, 2019. Now, a year later, she's contacted me from Spirit around a special date.

Mary was organizing events and heard about me through her connections with the Animal Rescue of Rhode Island (where I have done events over the last 4 years). She contacted me and I flew to NH and gave the lecture and we bonded.

Over the last couple of years, Mary and her husband came down to Maryland and we met over a meal, joined by Celeste and Mark, whom I also befriended. In Sept. 2019, Mary passed away after a battle with illness. LIttle memorial cards were made with her smiling face and a beautiful saying was on the back of the card.

I placed the memorial card in one of many journals that I use whenever I go on trips or paranormal investigations so I catalog my experiences. After a while I couldn't remember where I had placed it, but Mary wanted me to find it to let me know she's around.

On Oct. 10th I took part in a paranormal investigation where we had to cross over an Earthbound ghost who lingered in someone's backyard (a story for another time). Before leaving I looked through a couple of my journal books and put several down before feeling like I picked the right one (that had just enough room to write about one investigation). Now I know that Mary was guiding my choice.

That evening after I got home from the event, I started typing up the day's experience. I put the book down in my chair for a moment, and Mary's memorial picture card mysteriously make its way out of it and on the chair. When I picked up the card, I said, " Mary why are you coming to me today.?"

My answer came when I looked at the card. Her birthday and passing dates were written on the front of the card. The next day, Oct. 11, was her birthdate. Mary wanted to let me know that she is very much around all of us who love her. I immediately texted our mutual friend Celeste, who, like me was overwhelmed and grateful for Mary's sign.

In the News: Discount store in the UK Criticized for Selling Dangerous Ouija boards For 1 pound ($1.30 U.S.)

This week, Julie Tetley, a U.K. Medium rightly criticized a UK Discount store for selling Ouija boards cheaply for Halloween. As a paranormal investigator, we've been on several investigations where people used them in homes and accidentally invited in dark energies, and in some cases, it make several people physically sick (you can read about it in my book "Case Files of Inspired Ghost Tracking" available on Amazon).
This medium accepts the board is merely a tool, she says it encourages people to 'open up their energies' and communicate with spirits - some more 'sinister' than others. She claimed people should leave the so-called 'game' well alone as she believes the evil spirits can lead to suicides among those they 'attach' to. Here's the story>>

Clairvoyant blasts 'irresponsible' Poundland for selling £1 OUIJA boards for Halloween gatherings

A medium has blasted U.K.'s Poundland store chain  as being 'utterly irresponsible' for flogging ouija boards for Halloween. Clairvoyant Julie Tetley claims the devices can 'destroy people's lives' and 'spirits can cause suicides'. She fears she will be 'busy in the next couple of months' dealing with the fall-out from people dabbling in the dark arts by inadvertently summoning sinister spirits using the £1 prop.

The 64-year-old medium was horrified to discover the boards, a firm favourite in horror movies, were being sold as a Halloween decoration in the Scarborough branch of the store.

Although Julie accepts the board is merely a tool, she says it encourages people to 'open up their energies' and communicate with spirits - some more 'sinister' than others.

She claimed people should leave the so-called 'game' well alone as she believes the evil spirits can lead to suicides among those they 'attach' to.

Poundland is selling its Spirit Board for £1 nationwide as part of its 'Creepy Town' Halloween displays.

Sale of the product is restricted to over 18s and the product is labelled 'for adults only'.

Julie, from Scarborough, said: 'It's totally and utterly irresponsible for Poundland to be selling this, it's horrendous.

'Children will buy them, they just want fun. They see it on TV, they don't understand what they're doing, it can destroy their lives in every way.

'It can bring negative influences around you all the time. They need to know the intent of using these boards is to speak to the spirit. A medium all her life, Julie said that those untrained in energies may find themselves at the mercy of 'unscrupulous' characters looking to take advantage of them.

Julie said: 'You get people who were unscrupulous, people who would take advantage and people who were very very sinister here and you get the same in spirits.

'Their personality is still who they are [in spirit form].

'If a darker energy attaches itself to someone who's naive they can just take advantage - they can cause stress and worry.

'They'll give them information that's right then all of a sudden this board will spell out something like there's going to be a fatal accident or one of your parents is going to be killed.

'They'll say something horrendous and have that person worried because the other things they've given have been true.

'It can cause a lot of stress, the spirit can start to manipulate through their mind - giving them bad thoughts and giving them thoughts of suicidal tendencies.

'It can almost cause suicide in the long-term so it's very, very dangerous.'

Concerned Julie said spirits summoned through a ouija board can cause lingering problems for years to come and advises people to avoid using them.

(Above; Case Files of Inspired Ghost Tracking by Rob Gutro has several cases of Ouija board use that led to some dark entity problems. Available on Amazon.com)

Julie said: 'Time's nothing to spirits, they can lie dormant for years and suddenly surface.

'Like Einstein said 'you cannot destroy energy, it just changes form'. My advice is to steer clear of ouija boards.

'I know people are interested around Halloween as they want to do what they call 'spooky' things, it's certainly not for the faint-hearted.

'They should leave it well alone and do something else.'

The item appeared to have been removed from Poundland's website, however the brand backed the device and joked about how the spirits would simply be stunned by the low price.

A Poundland spokesman said: 'Poundland is the home for Halloween and the Spirit Board is part of this year's extensive Halloween Decoration range.

The Ghost Town of Hanton City, Smithfield, Rhode Island

Foundation remains of Hanton City. Credit: Smith Appleby House
There are a lot of haunted places in New England, but this blog isn't about a haunted place.

It's actually about a Ghost Town called Hanton City in Smithfield, Rhode Island;

THE PROVIDENCE JOURNAL INVESTIGATES THE GHOST TOWN- In a Oct 31, 2019 article by Paul Edward Parker, Providence Journal Staff Writer, the reporter was assigned to investigate a town that disappeared in Rhode Island. He was able to dig up an interview of a resident from 1889, when the town of Smithfield still existed.

THE 1889 INTERVIEW -In 1889, a writer who did not receive a byline also journeyed from Providence to Smithfield, which required taking a train and a horse-drawn carriage. After finding a local guide to lead the way through the woods, the Journal writer interviewed Tom Hanton, who still lived, with his unidentified sister, on the edge of Hanton City in a one-room shanty. He was described in an Oct. 6, 1889, story as “the last of the Hantons.” Born around 1809 and about 80 years old at the time of the interview, Hanton told the reporter that his town “was a lively and enterprising place, when he was young.”

The inhabitants worked in stone quarries and made shoes by hand, taking them to Providence to sell at the market. But, the quarry closed and factories full of machines took over the making of shoes, driving the residents of Hanton out of their occupations. Thinking About Downsizing? Ad By Charles Schwab See More “They had all got poor, and sold out to anybody, and died off,” Tom Hanton told The Journal.

SMITHFIELD'S ORIGIN- A local historian, Jim Ignasher is the author of the 2009 book “Remembering Smithfield: Sketches of Apple Valley,” in which he devoted a chapter to two “vanishing villages,” with most of that chapter about Hanton City.

Based in part on research by other historians, Ignasher concluded that Hanton City was first settled by three English families — the Paines, Hantons and Shippees — who possibly were given the land as payment for service in King Philip’s War, which lasted from 1675 to 1676. And that pretty much puts an end to the theories that Hanton City was founded by runaway slaves or exiled Tories or plague victims.

In the news: Ghost hunters capture 'chilling' images of England's 'lost queen'

Here's an article that appeared in Sept 2020 from the United Kingdom's Lincolnshire Live newspaper:

Ghost hunters capture 'chilling' images of England's 'lost queen'

A group of ghost hunters claim they have managed to capture photographs of what they believe is the spirit of one of history's lost monarchs. The Retford Ghost Hunters claim to have captured one of their members coming face-to-face with a chilling apparition at the historic Rufford Abbey in Sherwood Forest last week.

The group believe they encountered the renowned White Lady of Rufford who, according to legend, is believed to be the spirit of ill-fated Arbella Stuart. Arabella was tipped to take the throne before she found herself at the centre of a political wrangling which saw her banished to the Tower of London. The great, great granddaughter of Henry VII and the niece of Mary Queen of Scots' eventually died of starvation in 1615.

The ghostly figure was captured during a ghost hunt which was streamed on Facebook Live. The "White Lady of Rufford" appears to be standing face to face with Rachel (Image: © Retford Ghost Hunters / SWNS) Group leader Rachel Parsons said: "I couldn't believe it when I looked up the history of the place the next day. "The first thing that came up was the White Lady Of Rufford. She's been spotted there quite a few times by all accounts.

It was about 11pm inside the ruins when we all heard a woman's cough so I ran towards the direction of it with my torch.

"I then sensed something on the spot where I was and I said to the others: 'She's standing right in front of me'.

At that point I told our viewers watching the live stream on Facebook to get screenshotting because I knew she was there. "It was only when we got back home and a viewer sent the screen grab that I discovered how close I was to her. "People have said it looks like a horror movie poster but I was just delighted to get such compelling evidence of what could be the famous White Lady of Rufford."

The 48-year old said she only until she researched the history of the 12th century abbey that she uncovered the story of it being haunted by the White Lady of Rufford. But the White Lady wasn't the only ghostly spectre captured that night; spooky images showing a face at a doorway where also captured, which the ghost hunters believe could be the spirit of one of the monks who resided at the abbey.

See Ghost Sketches in New Book, "Case Files of Inspired Ghost Tracking"

A new book called "Case Files of Inspired Ghost Tracking," by best-selling paranormal author Rob Gutro takes readers on paranormal investigations into private and historic homes where ghosts were traumatizing families. Rob, a medium in the Inspired Ghost Tracking paranormal group, announced the release of his seventh paranormal book that brings readers along on investigations and reveals some bizarre and shocking things the group found and how they helped the ghosts and families.
TO BUY ON AMAZON: https://tinyurl.com/yba6ofbj

"When earthbound ghosts have traumatized families in their own homes, Inspired Ghost Tracking (IGT) of Maryland has gone in to cross them over," Gutro said. "Every case is different, too. Some have had earthbound ghosts that were friendly, others were not. IGT experienced a lot of bad energies that caused people to become physically sick or mentally traumatized. IGT investigators had to figure who, what, when and why things were happening, to finally bring peace to the living and the dead."

In this collection of IGT cases, you’ll read about the "Burned Ghost," ghosts of two different time periods in one home, dark things that Ouija boards brought into homes, a very haunted Maryland mansion, many ghosts of Baltimore’s Federal Hill, a ghostly attachment, a Steelworker’s ghost, poltergeist activity, the famous IGT “Double Murder Ghost Investigation” and many more.

You'll find answers to questions like why ghosts choose to stay in a place, the differences and similarities between ghosts and spirits, why energy is the key to the paranormal and much more.

Although Rob has become known as a "Pet Medium" through the success of his best-selling books "Pets and the Afterlife" and "Pets and the Afterlife 2," he also connects with human earthbound ghosts and spirits.

Gutro is the first in the paranormal field to make the distinction between earthbound ghosts and spirits who have crossed over. Rob has three books about his experience with human ghosts and spirits, called "Ghosts and Spirits," "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead," and "Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation," and most recently, "Kindred Spirits: How a Medium Befriended a Spirit."

Rob Gutro has been featured in the Washington Post and nationally syndicated radio programs like "Coast to Coast AM." Rob is a volunteer with Dachshund and Weimaraner rescues and gives fundraising lectures for animal rescues around the U.S., teaching grieving pet parents how pets communicate from the afterlife.
