BEHIND THE SCENES: How a Self-Published Author does Book Self-Promotions- a Massive Mailing

How I'm putting together my mailing list

Being a self published author, it's all up to me and only me to promote my books and make
people aware of them. There are many things I do, and it's a LOT of work. In fact, it's more work to promote a book than write it. This week, I've been making mailing lists for promotional post cards. I've been doing this project since August 2019. Here's what it's about>>
THINGS TO DO TO PROMOTE YOUR BOOKS-   I do things like put together my own press package: a press release announcing the new book, a headshot photo, bio, and cover of the book. Then pay press release services to distribute them. I also contact internet radio shows based on the subject matter (you can google it for your book topics if you're a writer). But I also schedule lectures, book fairs, and have gone to animal-related events (for my 2 Pets and the Afterlife books).
PROMOTIONAL POST CARDS -  I create promotional post cards and bring them to events to hand out (with website, order, social media info, and book photos).
MY YEARS-LONG MASS MAILING PROJECT -  But I've also decided to let veterinarians around the U.S. know about those books to help grieving pet parents. So, I created a post card to let them know. I wrote a note to veterinarians on one side, and had pictures of my books on the front with a summary. I had several thousand printed (yes, it's expensive, but I take it out of what little I make on the books - which is less than $1.00 for a $10 book).

HOW I AM DOING IT -  Putting the list together is exhausting. (Yes, I looked into buying a list of veterinarians across the USA, but the cost of the lists were between $2,000 and $5,000 and I don't have that kind of money in my author-only savings account).  SO, I google the most populated cities in EACH state. Then google "veterinarians in XXXX, Michigan."  Usually, for major cities there are hundreds of them. So it takes hours for each city. As I click through them I type addresses in alpha order to avoid duplication. I print the pages on huge label sheets, cut  up and affix them and post card stamps on the post cards. It's a HUGE project- it's taken years, but I work on it between writing my next books.
BOTTOM LINE -    So, being a self-published author is a LOT OF WORK. - If you know a self-published author, word of mouth helps so tell people about their books.
YOU CAN HELP A SELF-PUBLISHED AUTHOR! -  As for those who have read "Pets and the Afterlife" and "Pets and the Afterlife 2" -please, please tell your friends, co-workers and acquaintances about the books if they have pets. And PLEASE tell your veterinarians. My books are Less than $10 paperback and less than $3.99 Ebook (Much less than the others on the market) and both have been and continue to be best-sellers on Amazon.
   So, if you write a book, be prepared to promote it. That's the hardest part!- - Rob

Paranormal Q&A: What causes a spirit to linger in this realm? How common is this?

Each week, I'll answer a question about the paranormal, whether a general question, or one about human or animal ghosts (Earthbound) or spirits (crossed over). Here's this week's question: 

Q: What causes a spirit to linger in this realm? How common is this?

A: Ghosts are the entities who choose to remain Earthbound. Spirits have crossed over into the light. I made that distinction in my breakthrough book "Ghosts and Spirits" because they're not the same. It's "Location, location, location." 

As for what "causes" people's or a pet's ghost to linger in this realm - it's actually personal choice!    Some people stay to try and "help" grieving family members (but Ironically they can only do this if they cross over and become a spirit), or they may have unfinished business... or they may be seeking forgiveness for something they did to hurt someone. Or if they're deeply religious, they may fear the other side (because we have an awakening when we die, which is a life review of all good and bad things we've done).

There are many more reasons, but it's an individual choice. My advice to everyone - Cross Over ASAP!  Lingering as a ghost is like living in an eternal purgatory of sorts because they can't speak to spirits, and only a medium (who is needed to cross them over).

It isn't common for people to stay as ghosts. I would say that 95% cross over. Paranormal investigators and mediums are called to help the other 5% cross (because for some reason, after they're a ghost for a short time, they lose the ability to cross over).

Paranormal Community Loses a Man to COVID19- His Warning to You

   Despite living during a pandemic, there are sadly still people who refuse to listen to the doctors and scientists and wear face coverings. Recently, the paranormal community in Ohio lost one of its own, sadly, for those reasons. His warning to all of the paranormal community and the world is to understand that COVID19 can mean life or death for you or those you love.  
  Unfortunately, conservative media like Fox News continues to tell viewers that COVID19 is a hoax. Sadly, people believe them at the cost of their lives and other's lives. Tragically, this Veteran and paranormal investigator believed them and it led to his death. (I don't know him, btw).

  Now his family and friends will never know his smile again. His cats are without a dad. The military lost a former soldier. The paranormal community has lost a colleague.
   Please, please listen to scientists and doctors to Save YOUR life and the Lives of many Others. 
   Here's what the newspaper in Ohio ran about this man (I have excluded the information about his family for privacy reasons, although it is in the obituary):

Richard Donald Rose, III, 37, of Port Clinton passed away Saturday, July 4, due to complications of Covid-19 at his home. He was born July 25, 1982 in Port Clinton. He graduated from Port Clinton High School. He served his country in the United States Army for nine years serving two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He enjoyed social media, online streaming, paranormal and his two cats Dale and Tucker. He was a fan of NASCAR, Dirt Track Racing and Georgia Bulldogs Football.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Port Clinton, Ohio where visitation was held Tuesday. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be given to the family.

Paranormal Q&A: What is one of the most astonishing things you have experienced in your career?

Each week, I'll answer a question about the paranormal, whether a general question, or one about human or animal ghosts (Earthbound) or spirits (crossed over). Here's this week's question: 

Q: What is one of the most astonishing things you have experienced in your career?

A: It's difficult to pinpoint one thing. In short, a couple of contacts and messages that stand out are my dad's spirit communicating at his wake and funeral (where I proved to my family I was talking with him); a paranormal investigation that turned into a double murder investigation where we found 2 ghosts in a home, the many signs and messages from my dog Buzz in spirit (who inspired me to write my first book), a dog named Buddy who gave me details about his favorite place overseas including his grandmother's name and pronunciation!  

Most recently was the ghost of George Boleyn who walked me around a castle in England (in my latest book).  - Really, every message is amazing to me because it takes so much effort and energy for a spirit or ghost to convey them.

Bryan's Spirit Makes the Pick

Thanks to everyone for subscribing to my blog. Although the contest to win a free E-book of your choice is over, there will be another!
    The winner of the e-book contest is Patty R. and as it turned out, she had help in winning from the spirit of her son Bryan.     As I have explained in my books, there's no such thing as a coincidence, and spirits come around on birthdays, anniversaries or holidays to let us know they are around.
   Patty's son Bryan came around on the anniversary of his passing to let her know he's still very much around. Here's the story:

Patty said that she never wins anything. But this time she had her son Bryan's spirit on her side.
  She wrote me and told me, "My son is in spirit and I’d like to think he had a hand in helping me win this book as a little kindness, a pick me up if you will. His death along with his boyfriend and one friend is coming up on 3 years 7/13/17. The person who killed all 3 of our boys was driving down an interstate highway on the wrong side going over a 100 mph."

When I received Patty's email, the way I choose her email all suddenly made sense. I realized that it was Bryan who made me pick her email.

WHAT HAPPENED - I have a list of emails from everyone who requested to get the blogs via email. So, I picked a number. As I started counting down the list, I kept hearing in my head, "give the book to the person after that number you choose." I thought, "Okay, that's a message from someone for some reason." That person was Patty.

HOW DO I KNOW IT WAS BRYAN? Given that it's a week out from the anniversary of Bryan's passing, I now know whose voice that was because spirits usually give signs they are around within 2 weeks before or after an anniversary. In this case, it was the anniversary of his passing.

   He influenced me to choose his mom, so she would know she won the book because he helped out!   

   Patty said it was okay for me to share this great sign, and she sent me some great photos of Bryan and his boyfriend, both of whom are together forever in spirit.

By the way, I was so taken with how Bryan influenced me that I forgot to mention that Patty chose my book Ghosts of England on a Medium's Vacation

Paredolia: A Ghost Dog on a Grave?

A  video posted on social media really makes you stop and stare at what looks like the ghost of a dog standing on it's grave!  It turns out to be Paredolia. Today's blog will tell you what that is and show you the video

 

WHAT IS PAREDOLIA? Pareidolia (/pærᵻˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-DOH-lee-ə) is a psychological phenomenon in which the mind responds to a stimulus (an image or a sound) by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists. It's like seeing a face in a cloud.

In the video, it turns out that it was two bunches of flowers that from a certain angle actually looks like a dog.

DIY Prophacks published the video he took of what looked like a ghost dog. He said "I was riding by this pet cemetery and thought for sure there was a dog standing on this grave. Turns out it was just an optical illusion created by these dead flowers. I hope it came out ok on camera. RIP Kosmo. I never knew you but you made my day a little more interesting. No disrespect intended toward the dog or it's owners."
