What are Rob's “Pets and the Afterlife” Books About?

Several people have asked what my "Pets and the Afterlife" books 1 and 2 are about. Today's blog provides an

an explanation, and how they help promote healing after losing a furry family member.

“Pets and the Afterlife” Books Bring Comfort to Grieving Pet Parents

The love we share with our pets never dies, and there's proof that our pets do communicate with us from the other side, just as people do who pass. Rob Gutro, a scientist, medium, author and paranormal investigator has had many experiences with ghosts and spirits of both pets and people. He has published two best-selling books about how pets communicate from the afterlife, and has become known as a pet medium. He lectures and does fundraisers for animal rescues where he teaches people how to recognize signs from their pets in spirit.

Rob said, “Pet parents like me think about and mourn the loss of their pets often. Every day I miss my dogs Franklin, Buzz and Sprite.” Why do we mourn the passing our pets as we would the passing of a person? Because we brought them up as we bring up human children. We taught them how to go to the bathroom, bathed them, groomed them, took them to (obedience) school and was excited at their graduation, watch them interact with others, take them to the doctor when they're sick, play with them, watch them make friends, learn and love. They share with us love, anger, fear, and excitement, just like human children do.

Since Rob is a scientist (meteorologist) in his career job, he uses energy as the foundation of his explanations for spirit communication. He also references Dr. Stanley Coren, a doctor of veterinary medicine and renowned author, who has tested dogs and proved many have the intelligence of a 3 to 5 year old child. Rob explains how dogs and cats learn on many different levels, which enables them, as spirits, to communicate with the living.

“I tell people that the only difference between human children and our pets is that our dogs and cats don't have careers, marry someone we don't care for, and move out! To me, my dogs are my children as I will not have human children. I am responsible for feeding, caring, loving, exercising, playing with and keeping them healthy. Unfortunately, because dogs and cats generally don’t live often longer than 15 years, that means we have to make the decision to help them achieve a peaceful final rest.”

Rob’s books explain many of the ways that pets provide their parents messages to let them know their spirits are still very much around. It is through recognition of these signs that grieving pet parents can take solace and help work through their grief.

Some of the ways that pets can give us messages include noises, like a bark or a meow, or hearing their nails walk across the floor. Some cat parents have reported their cat's spirit has jumped on their beds and curled up as they did in the physical form. Spirits can also manipulate things in nature like birds, butterflies, feathers, etc. on special dates.  There are many other ways spirits communicate, and you’ll learn of them in Rob’s books. Human spirits will also help them with more complicated messages.

Rob wrote the books "Pets and the Afterlife" and "Pets and the Afterlife 2" to bring comfort to people (like himself) who lost a pet.  As a scientist, it was important to receive confirmations of the messages he got from spirit pets, and those are included. The books also include amazing new scientific studies that prove our pets have emotions and personalities. There's also science behind why living pets can sense entities.

Rob says, “Remember that the love that we share with our pets binds them to us ‘fur-ever.’"

Paranormal Q&A: Do you ever get hired from someone in the spirit realm?

Each week, I'll answer a question about the paranormal, whether a general question, or one about human or animal ghosts (Earthbound) or spirits (crossed over). Here's this week's question: 

Q: You have clients in the human world that hire you to talk to their loved ones, do you ever get hired from someone in the spirit realm?

A: I actually don't have clients in the human realm, because I don't accept money for any short readings I give (and I have given countless readings via email since 2010!). But to answer your other question, people and pets in the spirit realm (or earthbound ghosts) "hire" me all the time to pass along messages. Ghosts usually want help to cross over (because once they decided to stay, they're stuck for some reason). Spirits who have crossed usually want to let their loved ones know they're very much still around.

Spirit cat returns to train new kitten

Recently I received an email from Elizabeth, with whom I communicated after her cat, Chili passed.
She wrote me to let me know that she's been seeing signs from Chili in spirit, through the actions of her new kitten, Trixie. In my books, Pets and the Afterlife and Pets.... 2, I explain how pets in spirit will come back to "train" our new pets to do some action or habit that they used to have in their time in the physical. That proves that their spirits are around. Here's Elizabeth's email:

 Hope you and your family are safe and well.  I was thinking about your kind words about my cat chili and wanted to give you an update

I adopted a 2lb kitten a few months after chili's death  her name is trixie and she has fit in so well with everyone in the house, including my dog 

She favorites all the spots that chili liked and recently has been doing a little hop in the air when she turns around exactly like chili  i know her spirit is in the home and is showing herself in these ways  i thank you again for helping me recognize these signs  they are of great comfort

Things I Learned from my Mom (on what would have been her 92nd birthday)

Today would have been my mom's 92nd birthday, and I thought i would look back at the 
things that I learned from her. It also would have been my parents' 65th wedding anniversary, so I'll highlight some of my dad's influences, too. Read on! 

My mom, Norma G. (Tutela) Gutro was born in 1928. At age 85, passed quietly from this life on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. 

Norma was born in East Boston and spent the majority of her life in Quincy. A devoted mother and homemaker, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-three years, Edward, also known as "Buddy," in 2008. 

Norma loved dogs, especially her late poodle, Gigi, and cocker spaniel, Penny. That's where I got my love of dogs - actually from both Mom and Dad. Of course, both mom and dad loved our kids, Dolly, Franklin, Tyler, and the late Sprite  (but mom and dad never met Dash, who came to us after mom passed). Dad never met Sprite on this side, but he was there at the Vet's office in Spirit when Sprite passed, and he let me know (you can read about it in my book "Pets and the Afterlife" on Amazon). Dad also never met Tyler, because we adopted him as a pup the year after Dad passed.

Mom was an avid seamstress, making her own clothes, draperies and bedding and she made shirts and halloween costumes for me and Doug. She also painted Winnie the Pooh scenes on our bed sheets, so when you folded them over, you'd see the scene. 

She loved to draw and paint, and she taught me how to sketch as a kid. My dad bought me comic books and inspired me to read. Dad was never without a paperback novel in his hands, either, much like I am today. He loved to read, and since my mom always loved to make him wait a long time while she got ready to go out, or while shopping, he did a lot of reading. Together, their influence has carried forth in me today as I still read comic books and do sketches of ghosts when on paranormal investigations (sketches that have appeared in my books). As a kid, I used to write and draw my own comic books.  

Mom's other past times and interests included bowling, cooking and baking, gardening, playing cards, entertaining and taking long walks. 

Mom and Dad taught me how to bowl - and since we lived in Massachusetts, it was always "candlepin" bowling, and later we would do the duckpin bowling. 

Mom also taught me how to bake, and she and I would make and design cakes together. I still love to bake. As a 100% Italian, mom loved to cook, too. She used to tell me to watch her and learn, and I did. Even today, my favorite meal is pasta with my mom's homemade spaghetti sauce (which I make in a crockpot, instead of stirring it all day on a warm stove, as she did). 

I didn't get the gardening gene, but fortunately, my hubby Tom has it. I used to love to play cards on Sunday nights with mom, dad and my brother Doug (and my grandma before she passed). Of course, I got the entertaining gene and love taking daily, long dog walks! 

Mom and dad also loved to ballroom dance and took many trips together, too. I took up country line dancing back in the 1990s and even won a few contests, and of course, Tom and I love to travel.

So, I learned a LOT from mom and dad, and think about them whenever I do any of these things. As a medium, mom and dad have both come through to me a lot, always letting me know they are around. In addition, Tom seems to like to channel my mom and says some of the crazy things she used to say!  So, our parents may no longer be with us in the physical world, but they're truly around in things we do and in spirit.
