Great book for the grief stricken January 13, 2020
I liked this book a lot. It really helped me think of my kitty who passed in a more positive way, knowing she is in the afterlife veil and is still with me. It brings great comfort. I know she will return to me one day in a new kitty body!

My New book is available in paperback and E-book! : Kindred Spirits: When a Medium Befriends a Spirit went live on Sunday, July 21, 2019!

It's about how a spirit has connected with me so much over the last 14 years that he's become like a best friend.  Here's the Interesting part: I never met him in life!  He died in 1996.  - It will be available on Amazon.com for just $6.99 paperback and $3.49 Kindle...   - Rob Gutro

Kindred Spirits: When a Medium Befriends a Spirit
ABOUT THE BOOK

It's uncommon for a medium really get know a spirit so well that the living person considers the spirit a best friend. But that's exactly what happened to medium and paranormal investigator Rob Gutro. When Rob met his partner Tom in 2005, Ed's spirit came along for the ride. Rob never knew Ed in life, but Tom did. Now, Ed often communicates to Rob and has revealed his sense of humor, his heart, and helped solved the mystery of his passing. Ed's "Spirit Treasure Hunt" showed his family he's with them, too. Ed even sent a look-alike to rescue Rob during a vacation in England. As you read about this special spirit named Ed and his sometimes funny communications, you'll learn signs your loved ones send. This book will teach you how to be more aware of messages from your loved ones in spirit.

"Being a friend with Ed in spirit is like having a friend who lives in another state" - Author Rob Gutro describing his relationship with Ed's spirit.

The 2 1/2 hour Interview: Pets and the Afterlife On Late Night in the Midlands

On January 30th, I enjoyed interviewing with Michael Vara, host of the Radio program "Late Night in the Midlands." We covered basics in paranormal, defined ghosts vs. spirits, and got into how pets communicate from the afterlife (based on my 2 books). In the last hour, Michael took a couple of callers who had interesting questions for me. My interview began about 33 minutes into the 3 hour show. You can hear it (and watch Michael) here: https://youtu.be/vmltZxkJMUA

6 Things to say to people experiencing grief

Sometimes it's really difficult to know what to say to people who are grieving the loss of a loved one whether it be
a person or pet who passed. Whenever I give my lectures, everyone in the room is grieving for someone. As a medium, finding things to say is a bit easier for me, because I sometimes get messages from spirit at the right time, but for those who don't, I thought this article would help you respond.
Another way you can help them get through their grief is to teach them how spirits communicate from the other side, and how they can recognize signs. That's what my books are about! - So, for people grieving a person, send them "Ghosts and Spirits" or "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead." If they're grieving a pet, send them "Pets and the Afterlife" or "Pets and the Afterlife 2" by Rob Gutro

Now, here are the Six Helpful Things You Can Do/Say if Someone You Know Is Grieving:

  1. Ask, "How are you doing?" Then listen patiently to the answer without changing the subject or terminating the conversation. Create a safe space for them to talk about their experience if they would like to. You might feel honored that they trusted you enough to give an honest answer if it's something other than "Fine."
  2. Say that you just found out about their loss. Rather than the obligatory "I'm sorry for your loss," or "I'm sorry that your marriage didn't work out for you," try this instead: "I can't imagine what this is like for you," followed by "How are you doing?" Everyone's grief is different. Even if you've experienced loss, you don't know how they feel. Let them tell you about it in their own words.
  3. Stay away from offering clichés like, "You were lucky to have the time you had," "She's with the angels now," etc. It doesn't help to have you try to rationalize away someone's grief. If you're not sure what to say, go back to tip #2 above.
  4. "I'd like to help. Would you like me to __________?" Insert specific tasks that you are willing to do that you think might be helpful. You could suggest something like "mow the lawn, walk the dog, watch the baby, sit with you, help you clear the garage," etc. Then show up and do it if the answer is "Yes." Try to avoid the offhand, "Let me know if there is anything I can do for you." No one believes you really mean it and that puts the burden on the griever to think of something for you to do. They don't have the energy for that.
  5. When someone cries in front of you, all you have to do is stay put and say something in a soothing voice like, "It's OK....let that out....I'm here for you." Comforting them with a touch on the arm or a hug is great too. Just do your best to stay present and don't try to "fix" it. Don't hand them a tissue unless they ask for it. The tears will come to a natural completion of their own accord.
  6. Do your best to keep your relationship intact. Avoiding a grieving person because it's uncomfortable for you to be with them is hard for them. You can imagine the feelings of isolation they would be feeling if everyone in their lives reacted this way. It's OK to say the name of the person that is gone. It's OK to ask what happened. It's OK to talk about the strangeness of it all. It's even OK to cry in front of them or with them. Your silence and avoidance is what's really painful.
People experiencing grief crave feeling heard, seen, understood. They need to know that they aren't alone. Know that your love and empathy will go a long way towards supporting a grieving person in their deepest time of need. Know that they would do it for you, too.

Soul 101: What is a Soul? Animals and People Have Souls

It seems that some people really don't have a good idea about what a "soul" really is - so today's blog will explain a "Soul 101" and help you understand what it means, and that every living thing has one as I describe in my books.

WHAT IS A SOUL? In many societies and religions it is the immortal essence of a living thing. A soul is actually the energy in EVERY living thing that combines memories and personalities.
DO ANIMALS HAVE SOULS?  Of course. Every living thing has a soul. To think otherwise is crazy. Animals (and dinosaurs) lived and died on Earth long before humans ever showed up. They survived because they had intelligence, instinct, emotions, memories, and their own personalities. After all, what makes one animal a pack leader and not all of them? Why are some animals shy? easily frightened? bold? challenging? That's personality. They all have it, just as humans do.
WHO QUESTIONS IT AND WHERE DID THE CRAZY IDEA COME FROM? According to most of the Abrahamic religions, only human beings have immortal soulsEvangelical-Biblical Literalist, Baptists and Church of Christ churches believe animals have no soul.
All living things have souls

Recently, the catholic faith even proclaimed that "Animals and plants" have souls  - but they put a "limit" on their statement thinking pets don't have conceptual intelligence, which I assure you, THEY DO.
Why the Catholic faith (the one I grew up in and out of) thinks anything but people can be spirit is non-sensical. A spirit is a spirit. Period. That's like thinking because you have a college degree you'll be a spirit, but your neighbor who didn't go to college isn't smart enough to be a spirit in the afterlife. Do you see why it is a ridiculous argument?

I'm unsure where that belief came from but as you can see from the logic above, it's absolutely untrue. Any living thing that can figure out how to survive, from a bird to an ant to wild boar has a soul. They have intelligence and a soul. Only ZOMBIES are soul-less. :)

DOES ANY  RELIGION BELIEVE ANIMALS HAVE SOULS?  Yes. Sikhism, Hinduism, Orthodox, Mormonism believe (and understand that animals have souls.  Islam and Judaism have conflicting beliefs- some sects believe it, others do not.  But religions were developed to help explain the afterlife, and some get bits and pieces correct, while others do not. There is no "correct" religion. Just remember it's all about energy and spirituality.

BOTTOM LINE: For anyone who loses a pet and says "Animals don't have souls" please assure them they do, and they will be with us in paradise/other side/heaven/Valhalla, whatever you want to call it where all of the energies reside after the physical life is over. To think that any living thing doesn't have a soul is truly ridiculous. Animals have lived eons before mankind ever walked the Earth and they would never have survived if they couldn't think, feel and learn.

Paranormal Q&A: What is one of the most astonishing things you have experienced in your career?

Each week, I'll answer a question about the paranormal, whether a general question, or one about human or animal ghosts (Earthbound) or spirits (crossed over). Here's this week's question:

Q: What is one of the most astonishing things you have experienced in your career?

A: It's difficult to pinpoint one thing. In short, a couple of contacts and messages that stand out are my dad's spirit communicating at his wake and funeral (where I proved to my family I was talking with him); a paranormal investigation that turned into a double murder investigation where we found 2 ghosts in a home, the many signs and messages from my dog Buzz in spirit (who inspired me to write my first book), a dog named Buddy who gave me details about his favorite place overseas including his grandmother's name and pronunciation!

Most recently was the ghost of George Boleyn who walked me around a castle in England (in my latest book).  - Really, every message is amazing to me because it takes so much effort and energy for a spirit or ghost to convey them.

Dog Spirit Messages: Bear and Frankie's Birds and Conveyance of Passing

Frankie and Bear with Santa. Credit: Katie R.
I receive emails every week from people who have had to say goodbye to their canine of feline kids, and are looking for some sign that they're okay. I always try to provide a sign or signs and messages from them to provide comfort. Recently, Katie emailed me about her 2 dogs, Bear and Frankie, both of whom recently  passed. Not only did the pinpoint the illnesses they were feeling before they each passed, but they also gave a specific way that they would let their mom know they'd always be around.    Here are the emails between Katie and me:
***************************
FROM KATIE:

Good morning, My name is Katie and a few months ago I lost both my dogs Frankie(Jack Russell) and Bear (Carin Terrier) my heart has never been the same, I miss them every day:(  A friend of mine gave me your books to help my grieving process...thank you!
I've attached a picture of my little guys and wondering if you can tell me are they okay?  I'm having such a hard time getting over losing them and look for signs if they are trying to reach out to me.
 Thank you so very much!

************************************

MY EMAIL REPLY:
Thank you for your email. I'm so sorry about the passing of your canine children. It seems that one passed soon after the others. Did you notice grief in the surviving dog?  They show me that they were always together- and bonded.
Did Frankie have back leg issues? I'm getting the sense of something about his back leg. and Bear is making feel a heaviness in the heart, like heart mumur.
The two of them are together. They were bonded here and are bonded there on the other side. They can hear you around the house when you speak their names or think of them. What's important to know is that they will always be tied to you from love.
They're showing me that they've been sending a small bird, almost like a chickadee (I think that's what it is, I'm not good with bird identification) to come by from time to time and look at you. Because they liked watching birds, they're being funny and telling me that now they get to influence the bird to do what they want (instead of not being able to catch them).
I hope this makes sense to you. Just know they're both very much around you.
Sincerely,
Rob

KATIE'S REPLY

Yes, Frankie near the end was having issues with his back legs giving out on him, and  Bear did suffer heart issues, I just thought it was from all the goodies I fed him…LOLJ

They were never separated, they went to the doctor, groomer, and trips to the park always right next to each other.  I’m happy they are together and hope they are like little puppies running around.

They would sit on the couch together watching out the window for hours at the bird feeder and bird bath in my yard so it’s fitting they would send a bird to check on me.  A few years ago the boys were in the yard and Frankie was in the corner looking at something and when I came out to check on him there was a little injured bird unable to fly, of course I immediately yelled “no Frankie” and he just looked up at me and if he could talk he would have said “I’m not going to hurt this little bird”J He was the most loving dog.  I rescued Bear from and abusive home and after a few months of being naughty he turned out to be the most loving little guy.  Again, thank you for taking the time to email me back.

******************************
MY REPLY:

Thanks for confirming the messages from Frankie and Bear. I'm always amazed how they can share their physical feelings before they passed as a means to identify themselves. They also gave me the specific sign of the little bird as something they enjoyed, to let you know that's how they'll prove they're around!
