WHAT IS THE REFORMATORY? - The Ohio State Reformatory/Mansfield Reformatory is a shuttered prison in Mansfield, Ohio, made famous as the film setting of 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption. Ghost Hunt: Mansfield Reformatory

MANSFIELD, Ohio — “... For when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.”
Enveloped by the disquieting darkness inside a decaying prison cell the size of a large closet, that’s when Friedrich Nietzsche’s famous quote about peering into the soul’s deepest recesses rattled around in my head.
   I was there along with four members of Lake Erie Paranormal, a group of current and retired local law enforcement officers who investigate spectral activity in homes, businesses, and buildings. Along with several others, we were a part of an overnight paranormal “ghost hunt,” if you will, at this supposedly quite haunted facility, which officially closed Dec. 31, 1990.
