Celebrate Pride Month - Read "Kindred Spirits" by Medium Rob Gutro

June is National Pride month, and we celebrate the diversity of the LGBT community. One of my books, "Kindred Spirits," is about how the spirit of a gay man has come through to me for the last 14 years and I've actually befriended him. The book examines the amazing signs he's given to prove he's around, sent a look-alike to save us from being lost in England, and helped solve the mystery around his own death... plus more!

ABOUT THE BOOK:  It's uncommon for a medium really get know a spirit so well that the living person considers the spirit a best friend. But that's exactly what happened to medium and paranormal investigator Rob Gutro. When Rob met his partner Tom in 2005, Ed's spirit came along for the ride. Rob never knew Ed in life, but Tom did. Now, Ed often communicates to Rob and has revealed his sense of humor, his heart, and helped solved the mystery of his passing. Ed's "Spirit Treasure Hunt" showed his family he's with them, too. Ed even sent a look-alike to rescue Rob during a vacation in England. As you read about this special spirit named Ed and his sometimes funny communications, you'll learn signs your loved ones send. This book will teach you how to be more aware of messages from your loved ones in spirit. "Being a friend with Ed in spirit is like having a friend who lives in another state" - Author Rob Gutro describing his relationship with Ed's spirit.

Haunted New England places - Glastenbury, Vermont

Vanished Town of Glastenbury and The Bennington Triangle

Here's the first of several blogs about Haunted New England places. It is one in a series
from the Quincy Mass. Patriot Ledger newspaper. This one is Glastenbury, Vermont.

Glastenbury, Vermont

Tucked into the unforgiving Glastenbury Mountain, Glastenbury was never a particularly popular place, with families settling, then moving in short order.

After the Civil War, the area saw some success as logging businesses moved in and began to cut down the mountain’s vast forests, turning the logs into charcoal. The logging and charcoal industries saw such great success that, by the 1880s, all the mature timber had been cut down and most of Glastenbury’s residents moved on.

Now, the area is known for its spate of hikers disappearing under mysterious circumstances, as well as Bigfoot sightings. However, the hike up the Glastenbury Fire Tower is said to be one of the best in the state, if you dare.

A Few Odd Minutes: Ghostly Cat in Envy Salon! (Rob Explains the Ghost Cat)

There's a Ghost Cat in a beauty salon in Ellicott City, Maryland!  You'll learn about this cat from firsthand interviews in this video in the series "A Few Odd Minutes in Howard County."  A few years ago, I worked with Producer Tony Hoos of Howard County Community College Television studio and was fortunate enough to take part in this video to explain how pets in the afterlife communicate to the living and why the cat may linger. On this episode, we visit a beauty salon with a couple of "permanent" guests. One is a ghost named Catherine and the other is a feline friend that sometimes makes her presence known to the customers.

Over the last couple of years, I've been fortunate to work with Tony Hoos, Television producer at Howard County Community College, who produces historic and sometimes haunted short video specials about the county here in Maryland. There are several of my video interviews on their website that feature the Ghost cat in the Envy Salon, Pets and the Afterlife, and the haunting of the Patapsco Female InstituteIn this 5 minute  video, Tony and his amazing crew take you to explore the Ghost of Trudy at Ellicott City's Manor Hill Tavern!

The Ghost of Manor Hill Tavern

They call her Trudy! On the latest episode of HoCo Stories, the folks who work at Manor Hill Tavern share stories about their interactions with the ghost of Gertrude. Legend has it that Trudy was murdered in the building that was once a stable. Today, she announces her presence by knocking over glasses and playing with the lights. And what about those mysterious scissors? Watch and find out.

Setting the Record Straight: Energy and the Afterlife

Recently, I received an email from Keith who shared something that really troubled me - a comment on a pet loss website, that has caused people distress. In today's blog, you'll learn why, in my experience, it is simply untrue, and it's ALL about Energy. Don't believe everything you read, especially if it upsets you- check it out first with people who have been in the paranormal field for a while. Here's the question:

Keith said:  People post things on the pet loss website and someone posted that the energy decreases over time and they merge into one.

MY EXPERIENCE:     I must say that " energy decreases over time and they merge into one" has never been my experience at all. In fact, I think that's totally untrue.

First from a scientific point, (I'm a scientist after all), energy can't be destroyed, it just changes form.

Second, spirits are energy, but think of them as "low watt" energy, until they're needed or have something they want to tell the living. Then they draw on physical or emotional energies to do that

Third, "merging into one" is ridiculous. Each spirit has its own energy. Sure, they become part of the bigger energies of the cosmos, but they retain their individual personality and energy. That's why they wait for us when we pass.

Haunted New England places - -Hanton City, Smithfield, Rhode Island

Hanton Smithfield Trail Photo
Here's the first of several blogs about Haunted New England places. It is one in a series from the Quincy Mass. Patriot Ledger newspaper. This one is Hanton City, Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Hanton City, Smithfield, Rhode Island In the woods off the Hanton City Trail between Auxiliary Road and DeCotis Farm Road, enterprising explorers may find the remains of Hanton City, once a “lively and enterprising place,” according to Tom Hanton, who was the last of the Hantons to inhabit the town.

Called by such ominous names as “Ghost City” and “Haunted City” and rumored to have been started by a colony of escaped slaves or quarantined plague victims, the origins of Hanton City are actually much more mundane.

According to historians, the area was likely founded by three English families, one of which was the Hantons, who likely received the land as payment for fighting in King Philip’s War. Far from plague victims, the residents worked in nearby stone quarries and made shoes — until the quarries closed and factories made more shoes than they could ever cobble together by hand. Their income dried up and Hanton City’s residents moved on until it was slowly reclaimed by Mother Nature.
