Spirits Visit on Holidays and Special Dates

People who have passed and crossed over become spirits. Those who choose to stay behind on Earth are ghosts. Spirits have the ability to to come to people anywhere in the world, and even come to multiple people at the same time. Whenever the Holidays roll around, they are known to try and pass messages that they're there with the family as well. Just be aware of it.
- Look for pennies or other coins on the ground. Check the year, too- because it has some significance. I was out walking our dogs this week and found a Quarter with the year 1981 on it. That was the year my grandmother passed, so guess who dropped that coin for me? Thanks, Nana.
- Last Thanksgiving, my friend Lynn's brother Michael came to me with messages for her. He told me things I had no idea about, including that they had the same eye color. SO, be vigilant and don't dismiss happenings- our loved ones DO come back during the holidays to say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah." Just be aware that they're around you, too, even if you Don't get see or hear any signs.
Happy Holidays to you and your family!
Rob Gutro

QUESTION: When do spirits  come to us?
ANSWER:  When they have something to tell us. One of those times are usually around holidays, birthdays or anniversaries. Spirits maintain their memories and their personalities when they pass, so, yes, they'll remember your birthday and they'll visit on the holidays.
REPOSTING FROM PREVIOUS BLOG:  ANOTHER EXAMPLE
In fact, recently a week before my birthday I got a wonderful surprise visit from my late Dad, to wish me a happy birthday. After my other half went to work (early), I crawled back into bed and put our three dogs on the bed (one is large). We napped for about 20 minutes, and then I heard my father's voice call my name from what sounded like the kitchen!  All three dogs immediately picked up their heads and looked up, and I responded "yes, I'm here!" (of course, I realized in a second that it was my dad, and no one else was home).
What's cool is that all three dogs ALSO heard him! I also figured out that the reason Dad came to say hello was because my birthday was within a week. Spirits often recognize birthdays and anniversaries!

A Husband's Surprise Visit During a Meditation

A lady in red
On Tuesday, December 6th my partner and I attended a meditation session with some folks from the Ghost Trackers group that we belong to. Meditation is something that I find hard to do, because there's always so much to do and think about in this crazy world. So, our friend Nancy managed a mediation with soft music, candles and guided everyone in the group through a visual trip through a woodland in our minds. It was extremely peaceful. Before we started we were briefly introduced to several people in the room, some of whom we didn't know. One woman had recently lost her husband - and he was about to show up as we were finishing the meditation.
Nancy went around the room after the meditation and asked everyone to share their visual experiences. After everyone finished the group was talking about a couple of things when Nancy noticed I had something to say. I got my tell-tale headache in the back of my head, and I had messages from a man who was standing beside me (in spirit). He directed me to the other woman named "Nancy" in the room. He was her husband. He showed me a bar and restaurant where they were clinking glasses. - Nancy confirmed that they liked to go out and party and have some drinks often. He gave me the names Dean and Derek or something that began with two "D" names. Nancy sat shocked for a minute. His name was Dwayne Douglas, a "Double D"!! The next message Dwayne gave me was that he loves it when Nancy wears the color red. He said it was his favorite color on her. Nancy said "That clinches it! He always said red was his favorite color on me!"
- Dwayne also said that he wanted Nancy to hug her pillow and feel him by her side. He said that it would be like she was hugging him. He was giving me a number of signs so quickly that I couldn't remember them all (I had to wait to tell them), and he wanted me to give Nancy a hug before I left.
 - The other Nancy, who ran the session, mentioned that the widow Nancy was having a really hard time, as her husband passed just 6 months before, and this meant a lot to her.

Another Dog Communicates : Gracie

On Sunday, December 4 at 9:30 pm, I received a text message from my friend Craig that simply said "I'm driving to the vet, and my dog died in the car. I'm a mess." - I tried calling him back to no avail. I didn't know what had happened, because his dog, Gracie is only 5 years old.
  - Because I was getting ready to hop in the shower, I decided to call to Gracie and ask her to tell me what happened. I've communicated with dogs before, so I thought I could connect again.
As I mentioned in my book "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium" (By Rob Gutro), water energy is something that spirits and ghosts use to communicate (in addition to heat, light, emotional energy). In order to prove it was her, Gracie made me experience the feelings she did just before she passed. Suddenly, my right leg got too weak to stand on- and I had to hold myself up and lean against the wall in the shower. I then got a shooting pain to the back of my neck. Gracie told me that her right rear leg had given way and she felt the pain shoot up her back to her neck. She said it was painful for only a short time- and she passed in her dad's (Craig) car on the way to the vet. Gracie also told me that she's with Craig, and that she will watch over him and check on him when she can from the other side. She told me to tell him how grateful she is for him rescuing her from a neighbor that adopted her and then wanted to discard her to a shelter as a pup. Craig learned about the neighbor's mindset and gratefully took Gracie in as his own.
Gracie was a mastiff, and Craig spoiled her. She had different nicknames like "Princess Velvet Face," and "PooNoo." She told me that it was her time, however, and that she felt so loved.
  - I finally got ahold of Craig the next day who told me that the doctor said that Gracie had a fatal neurological disease, which explains the pain and weakness from the rear leg, up the back to the neck.I was astounded. It amazes me how our loving dogs and cats can pass messages to me and prove to their human parents that it is indeed them. My deepest sympathies to Craig- but he should know that Gracie is still around him and love never dies.

Science: Burning corpses could generate electricity

As a scientist, I come across some interesting developments and discoveries. This odd one was forwarded to me. I guess if someone hasn't made much of a contribution to society in life, now they can in death by generating electricity.  (I know, that's bad) - But I did think the article was interesting and thought I'd share it.
Rob

Burning Deceased Baby Boomers Could Generate Electricity
Date: 02 December 2011 Time: 12:47 PM E

In Durham, England, corpses will soon be used to generate electricity. A crematorium is installing turbines in its burners that will convert waste heat from the combustion of each corpse into as much as 150 kilowatt-hours of juice — enough to power 1,500 televisions for an hour. The facility plans to sell the electricity to local power companies.
Some might find this concept creepy. Others might be pleased to learn that the process "makes cremation much greener by utilizing its by-products," in the words of cremation engineer Steve Looker, owner and chief executive officer of the Florida-based company B&L Cremation Systems, which is unaffiliated with the Durham enterprise.
In Europe, tightening regulations on crematorium emissions, coupled with the high price of energy, will lead more and more facilities to go the way of Durham in the future, Looker said. Will crematories in the United States follow suit?
According to Looker, whose company is currently testing different methods of utilizing cremation waste heat, the expensive turbine systems being installed in Durham are not yet economically viable for crematories here. "In the U.S., most crematories don't have enough through-put," he told Life's Little Mysteries, a sister site to LiveScience. "Cremation in some parts of Europe is over 90 percent, but it is not over 50 percent yet here." That is, less than half of Americans opt for cremation. Most are buried.

My Dad Gives 3 Signs

Earlier this month, my partner and I assisted my brother in his local campaign in another state. During those three days I got a couple of messages and help from my Dad (who passed in 2008) to let me know that he was around.
The first two signs happened on the first and second day that we were in town. Right after we checked into the hotel, I found a shiny penny on the floor of the hallway on the way to our room. Pennies and other change are the easiest thing for spirits to drop to give us a sign. It's called an "apport" - when a spirit uses its energy to transport an object from one place to another.
Here's how I KNEW it was my dad. The penny in the hotel was dated 2008. Often, the year on the penny will have some significance to the person that passed. 2008 was the year my Dad passed away, and I sensed he was around when I picked it up. That was a great comfort.
The next day, after running around distributing some 500 flyers for the election we drove back to the hotel. When I parked the car and stepped out, there was another penny on the ground right under my foot! The year was scratched off, though, so I couldn't tell anything more.
The third sign was an amazing feat. First, I always like to think that out of something bad comes something good. This was also the case here. At 11am I received a text message from Southwest Airlines that our 2:55 p.m. flight was canceled! I called the airline and they said in order to get on another flight, we actually had to GO to the airport!
  - So, we finished up delivering coffee and donuts to sign holders in various polling locations,  said goodbye to my brother and family and drove to the airport. After returning the car we went to the ticket counter. It turned out that there was an EARLY flight leaving for home in 20 minutes! The customer service person quickly put us on the plane and we ran for it (with our bags). We actually made it!  - I don't know of anyone whose flight is canceled only to secure a space on an earlier flight. I'm SURE that my dad had something to do with that.
  - As a final act, although I don't know if my dad had anything to do with my brother winning the election, but I do know that he was standing beside my brother when the polls came in announcing his win.

A Message for You? - at the Double Medium Event: "Bandit" calling

On Saturday, October 29, 2011 I had the pleasure of attending and acting as the MC for Barb Mallon's 3rd annual Halloween Double Medium Event, featuring Barb and Medium Charles Filius, and Professional Tarot reader Tim Boyd.

A white dog with a black spot around one eye came to me and told me that he belongs to someone... and wanted to share a message. He kept telling me "Bandit"- as if that were his name (likely because the black spot resembled a mask). I found these two photos on the Internet that resemble the dog that came to me.

He said that he used to run through a wooded area along a stream with a young boy. The boy appeared to have dark colored hair, wearing a brown jacket, and he was Caucasian. He was also wearing some boot shoes. Bandit told me he loved running through the woods with his "boy" and he's still running though the woods and streams on the other side. Bandit misses him, but checks back in from time to time. I know that's not a lot to go on, but I don't know anyone that lives by a stream in a forested area. Does Bandit belong to you?

Signs from Loved Ones: a Dragonfly

I recently gave a talk to a group of kids from age 10 to 13 about ghosts and spirits, and how they communicate with the living. There were about 30 kids and they all paid attention - as it turned out, many of them had encounters with Earth-bound ghosts or spirits (who crossed into the light).
One boy named Dustin had a couple of encounters. When he entered the room I immediately sensed that he has the ability to communicate with those who have passed.
He told me that his grandfather loved dragonflies, and had many dragonfly things in his home. When his grandfather passed away, Dustin would visit his surviving grandmother, and a dragonfly would follow him around. He said that his grandmother felt the dragonfly was his grandfather. The dragonfly isn't necessarily his grandfather- but is influenced by his grandfather's spirit to come by and visit Dustin. Human souls come back as humans later on (insects are of a different level spirit).
Typically children can perceive spirits or ghosts and signs from them- that's because their logical minds have not yet developed to a point of an adult. Logical thinking blocks out signals from the dead, by trying to explain them in the physical world.
It was amazing to talk with the group of kids, and how many are attuned to the spirit world (and yes, most of them watch ghost hunting shows on TV).

What does "Haunted" actually mean?

With Halloween this week, I thought this a great time to address what "Haunted" really means.

I was inspired to answer this when a friend of mine asked about a spirit of someone I love, who has come back to visit from time to time. In my books "Ghosts and Spirits" and "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead" I explain the difference between GHOSTS and SPIRITS.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WE DIE? - The physical energies in living bodies (people or pets) combine with our memories and personalities and we stay on Earth or cross over. That's the difference between a ghost and a spirit.

WHAT ARE SPIRITS? - Spirits have "crossed over," gone to heaven, Valhalla, Paradise or whatever you want to call the other side. Spirits come back from time to time to give us messages, guide us, help us make decisions, protect us, help us learn lessons and let us know that they're still watching over us and love us.

WHEN DO SPIRITS VISIT?  Spirits come from time to time and don't live with us. They visit on Birthdays, Anniversaries and Holidays for the most part) and lets us know he's fine on the other side. Spirits do NOT "Haunt" people. Only ghosts do.

WHO HAUNTS PEOPLE?  -  Haunting is a "ghost-only thing. Here's why:

WHAT ARE GHOSTS? Ghosts are Earth-bound entities.Ghosts usually stay in one place - usually the place they lived (and liked when alive) and are always there, "Haunting" it.  Ghosts stay for a number of reasons, like unfinished business, or perhaps they were mean or evil when living and don't think they deserve to cross over, so they linger trying to get forgiveness. Sometimes they can attach themselves to an object or a person (if the person is very negative, depressed, angry or has any negative emotion).  Earth-bound ghosts are isolated from peace and stuck on Earth in a kind of isolation (hell) - they know of their relatives in spirit but can't communicate with them or cross over until they get what they need (often forgiveness or a medium to cross them over).

Spirits, like Ed, are at peace in the afterlife. So, NOPE, Ed isn't haunting us, just coming back to say hello and "I love you" from time to time - and usually whenever I call him (as any spirit will come back to people and give messages if asked).

Spirit Visits on Birthday and Anniversary Dates

People who have passed and crossed over become spirits. Those who choose to stay behind on Earth are ghosts. Spirits have the ability to to come to people anywhere in the world, and even come to multiple people at the same time.
 - Anyone who has lost a loved one always wants them to come through (almost daily!) and give them messages that they're okay. Even if they've received messages from them before. It's human nature to want to talk with the ones we love. But, spirits are busy on the other side, just as we are here on Earth. SO, when do they come to us?
- The answer is: When they have something to tell us. One of those times are usually around birthdays or anniversaries. Spirits maintain their memories and their personalities when they pass, so, yes, they'll remember your birthday!

Ghosts and Spirits Were Once Human

I watch all of the ghost hunting programs on television and am also part of a group that does investigations. I belong to the "Inspired Ghost Trackers" group and we investigate historic properties, hotels, private residences, etc. when asked.
One thing I notice is that a lot of people seem to forget that ghosts and spirits were once human. They were people like you and me. They may have had a partner, or children, or a dog or cat. They worked for a living. They struggled through life and had celebrations. They went to school. Then, their physical body died, but their energy stayed behind on earth. They became an Earth-bound ghost because they chose to, for forgiveness, unfinished business, or some other reason.
People choose to stay behind as Earth-bound ghosts or move into the light with the other spirit energies. Those who stay behind find themselves trapped here.
In fact, if you ask a ghost hunter the most common thing they pick up on EVPs, you'll hear "Help me." Ghosts are trapped here and need help getting into the light.
So, next time you're on a ghost investigation, tell the ghost to "go into the light." The light to the spirit world can be found in hospitals, funeral homes or cemeteries. Or, if you're knowledgeable, picture the light and try and open a portal yourself. Help ghosts cross over and find peace. That's ultimately what they're looking for -
just imagine yourself being in an isolation cell away from your families (who are spirits that have crossed). You want to be with them, just as earth bound ghosts want to cross into the light and need to join their deceased relatives. So, "Help them!"

Book: "Never Say Goodbye" by medium Patrick Mathews

I'm in the process of reading"Never Say Goodbye" by medium Patrick Mathews. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I'm a developing medium hoping to be at Patrick's level someday. I wrote the book "Ghosts and Spirits Insights from a Medium" about my experiences. I'm a meteorologist, so I try to explain entities using science.
I told Patrick that I found the chapter about suicides very interesting- especially how when people pray for God to "forgive" people for being born gay or lesbian, that it inhibits the gay person from moving forth in the afterlife until their relative understands and accepts the gay person. Fascinating --and totally understandable. God loves all, no exceptions. If only religions would understand that.
The book is filled with interesting readings, and great lessons. I recommend it.

Spouses Passing Soon After Each Other/Waiting for Each Other

Last week a good friend of mine in Florida told me his dad passed away. About 2 months ago, his mom died. This is not uncommon when two people are very much in love and very connected. I've heard it many times. Although the double loss is tremendous, my friend's father is at peace and where he wants to be-with his wife in the afterlife.
Earlier this summer another friend of mine told me about her father, who lay ill in a hospital for a couple of months. His wife had passed back in the 1990s and he soldiered on, living for his children and grandchildren. My friend told me that her dad seemed to be talking to someone as he lay slowly dying over the last 2 weeks of his life- so I asked her to ask her dad if he was talking with his wife (spirit). She asked and he replied that he was indeed talking with his wife's spirit. He said she was in the hospital room with him. This is very common. Whenever someone is close to physical death, their loved ones (in spirit) come to them to assure them their passing will be okay, and that the person dying just needs to follow their relative into the light.

An AMAZING Book: "Soul Survivor"

I just finished the most amazing book: Soul Survivor. It's the reincarnation of a World War 2 Fighter Pilot.
- It's about a little boy named James who was the fighter pilot reincarnated. ABSOLUTELY.
 - You MUST read this. I read this book and it brought tears to my eyes. This little boy at 2 years old was revealing things related to world war 2, a particular ship, and names of the pilots' friends (whom the authors found and interviewed). Not only is this Absolute proof of reincarnation, but it was validated with people who are still alive. They even brought the little boy to meet the dead pilot's elderly sister and the little boy confirmed various little things that only the woman's brother could have known.
If people around the world in many cultures can comprehend reincarnation - there's obviously been proof before. The authors/parents noted that their Christian beliefs kept causing them to doubt reincarnation, but the proof was overwhelming.
Sadly, many Christians don't realize that entire portions of the Bible that admitted reincarnation were removed from the book. It's sad that some religions make people so closed-minded. I applaud the parents in not dismissing their son's words as something he made up (which, if you read the book, you'll know that a 2,3, or 4 year old cannot possibly know about the workings of WWII planes and ships, OR the exact names of the men in a particular squadron in 1943-1945 when they're buried in history.
Read this book. It will open your mind and give you a great awareness of life and the afterlife.   It's called "Soul Survivor" by Bruce and Andrea Leininger.

Howard County HIstorical Society: Ghost Hunt: PART 4: The Preacher

Last week's blog mentioned my joining the Inspired Ghost-trackers of Odenton, Md. to investigate the Howard County Historical Museum in old Ellicott City, Md.     Read the previous blog to follow the investigation.
My friend Troy, also a medium was also on the investigation and often times we verify what the other picks up on during ghost adventures.
Churches always have a lot of emotional energy - whether over deaths, or praise. This was no different. In fact, between the emotional imprint of energies in the church and the hundreds of personal artifacts donated to the museum, it was overwhelming with energy to me.
 - It was like listening to 100 radio stations at the same time and trying to tune into what was playing on one station. Overwhelming!
 - One time I was able to "Tune in" was when I stepped on the "stage" or where the pulpit used to be. I immediately sensed a lot of residual energy (not an intelligent haunt) of a preacher that had a lot of emotional sermons there. It was so strong that he gave me a "picture" of his appearance in my mind, so I immediately jumped down off the stage and grabbed my notebook and drew his picture.
 - Although it could've been any preacher, this one was balding with glasses but had a very pronounced chin.
 - The museum curator gave me a book filled with photos of all of the preachers that ever preached at that church. There was only ONE exact match!!  Rev. Theodore (Ted) Dewitt Taylor Sr. who was the pastor from 1956 to 1962.
Here's a photo of Pastor Taylor next to the quick drawing I made of who I saw at the pulpit. Although I made the face longer, the chin juts out a little and the nose is wide.  It was his energy that remained on that stage (although he's not there anymore).

After we all went through the upstairs and downstairs of this church-turned museum we all congregated back near the old stage and altar to talk about our experiences.
Troy had investigated the basement on his own with a tape recorder.  Earlier, Ronda (from the Ghost-trackers) and I went down stairs.
Margaret and Ronda listening to our experiences
Once everyone was seated we shared experiences. Troy said that at the back of the building he sensed a matronly woman with greying hair in a bun, who was preparing meals for the church goers or just men and women. She was very concerned about getting everything right.
 - I had written down a similar experience when I was in that same area in the basement. Sometimes I can touch and object and get a sense of a person connected with it. I touched a knob on an old black stove (circa mid 1900s) and sensed a woman in a white dress or apron, in charge of preparation of meals for a large group of people. She was very meticulous and dedicated to feeding those people. She also resembled Troy's description.
-After telling our stories, the museum curator said that the basement was once a restaurant in the mid-1900s- and the kitchen was close to where the stove was now buried under boxes.
Both Troy and I also felt that this woman was residual and not an intelligent haunt. That means, she can't answer questions or interact with the living. It's just that she had so much passion for cooking for people that her energies remained behind.

ENERGY AND OBJECTS- As I mentioned previously, when we're emotionally attached to an object, our energy also attaches to it. It's like leaving an energy "thumbprint" behind that others may be able to "See" or read. That's what happened with the area of the kitchen in the basement and the stove where the woman cooked.

Howard County Historical Museum Ghost Hunt Part 2: The Tingling Chairs

Juror's chairs with a lot an residual energy

Last week's blog mentioned my joining the Inspired Ghost-trackers of Odenton, Md. to investigate the Howard County Historical Museum in old Ellicott City, Md.     Read the previous blog to follow the investigation.
When my friend Troy (also a medium) and I approached the front left corner of the room, Troy sensed a strong energy. I walked over to two identical chairs because I was drawn to them. I touched the arm of one of the chairs and felt "pins and needles" in my fingertips that spread throughout my hand. It was residual energy of anxiety and nervousness. That's when I looked at the sign on the chairs to see that they were seats for jurors in the nearby courthouse!
-It made perfect sense. Jurors, especially those debating for the life or death of a defendant would feel nervous or anxious.
Ronda also gets the "pins and needles" feeling.
Troy touched the chairs and experienced the exact same feeling. In fact, the tingling shot all the way up his arm, he told me and Ronda from the Ghost tracker group. We wanted to verify this, so we also asked Ronda to put her hand there, and she, too, experienced the pins and needles feeling in her hand.
The bottom line is that if we are experiencing a lot of emotion while holding an object, or about an object, some of our energy will be absorbed or imprinted into it.
*NEXT WEEK IN PART 3, Troy and I sense the same Female Presence
*COMING IN 2 WEEKS, IN PART 4, A former pastor enables me to draw him, and then I find a photo of him that matches!

Missed the Radio Interview on Unknown Paranormal? Hear it here!

On July 31, I was a guest of the Unknown Paranormal Radio show. The show ran from 9pm to 11pm EDT, and I talked with the hosts (one of whom is also a developing medium) about my book and my abilities.
 - We had some great conversation about energies, the difference and similarities between a ghost and spirit and much more.
NOTE: I come on about 15 minutes after the show starts. **Before that, they talk about some "housekeeping" things."
Hear it here:
SUMMARY OF THE SHOW:
Join Host Kevin Weddle, Founder of Unknown Paranormal, along with Co-Host Mike McCaskill as they discuss with guests topics of paranormal, spiritual, and the unknown and unexlained. Come join us for an in depth discussion of the paranormal world.  This week, our guest will be Rob Gutro.  Rob Gutro is a "developing medium" who is still learning how to use his abilities. He can receive messages from those who have passed either from Earth-bound ghosts or spirits who have crossed over. He wrote and published the book "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium."  Because he's a meteorologist, he tries to provide some kind of scientific explanations on the how and why ghosts and spirits exist and are able to communicate.  He always gets a headache whenver he's in the presence of a ghost or a spirit.  There is a difference, which he explains in the book.  The book also contains personal experiences on and off ghost tours in historic places.

Ghost Hunt: Howard County Historical Museum: PART 1

Welcome sign
This weekend I joined the Inspired Ghost-Tracking group of Odenton, Md. for a ghost investigation at the Howard County Historical Museum in old Ellicott City. The museum is located in an old church that sits atop a hill looking over downtown, historic Main Street. Old Ellicott City was founded in the late 1700s by the Ellicott Brothers from Pennsylvania - who opened three mills. The town, which became the site of the first passenger railway station for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, became very popular during the Civil War. It is extremely haunted because two rivers run through it, and the water energy keeps the ghosts powered up.
Inside the church part of the museum
 -  In my book "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium" (paperback, e-book, kindle), I wrote about several ghostly encounters I had in various buildings throughout the city. This was my first time in this building, far removed from the Main Street.
 - I'm breaking this down into several different blogs because there would be too much to read.
ENTRY 1: When I initially walked into the building I felt nothing. Usually I get a headache in the back of my head whenever there's a ghost or a spirit (who crossed into the light) present. I walked through the entry way and first room. When I got to the doorway on the left, that led into the small church (the room I first walked through was for a reception area outside of the worship area) I DID get a headache.
 - Because ghosts and spirits are energy, they overload the electrical impulses in my brain and give me a headache.
 - So, something was there- either residual (emotional energy attached to something) or an intelligent haunt, where ghosts can respond and answer questions. I sensed a more residual presence.
  - My friend Troy was with us, and he's also a developing medium. Often, he and I sense the same things and compare notes to later find out we met the same entity.
Troy also sensed a male presence in the back left corner of the church after walking through that doorway where I got my headache. We both felt that the energy was residual.

As we went into the church area, we also sensed a female energy and were drawn to one old wooden chair with broken spokes.
It wasn't until we got to another piece of furniture that we really got something interesting.
WATCH FOR THAT IN PART 2.

AFTERLIFE- Is there a Hell?

An  Op-Ed in USA today addressed the belief in Hell. I found it fascinating because up until the time I started being able to communicate with those who passed, I firmly believed in Hell. Once I started communicating, and understanding what happens, I realized that there really is no "place" called Hell. I'm sure that's very disconcerting for a lot of people, especially because of what the Bible says. But even in this Op-Ed, Hell is explained as a concept that is mis-understood from the Bible.
 - SO, what happens to murderers, criminals and evil people when they die? My experience is that they linger in a state outside of the light- a "phantom zone" if you will, where they receive an immediate recognition of the horrendous things they did during their lives. A place where they can spend a long time (something we wouldn't be able to comprehend) trying to atone for their sins. Hoping for forgiveness from those left behind.
Ghosts are an example of that. Ghosts are earth-bound energies that are trapped on earth for various reasons. So, why is that "Hell" being trapped out of the light? Because all of your loved ones are IN THE LIGHT.
Think about it. Being trapped as an earth-bound ghost or an energy unable to go into the light to be with all of your loved ones is torturous. Isolationism as a human being is torture, as it is for a ghost or spirit. THAT is my understanding of Hell.

FROM USA TODAY:   Should believers fear Hell — and God?

FULL STORY: http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/forum/2011-08-07-love-wins-afterlife-hell_n.htm?csp=Dailybriefing

The Egyptians, Greeks, Romans all had elaborate beliefs about the afterlife. We're no different. Right now, a book is burning through America's churches that has put the issue back front and center for many. The book —Love Wins— by Rob Bell challenges the traditional Christian belief in a place of eternal punishment. Damnation.

Most Americans still believe in hell. A 2009 poll by The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life put the number at 59%. A 2005 Fox News poll put it at 74%!
Ask these folks why they cling to such a decidedly medieval notion, and they will tell you: Because the Bible teaches it! And if we're talking about the King James Bible, they are right — at least on the surface. But dig into the languages in which the Bible was actually written — Greek and Hebrew — and things get murky.
Nowhere in the Hebrew Bible (Christian Old Testament) is the abode of the dead described as a place of eternal punishment. Rather, "Sheol" as it is sometimes called, appears as a shadowy, dreamlike place where all people — good and evil — are destined.
One Old Testament writer has this to say: "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might for there is no activity or planning or wisdom in Sheol where you are going." Not my idea of a Shangri-La, but certainly better than everlasting fire.
Even Jesus gets misquoted here. Clearly, Jesus taught that there would be a day of reckoning. In the 25th chapter of Matthew's Gospel, he paints a disturbing picture of it. "I was hungry and you didn't feed me. Naked and you didn't clothe me."
But the Greek word that is often translated "eternal" (aionos) — whether it is used to describe punishment or life — is better understood as a word of quality, not quantity. Punishment is only "eternal" (in the way that Americans understand that word) in the sense that it could be final.
Not what Jesus meant
Nearly every reference to "hell" that comes from the lips of Jesus is a mistranslation.
The word translated as hell by the King James Bible is the word "Gehenna," literally "the valley of the sons of Hinnom." This notorious valley on the south side of Jerusalem was once the site of pagan sacrifices, including child sacrifice, and had been cursed by the prophets of Israel. By Jesus' day, it served as the garbage dump. It was a foul, noxious place where dogs roamed and fires burned. Jesus seized upon this vivid imagery in his sermons. He urged people to repent (literally "change your mind"), lest they end up in Gehenna (i.e. the garbage dump).
