SUNDAY 10-18 in Danvers, Mass: Howl-o-Ween for dogs - from German Shepherd Resource and Rescue Center, Inc.

This Sunday, October 18th, the German Shepherd Resource and Rescue Center, Inc. (GSR and RC)  in Massachusetts is holding its annual (all breed) Howl-o-Ween Dog Walk and Costume Contest!    The event is at Endicott Park in Danvers, Mass (north of Boston) from 10am to 3pm.
It's all a Fundraiser to benefit the rescue and the participation fee for all dog activities is only $10 per dog. Again- it benefits the rescue!
HOW DID I GET TO KNOW THIS? In September when I was at the New England Pet Expo I talked with Stephanie, one of the rescuers and donated a copy of my book "Pets and the Afterlife" by Rob Gutro for the fundraiser. SO, if you go to the event, look for it!

Fun at Dachtoberfest! - Photos, dog costumes, and more

Our foster dog Max in the Wienermobile!
Dachtoberfest, a festival organized and managed by Coast-to-Coast Dachshund Rescue was held this past Sunday, October 11th in Middleburg, Pennsylvania. It was so much fun and full of Dachshunds of all shapes and sizes. I brought our foster dog, Max up for the event and he met some pretty wonderful people.
Rob and Max

the 2nd Super Mario Bros. brother
The event was in central Pennsylvania, east of Harrisburg (so it took 2 1/2 hours to drive there), and Max was the perfect traveling companion. Max is our 11 1/2 year old long-haired foster Dachshund. Max enjoyed his time there and posed for a photo in the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile (Thanks to rescue volunteer Manuela Fields for a great photo).  Max is adoptable (like many other dachshunds) at www.c2cdr.org.

Baltimore Ravens dog and Minnie Mouse
COSTUME EVENT - Many dogs had great outfits in the costume contest. There are many pictured on today's blog.

A Wtich and M and Ms dog!
There were a lot of vendors there informing people about Dachshunds, selling dog-related items, sketch artists, food vendors and groups like Dodgerslist, which offers education for owners and dogs suffering with back problems due to disc disease (ruptured, herniated, slipped disc, IVDD).

One of the Super Mario Bros.
Of course, since this was a weiner dog event, I had to have a hot dog for lunch- it seemed appropriate. :)

It took this muscular guy to handle 4 dachshunds!
BECOME A FOSTER PARENT OR ADOPT A DOG - Save a Life!

There are many dogs that need forever homes, and many that need FOSTER homes. PLEASE consider becoming a foster parent if you can't adopt. It will save a dog's life and take them out of kill shelters. You just provide food, shelter, and take them to the vet (and the rescue covers the vet bills). Learn more at  www.c2cdr.org.

The Queen of Halloween had her own wagon!@

PETS AND THE AFTERLIFE - I brought copies of my book to the event, but was totally focused on the dogs, the rescue and getting the dogs adopted. I spoke to several people who had experiences and messages from their pets who passed, and one pretty amazing woman whose dog's spirit nudged her to the event for a very good reason.

Nice Note from a speaking event!

In early October, I gave a talk at the Reston Regional Library in Virginia. It was well-attended and there were lots of
folks in the audience who had great questions. I received the following letter from the Librarian who organized the event, and it made my day to get it. I look forward to making a return appearance there for another talk in 2016.  - Rob
**NOTE: If you want me to Speak at your organization, contact me at  Rgutro@gmail.com. - I don't charge a fee, but ask to sell my books**

The letter:

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your willingness to share your abilities and experiences with our patrons!

Everyone who attended was  pretty much spellbound by your presentation and eager to learn more. And, several who attended found your information to be very reassuring and affirming. It is always so nice to see folks respond so personally and positively to our programs!

I would love to have you back again next spring for another program and I think there would definitely be interest in Pets and the Afterlife.

It was a pleasure meeting you and I look forward to seeing you again!
Thanks again,
Sue

Q&A: What Really is a Poltergeist?

The 1980s movie mis-identified what a poltergeist really is... and you'll be surprised to learn the truth.

Ad for the 1980s movie that mis-identified what a poltergeist is
Recently our friend Anne Marie asked questions about poltergeists. The whole concept was mis-identified so here I'll set the record straight.

Q: What is a poltergeist?

A:  A poltergeist is activity that mimics a ghost, but is caused by severe emotional energy generated by a teenager (usually a teenage girl). I have actually been on three cases with Inspired Ghost Tracking of Maryland that involved poltergeist activity that we've explained that way. Once the teenage girls got some therapy in those houses, the "ghostly" activity ceased!

Q: I was under the impression that poltergeists were intelligent hauntings as evil entities. Is that incorrect?

A:  No. Poltergeists are not intelligent haunts. They're just energy.

Ghosts can be intelligent (interactive) or residual (thumbprints or impressions that don't interact and answer questions). They can also be good or evil - all depending on their personality when they were alive.
Q: Is a poltergeist activity always caused by a teenager?

A: Poltergeist activity is always caused by a teenager or a highly emotional person - it's basically energy that mimics ghostly activity.

Q: I'm confused - So it's not a possession or an evil entity?

A true cause of poltergeist activity
A:  It's just emotional energy generated by a teenager (or highly emotional person) that causes things to resemble what a ghost could do: move objects, create a shadow figure, make noises, etc.
It's not a possession, and it's not it's own entity.
It's energy that makes things happen.
It's like turning on a lightbulb and generating heat and light.

Q: What happened on your investigations?
Learn all about Ghosts, spirits and poltergiests
A: On each of the investigations - the events happened in a teenage girl's room or in once case in the girl's sister's room. In the latter case, the teenager in the other room hated her younger sister and caused a lot of things to move in her sister's room, and caused a "dark shadow" to be seen in the closet (that backed up against her room). When we asked the mothers if these girls were all going through emotional turmoil, they all replied "yes" and in the latter case, the mother said "yes, the older, teenage sister doesn't like her younger sister."
Of course, I grew up with two brothers, so I never experienced it in my youth. :)

Q&A from Lisa: More Effective to Communicate with Spirits at Gravesite?

Recently I received the following question from Lisa and thought I would share the answer with you as you likely have the same (or similar questions)

Q: Do you believe attempting to contact our deseased loved ones is more effective at their gravesite? Thanks in advance for your answer...

A: It can be only because there  is residual energy in the physical remains and your energy (love, hope) would empower them. However you can really call them anywhere at any time.

*LOOKING FOR MORE ANSWERS?* For answers about many questions you may have about ghosts, spirits or the afterlife, check out my book "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead." I wrote the book to answer all questions on the paranormal, and used personal experiences or shared stories to convey answers to questions and provide proof.
