Signs from the Heart- From the Spirit of Jacob the Sheltie

The following email came to me and has been reprinted with permission, to help other grieving pet owners understand how their dogs (and cats) can communicate from the other side.  I thought it PERFECT for a Valentine's Day posting -because Jacob the Sheltie was and still is a huge part of his mom and dad's hearts. - Rob

Sir Jacob of Penn's Wood March 11, 2008 - January 22, 2015

Dear Rob-
I am not sure where I stand in terms of believing what you wrote. Normally I would be very skeptical. In any event, I wanted to share our current situation.

Last week, 1/22/2015, we lost our Jacob. Jacob was a Sheltie and he died about 2 months before his seventh birthday. Jacob had lymphoma and despite every effort including chemo he lost his fight.

Jacob was my "baby". While I always liked dogs, they were pets. Jacob was the first animal that I completely gave my heart to. He came at a time in my life when I did not have much to live for. He gave my live meaning.

Jacob was born on an Amish farm in Lancaster county. He did not care much for horses and buggies and he would bark like mad when ever we passed one on the street. It was a game my wife and I would play with him pointing out all the buggies.

When Jacob passed I stopped eating and drinking. I went for three days with noting to eat or drink. The average human can survive three to five days without drinking. This was going to be my exit. Near the close of the third day my wife and I were sitting at a convenience store near our home getting gas. I have to say we live some distance from Lancaster and do not see horses and buggies where we live. After talking I decided to drink something. We had a bottle of water in the car that was for Jacob when we went somewhere. I drank some of the water ending my attempt at a passive suicide. At that moment a truck pulling a trailer passed in front of us. On this trailer was an Amish buggy. As I said, we just don't see buggies where we live. My wife and I broke down at first but then we considered the possibility that it was a message from Jacob. (All this happened before getting your book.)

Last night my wife was in a doctor's office waiting reading your book. A song came on "I can't Live without you." My wife, having just read where you talk about music, said "OK Jacob if that's you and if you're OK and someone is there taking care of you please send me a sign." The song ended and was followed by the song "The wind beneath my Wings." This is perhaps my wife's favorite song and holds very special significance for her since her father passed many years ago as it was his favorite song. The interpretation of this could mean that Jacob is OK and her dad is there with him.

Again, I don't know if I believe or not, but I have to say that I would like to. Believing would make life just a little more bearable.  Bill D.

My response to Bill: Those were amazing signs from him. Spirits lead us to places where we will see things that we'll associate with them, just as he enabled you to see the buggy (that drove him crazy). Perfect sign. 
   The musical signs are also great messages. The first song was directed to you, and the second song was the answer to your wife's request to prove the messages were from him. He's very strong, and will be around you from time to time.
  He doesn't want you to grieve, but instead wants you to know how much he appreciated you both saving him from a life of hardship on the Amish farm. He knows how much you did for him to try and heal him, and for that he is eternally grateful.
  You gave him more love in a day than he experienced in his life before you adopted him. That love binds you all together forever. I know the feeling with our two dogs who have passed and provide us signs from time to time.

Q&A: What Makes Ouija Boards Doors to Negative Energies?

Over the next 5 weeks, every Tuesday, I'll be featuring a question that I received via email, and my response. 

1. What makes Ouija boards doors to negative energies?  Ouija boards can open doors and bring positive spirits in, but it can also bring in nasty entities. Think of a Ouija board as being your front door of your home. You stand at the door and shout "Come on in!" and anyone and everyone can come in without you seeing them. Just as evil people would break into your home, you're inviting their ghosts in, too.

1a  Can protective words be said before using one regarding only letting positive energies to come through or something?   A user can offer prayers of protection around themselves, but again, it's like physical people coming into your house that you can't fight off all at once. 

A Mom's Spirit Comes Through for a Best Friend

Back in October 2013, I attended a book festival in central Pennsylvania. Before I did, however, I corresponded with Lynn, who organized the event. She said at the end of her email: "Thank you, Rob, for agreeing to be a part of our festival.  (I expect a free reading—or tell my mom to show up anyway!  Haha)"

    After I received her email, I got a message from a woman whom that I thought was her mom- it was definitely an older woman, so I assumed it was her mom. So, I wrote the following in an email to Lynn:

   Your mom showed me a white dress with blue flowers on it, and said it was important - to her or you. She also said "didn't I talk enough when I was alive?"  She's got quite the sense of humor.. like a sarcastic wit.  She said that you've "done her proud." I can see her smiling at you. :)

- Do you know anything about a clock or watch stopping at a certain time?  It's connected to your mom.

Let me know if any of these make sense!

Lynn wrote me back and determined exactly who the older woman's spirit was and who the message was for:

Rob:  Believe this or not, but I don’t think what you saw is for me.  I believe it is for my best friend, Sher.  Some of what you said can be attributed to my mom—but I am positive it is not my mom.

    When I was on my way to work this morning I was thinking about this.  And then it hit me, POW, I wonder if this is Sher’s mom.  Just then, no kidding, my phone rang.  I couldn’t find my phone, but when I got a chance to see who called—it was Sher!!

   I called her and she said immediately that she had a favorite white dress with blue embroidered flowers.  She loved it.  Also, when her mother died, the clock in their house stopped.  She also had a great wit—and I think Sher needs to hear that her mom is proud of her for many, many reasons.

   As much as I would like to have a message from my mom (she’s probably got no time for that stuff—she’s playing bridge or commiserating over the Steelers and the Pirates)—I truly believe since Sher and I are so closely connected, that it is for her.  And I am thrilled!

Spirits urge us to do things... which is WHY Sher called Lynn after I gave you that message.

DOGS REALLY DO LISTEN TO US

  When we listen to someone talking, we hear some sounds that combine to make words and other sounds that convey such things as the speaker’s emotions and gender. The left hemisphere of our brain manages the first task, while the right hemisphere specializes in the second. Dogs also have this kind of hemispheric bias when listening to the sounds of other dogs. But do they have it with human sounds? To find out, two scientists had dogs sit facing two speakers. The researchers then played a recorded short sentence—“Come on, then”—and watched which way the dogs turned. When the animals heard recordings in which individual words were strongly emphasized, they turned to the right—indicating that their left hemispheres were engaged. But when they listened to recordings that had exaggerated intonations, they turned to the left—a sign that the right hemisphere was responding. Thus, dogs seem to process the elements of speech very similarly to the way humans do, the scientists report online today in Current Biology. According to the researchers, the findings support the idea that our canine pals are indeed paying close attention not only to who we are and how we say things, but also to what we say.

Winter Continues for 6 Weeks No Matter What the Groundhog Says

Since I'm a meteorologist, I thought I'd address Groundhog's Day (although it has nothing to do with ghosts and spirits). 

   Officials in Punxsatawney, PA said the groundhog saw his shadow indicating 6 more weeks of winter. **Well, astronomical spring begins March 20, which is about about 6 1/2 weeks away anyway. So, there's no difference in the rodent's prediction of seeing 6 more weeks of winter from reality.  
   Just count on winter for 6 more weeks, whether listening to the groundhog, or following the seasons and Earth's tilt.
