2 Meteorologists and Ghost Hunters! Check this FL Group

Brian McNoldy
Those who know me, know that I'm a meteorologist in my career. Until now, I haven't run into another meteorologist who also investigates hauntings.
Recently I had the good fortune to "meet" Brian McNoldy, another meteorologist who is also a "ghost hunter/tracker" and he co-manages a group in south Florida called The Haunted Investigations Team or H.I.T.
H.I.T. was established in 2008 in northern Colorado. Along with the original branch in Fort Collins CO, the team has grown a new branch in Miami Fl.  their goal is to help people with claims of ghosts, haunted houses, or other paranormal activity.  WEBSITE: hauntinginvestigations.org

WHAT WE DO
ABOUT THE GROUP:
We provide a free service to the public to investigate, document, and address any suspected or undesired paranormal activity in a residence, business, or outdoor area. We use a scientific and skeptical approach, since the majority of paranormal claims have very normal explanations.  We are professional, discreet, and confidential.
HOW WE DO IT
We use various recording devices and meters to find suspicious areas, debunk paranormal claims, or document legitimate paranormal activity. The devices include thermometers, Electro-Magnetic Field (EMF) detectors, digital voice and video recorders, digital cameras, and webcams... combined with our own experiences.

The Website has profiles of each member, and gives great definitions: http://hauntinginvestigations.org/hit_site_004.htm

Moving out of a Haunted House? Some Suggestions

This was one of my most popular posts, so I'm reprinting it! - Let me know if you lived in a haunted house... (I did in 1996-97 in Kentucky).

Moving out of a Haunted House? Here are some suggestions.
Recently I responded to the following question: We are moving out of a house that we know has a ghost in it. How do we make sure nothing follows us? What should we do?
Margaret, manager of Inspired Ghost Trackers of Maryland, gave this good advice:  I don't think will follow you, but just to be on the safe side make sure you tell them that they can't follow you and they are not welcome to go. They must stay where they are. And, of course if they do follow you then you know who to call!
Credit: http://www.gallopade.com/client/client_pages/MysteryPhotoContestGI.cfm
  Here are my suggestions:
Typically ghosts stay at a place comfortable and familiar to them.
*Tell them not to follow you, and stay put, or better yet, tell them to move into the light.
*Put sea salt just outside the. front door to block them from leaving.
*Picture yourself surrounded by white light and positive energy to act as a block to a ghost's negative energy.
*Finally, think positive thoughts when departing. Ghosts feed off negative energy, so don't give them anything to cling to.

How About a Spirited Ghost Tour of Historic Federal Hill? (Baltimore)

This week's blog is about a NEW GHOST WALK in Baltimore that I had a good part in developing with the Inspired Ghost Trackers. Basically, two of the team, Margaret and Ronda (our resident historian) were joined by Barry from the great Scarborough Fair B&B and me, to talk around and see what ghosts I encountered. Margaret and Ronda used scientific equipment and digital recorders to get confirmations, and Ronda verified deaths of people in places where I found ghosts.
Federal Hill, Baltimore has ghosts from the 1700s, 1800s, 1900s and 2000s- and I found some from each period, doing different jobs. It was quite an experience.  NOW- you can share in the experience and get tickets to hear the stories and experience the hauntings for yourself.
I'll be on several of the tours, but Margaret and Ronda will be hosting most of them- and they've been investigating hauntings for a long time, and have great senses of humor, so it'll be fun and interesting. Hope you can join us. - More info about the tours follow in the story below from Main Street Federal Hill.
Happy Hauntings!   Rob
How About a Spirited Ghost Tour of Historic Federal Hill?
With Halloween just around the corner, there are new “spooky” attractions popping up all over town.  This year, we recommend checking out the new Historic Federal Hill Ghost Tour, guaranteed to give you an unforgettable experience of this historic community.
Barry Werner, co-owner of Scarborough Fair Bed & Breakfast (801 S. Charles St.), has teamed up with Inspired Ghost Tracking, a paranormal investigation group based in Jessup, MD, to provide the most diverse haunted tour in the area. “Science, technology, spirituality, and legend” are combined together to give participants a unique perspective as they walk through the streets of Federal Hill.
Rob Gutro, a medium, along with Inspired Ghost Tracking, conducted research throughout the neighborhood before the tour was developed. For example, they verified a spirit residing in The Book Escape (805 Light Street). So who knows? Maybe you’ll be the next to discover a spirit. Actually, encountering a spirit could be easier than you think! As Barry says, “This community is infused with as much history as it is with spirits of the dead.”
The tour lasts about an hour and is offered on Saturdays at 6 pm and 8:30 pm.  There is a 15-person limit per tour, so buy your tickets today!
For tickets, visit http://federalhillghosttour.ticketleap.com.

Cases of Ghosts Affecting Children

I'm one of the mediums in the Inspired Ghost Tracking group. Since I joined the group a couple of years ago, I've been on several home investigations. Each one is different, and it's always unsettling whenever an earth-bound ghost is bothering children.

Inspired Ghost Tracking is dedicated to investigate, document and provide help and intervention with paranormal and supernatural phenomena to clients in need. Inspired operates in Maryland and service surrounding communities within our areas of operation.
Recently I went on an investigation where two children kept seeing a figure (it was a male ghost). Children have the ability to  see,  hear and sense ghosts., where adults have lost the ability. WHY?  Because a child's logical thinking has not developed.
As a child, we have not yet learned to try and explain everything by "normal means," - that is, try to provide a logical explanation for everything that happens in the physical world. As we grow older and are educated in math, physics, science, etc. we look for logical explanations for things that happen in the atmosphere, or noises made - like tree branches rustling in the wind, or houses settling, or steam coming out of heat vents on cold days.
Children don't look for those explanations, so their open minds see ghosts and spirits more easily, because they don't immediately discount them. -
So, whenever a ghost is bothering a child, and adult really must pay attention and ask the child questions. Ask: Is it a man or woman? Is it a boy or girl? What is their name? What do they say? What do they look like? Did they live here? Why are they  talking with you? When do they come to you? * Remind a child that a ghost was once a living, breathing person and are likely looking for help to move to another place and be with their relatives.
If the child is scared, then go easy with the questioning and learn as much as you can. Then, call a group like Inspired Ghost Tracking to investigate, confirm and help cross the ghost over.
These were taken at a woman's house in North Carolina. They moved into an old farm house and when the woman who bought the house entered, she got a heavy uneasy feeling. She has seen and heard things in the home. This photo was taken during a birthday party for her oldest son. She couldn't believe what she saw in them. Her grandaughter seems to be looking at a ghost. My Investigation on the Streets of Baltimore

One of the cool things I do is investigate places that may be haunted. Yesterday, I joined Margaret and Ronda of Inspired Ghost Tracking (the group I belong to) and Barry, who is a co-owner of a great Scarborough Fair Bed and Breakfast in Baltimore, to walk the streets of the Federal Hill neighborhood and see what kinds of ghostly activity I could pick up.

Rob tells Barry and Ronda about a murder that happened on this spot.
I've been to Federal Hill many times, and have never sensed anything, usually because I was paying attention to the people I was with or the event I attended. This time my focus was tuning in to the energy and events of the past.
I honestly didn't expect much, but walked away with about 12 different entities all with distinctly different stories. Most of them were outside, because we didn't go inside buildings -  which is somewhat unusual, because ghosts usually linger in places they were familiar with, unless they died outside, as several people did, and still lingered.
CONFIRMATIONS:   I'm not going to give any details here, but I will say that I was able to confirm several of them!  In one case on a certain street I sensed an accident (long ago) and identified the type of person killed and how- and Ronda, the group historian, said she had read about that very accident in her research!   In one of the places, now a bar and eatery I sensed a shadow man and it was confirmed by the bartenders.
WHO WERE THESE GHOSTS?  I received messages from dead people from all walks of life: a politician, warehouse worker, rum-runner from Prohibition, a prostitute, banker and more. I was able to sketch several of them out, too.
In short, this event was very much like my experience in England - there were a lot of ghosts around. I just had to tune in an pay attention. Eventually, all of these stories, once proven by Ronda as she continues to search through historic records, will be published or put into a tour (Which is why I can't disclose any details now) . I'll keep you posted.

Who made the First EVPs?

Margaret and Ronda of Inspired Ghost Trackers asking questions on digital recorder
According to Wikipedia, "Electronic voice phenomena (EVP) are electronically generated noises that resemble speech, but are supposedly not the result of intentional voice recordings or renderings. Common sources of EVP include static, stray radio transmissions, and background noise. Recordings of EVP are often created from background sound by increasing the gain (i.e. sensitivity) of the recording equipment.
So, who made the first recordings of ghosts or spirits? According to George Noory's book Talking to the Dead, it was Waldemar Borogas in 1901. He was exiled to Siberia and used a Thomas Edison phonograph during a session he was beating drums. Between the drumbeats he heard disembodied voices!
Working with the Inspired Ghost Trackers, we've recorded several of them, including one from the Book Escape in Baltimore where we investigated. At the time we got the EVP, I thought I heard a man's voice briefly. When we listened to the digital recording later right after I thought I heard the sound, we all heard "Go away!"
Pictured here are Margaret and Ronda of Inspired Ghost Trackers asking questions during an EVP session. The hardest part is listening back to the recording to see if anything or anyone speaks up!

Thomas Edison and Contacting the Dead

I've been reading George Noory's book "Talking to the Dead." George is well known for being the host of the amazing and widely syndicated radio show "Coast to Coast AM." I was honored to be his guest recently and really enjoying talking with him.
 - George's book talks about the history of EVPs, and obtaining audio from ghosts and spirits. One of the things that piqued my interest was his discussion of Thomas Edison. He said that Edison said several times that he may have thought communicating with the dead was possible. At one point, Edison said "There is a doubt. I am not sure. That's the reason I am experimenting. But if I didn't believe, I wouldn't try."  Noory said that if Edison tried to work on a prototype, none was found when he died.
Thomas Edison
  Ghostvillage.com wrote an arhttp://www.ghostvillage.com/ghostcommunity/index.php?showtopic=19802ticle about Edison's communications:
Noory's book is filled with many people who tried creating "telephones" to talk with the dead, including an inventor in Scotland who put a telephonic apparatus to the throat of mediums in order to "hear spirit voices" coming from within the medium. That invention came about in the late nineteenth century.
Interesting stuff- and check out George Noory's book "Talking to the Dead" for more info on trying to obtain electronic recordings and EVPs.
